[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Mostly non-latin body, mostly non-latin title (162): DQIAODI ผลิตภัณฑ์นี้ออกแบบมาเพื่อ by Patcharanun on electronics.SE

@lyxal why tp?

Because if you read the title, you'll see that it actually isn't spam
they bolded the "later" they are questioning

on DQIAODI ผลิตภัณฑ์นี้ออกแบบมาเพื่อ?
i asked why tp>spam, not fp>spam. :P

Body: Women's accessories There is information to state that WENZHOU JIUTIAN ELECTRONIC & ELECTRICITY CO, LTD 227 IEC 52 (RVV) 300 / 300V 2x0.5mm, everything is different, the label and no product information was found.

(auto-translated, to be fair)

even if google translate is not that accurate
i don't think it could mess up that badly

But, while a bit weird, it doesn't seem to be spam.

I dunno, though. Deferring to others on that one.

12:05 AM
maybe? it looks like it to me based on said translation

Hm, actually. That "WEBZHOU JIUTIAN ELECTRONIC & ELECTRICITY CO, LTD" part seems somewhat promotional but... I dunno?

it doesn't ask a question, and granted it doesn't have a link, but i'm leaning towards it being promotional over a legit question formatted badly and in the wrong language

Nope.

oh.
It's probably because the SSL certificate expires today

2:21 AM
Last ping from each instance is over 5 minutes ago, and IIRC they're supposed to ping every minute.
@lyxal Oh, good catch...specifically, because it expired 5 minutes ago.

So while it's getting renewed, does that mean that feedback needs to be given through chat replies?

@ArtOfCode you around by any chance? Looks like the MS SSL cert needs to be renewed.
@lyxal Unfortunately, it won't go anywhere if given through chat, since the SD instances can't communicate with metasmoke. You'll still be able to blacklist users with tpu- and such, though.

So will sending feedback through FIRE still work? I assume not since it's sending it through MS, but still.

If your browser trusts MS (mine currently does) it should work
Apparently I added a security exception for MS at some point

I can send feedback by clicking on MS directly. FIRE isn't working :|
Apparently it can't find the MS report (which makes sense, I guess).

Ah, yeah, it'll only work on posts where there's an MS report, but I just checked and I can send feedback with FIRE (probably because I've added that security exception)
Also CC @Undo as a long shot (MS is down due to expired SSL cert)

2:32 AM
Who has access to the SSL cert? (i.e. who can renew it?)

Definitely Thomas Ward, probably Undo and ArtOfCode, and maaaaybe other people?

@ThomasWard It looks like the certificate for MS has expired.

dang, was hoping a manual report would work...but no, apparently that also requires the SD-MS connection to work (which makes sense)...though it's interesting that it can trigger the SD report despite the API hit being to MS.
Is Thomas the only one with the required access to fix the cert?
As a temporary workaround if no one with the necessary MS access can be reached, you could always disable SSL verification on the MS API calls in SD.

The point of SSL verification is to securely send data across (IIRC), but does disabling that fix anything? The point of the verification is to make it secure. Would that reestablish the connection with MS (allowing for in-chat feedback and FIRE)?

Yes (though you'd also have to add exceptions locally to make FIRE work)
Basically, it would make SD's connections to MS stop failing.

@RyanM Yes, I know. It's what we did the last time this happened. I had to look for the code.

2:55 AM
@Makyen Ah, nice, didn't know this had happened previously ^^; I figured you'd know that that would work, but figured I'd suggest in case it hadn't popped into your head (it certainly didn't pop into mine at first). Glad you're a step ahead :-)

Yeah, mostly. We'll probably have issues with adding/removing watchlist and blacklist entries.
@RyanM Same here. I just read one of the head commits on my own instance, but didn't notice that other one wasn't the same.

Do you want to handle the backfill? Shouldn't be more than a handful of posts.
Also should I avoid attempting to mess with the watch/blacklists, or should I try and see what happens?

(fixed!) The MS SSL certificate expired. If you want to view MS pages and use userscripts, you'll need to have an exception in your browser for the expired certificate.
@RyanM You can try and see what happens. It may work. I would need to look in the code, but trying it is faster.

@SmokeDetector tpu- Site is poor quality and doesn't really mention iOS or Android, which makes me suspect this is spam, along with it being an unregistered new user and a basically content-free post.
@Makyen Personally my most anticipated WIP is your version of FIRE 🙃 (I am curious: is the blocker for release mostly cleanup, or have you done special things for yourself that would need to be separated out for others?)

3:42 AM
@RyanM If I don't respond in a short period to something that's urgent like this, feel free to cause the ping to sound more than once for me. I could have responded sooner, but was concentrating on something else and didn't really pay attention to the ping. For example, you could @-ping and edit the message a few times. Alternately, you can try to contact me on Keybase, which will get me in some circumstances where I won't have gotten a chat ping.

Will do. Gotta set up Keybase one of these days...
@SmokeDetector also new user popped up with a very detailed suggested edit... stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/28955049

@RyanM It's all of the above, and there's some things which aren't quite ready yet (which I haven't intended to release yet). Basically, the version I use and the release version diverged significantly (white indicates lines that are the same; some of those differences are just spacing, due to dependency changes, but not all that much as a percentage).
I need to, again, go through and pick out a subset of the things that are stable, which is most/all of the things I've mentioned as being in there (i.e. I've try not to talk about things that aren't ready as if they are, or even really mention them, other than, perhaps saying that it's in a "working on it" state).
There's also some dependency updates (already previously handled) for all of the userscripts.
I've actually done most of the work to get to the point of being able to release, twice now, but then gotten pulled onto things people have felt are more important.
My intent is that there will be more than one release. I've intended to get some of the more stable/older/important changes released and then look at it again, which should result in a task-load that's a bit easier to handle.
