@Das_Geek From your earlier comments, you've already read much of the following, but just to be thorough the following is what I usually say to people joining:
I've added you to the privilege list for SD. You should run the command !!/amiprivileged to verify. It would be a good idea to read through the Feedback Guidance, SmokeDetector wiki, and SmokeDetector commands (in particular feedback).
You may also want to look at the userscripts we have available (GitHub), as they can be quite helpful depending on how you want to participate. For feedback & viewing in chat, I find FIRE and AIM to be the ones I use the most.
Just so you know, we normally tell people when they are getting privileges that we practice the "ton of bricks" discipline method here: If you mess-up sufficiently, or consistently, we come down like a ton of bricks :-).

Thank you, I now have access.

I appreciate the info as well, I hadn't looked into AIM at all.
Hopefully I don't mess up; I think my only confusion is about the one-letter aliases for commands. The letter mapping don't make sense imo :p
At least, i haven't wrapped my head around them yet
That's why i chose to use FIRE, to avoid mis-typing something

7:11 PM
TL;DR: ton-of-bricks is mostly to say that we almost never need to enforce things because things enforce themselves through having a good community here. If it gets to the point that someone's enforcing something, something's gone badly wrong.

@Das_Geek Messups are expected/normal, and are rarely a problem. We're all human. We all make mistakes. It really only becomes an issue when someone doesn't learn from their mistakes. IMO, it's more important how you deal with having made a mistake than it is that you make no mistakes (with some rare and situational exceptions, mostly covering situations where the mistake has irreversible consequences, none of which apply to this project).

Of course, tho I will try my best not to make any :)

I think only 2 or 3 people have ever had their privs removed
And those people were consistently getting things wrong

Well as long as there's consistent documentation for how to handle an issue, I should be good (albeit slow). Thankfully there are so many meta posts about basically everything I could ever come across
Also, you can count my vote towards this new FAIM project

7:32 PM
this is basically the last room on the network safe from that drama - I'm not having it here

@Das_Geek If there are autoflags, then the flag symbol that AIM provides will link to the post's /flag_logs page. The /flag_logs page currently shows only autoflags, or the attempt to raise autoflags (i.e. when doing so fails). It does not show manual flags. However, the record of manual flags raised through metasmoke (e.g. either from MS pages or FIRE) is public. The manual flagging data is available from the MS API.

Yeah, it's a scary privilege. More power to you for putting in the effort
Question on this report, specifically on what constitutes "excessive" under the reporting guidelines. Clearly the user doesn't post a lot, and he does disclose his affiliation, but all-but-one of his posts include a link to his tool.
I would imagine their activity is harmless enough to be non-actionable, but I wanted to confirm

@Das_Geek good spot. Not a very frequent poster, as you say - I'll poke one of the mods in the TL

@Das_Geek There are various meta posts (links in a bit) and the help center's promotion page. Overall, it depends on the perceived reason that the user is here and if they are providing good content. Basically, SE wants users who are providing good questions and answers, but doesn't really want users to be here primarily to promote their own product/service/etc. In a case like this, I'd raise a custom mod-flag explaining the situation and allow the site mods to make the decision.
Fortunately, @ArtOfCode, as a moderator, has access to the Teachers' Lounge, a chat room for moderators, and can communicate directly with the mods for the site.

I poked 'em - might get lost in the chaos in there at the moment, but they'll get an inbox notification for it
...and right as I say that I get a response. They're on it :)

The TL?
ah
right
Thanks for the links @Makyen

@Das_Geek np. I'm happy to help. The "What is the exact definition of "spam" for Stack Overflow?" post is for Stack Overflow only, but the others apply network wide. However, there will be some dissenting views from some moderators.
That brings up an issue which I should include in the text I send to new users: We have a policy which is: "Please don't comment on posts Smokey reports unless you're familiar with the site." Basically, if it's on a site you are not familiar with, and it's something where you feel it might be appropriate to handle in a way other than just a spam, R/A, NAA, VLQ flag, then it's best to custom mod-flag, explain and leave it to the site's mods.
The most common thing I do that for is self-promotion (often undisclosed affiliation). IMO, if it's only one or two times that the person has not disclosed their affiliation, then it's better to inform them of the policy requiring disclosure and allow them to edit in disclosure (this assumes that the question/answer is otherwise good). On site's I'm familiar with, I'll usually leave a comment and schedule a revisit to check if the user has edited. On sites I'm not familiar with, custom mod-flag.

Good to know. I also prefer to comment and give the poster a chance where possible. It's one of the reasons I love the bots; they can track flagged posts and let me know if there's a potential to withdraw the flag.

@Makyen That pattern looks like it's already caught by Pattern-matching website in answer, Pattern-matching website in body, Bad keyword in answer, and Bad keyword in body; append -force if you really want to do that.
