So here I am, pinging someone :)

!!/whois admin

@Machavity I am aware of 7 admins. Currently in this room: ArtOfCode, tripleee, Makyen, thesecretmaster. Not currently in this room: Andy, angussidney, Undo.

@vidarlo One of those folks can help you ^

hmmm

6:32 PM
@Machavity thanks :)
@ArtOfCode ping regarding activation :)

nah
admins are sleeping now
:)

only @Makyen and Andy were last seen some mins ago

@double-beep They'll hopefully wake up again :)

What's up?

So here I am, pinging someone :)

Yeah, I'm reading. Now I have to figure out what I need to do. Give me a moment.
@vidarlo You now have the flager role.

@Makyen thanks :)

@vidarlo np. I'm happy to do it. Did that get you to what you were wanting to do? Basically, there are a number of different Privileges for both metasmoke and Smoke Detector. If you have not done so yet, I'd suggest reading through the SmokeDetector wiki for more information.

@Makyen have a problem with confirming write access.

@vidarlo What are you trying to do?

@vidarlo It's worth running !!/amiprivileged to make sure Smokey got it. Sometimes he doesn't

!!/amiprivileged

@vidarlo ╳ You are not a privileged user. Please see the privileges wiki page for information on what privileges are and what is expected of privileged users.

@Machavity SD is separate. Unless someone has changed SD, then it hasn't happened yet.

Ah

6:46 PM
@Makyen takes me to SE to authenticate, asks for permissions, then dumps me back to charcoal, and asks me for my current password to store settings. If I try the SE password it does not work.

@vidarlo I suspect that what you need is the reviewer role, but what I was asking was the overall actions that you are wanting to do. Are you wanting only set up autoflagging? Are you wanting to be giving feedback to Smoke Detector through chat? Are you wanting to give feedback to metasmoke through the API or through reviews?

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in body (1): How does the TFX warm-start work in depth? ✏️ by Kalin Dumitrescu on stackoverflow.com

@Makyen primarily autoflagging, but I'm willing to give feedback as well, as I get to know it better :)

flagger role must be enough?

@double-beep from what I could read on the page linked about permissions, yes :)

6:50 PM
BTW, did you login via SE or manually setting a username and a password
?

login via SE

@vidarlo OK. The "flagger" role should be sufficient for activating autoflagging. We're happy to have you giving feedback too, if you want to. If so, you should read the Feedback Guidance.

@Makyen give me some time to get acquainted with the system :)

@vidarlo np. We're happy to do that.

@SmokeDetector f Top link is dead so just close it

6:54 PM
@vidarlo I'm going to have to try this with a test account, to try to see what is happening.

hi I'm new here

!!/welcome

@Machavity Welcome to Charcoal HQ! I'm SmokeDetector, a bot that detects spam and offensive posts on the network, and posts alerts to chat. You can find more about me on the Charcoal website.

Welcome @BobWhite!

@Makyen Thanks :)

:P thanks

New metasmoke user 'Maktest' created

@Makyen There's a bug around adding write access... I forget what it is or how to work around it, but it exists and I think this is it.

@Makyen I wanna say it errored out for me too, but it did its thing anyways

Preeety sure it's my fault too

Sorry, delayed. UPS alarm when off in a different room/system.
^ UPS looks OK.

6:59 PM
@Machavity lacks a min-reprex MCVE?

@vidarlo Did it tell you that you were logged in to metasmoke at all?

@double-beep That would work too

@SmokeDetector welcome to our community Maktest! All the best! Did Makyen invite you? Are you really your best friend? :)
@thesecretmaster wasn't fixed?

@double-beep Might've been, but I don't think so

@thesecretmaster My test account claims "Your registration was completed sucessfully!" on metasmoke when I register for write access.

7:02 PM
@Makyen yes, it tells me I am logged in

@Makyen Yeah, it's possible to do, but I think there are two ways to do it and one doesn't work.

@Makyen it says so for me, but then shows the same 'enable write access' again

@vidarlo Yeah, that's confusing. It says that for everyone, regardless of status.

@Makyen Ah!
sorry for the fuzz :)

that's what happened to me, too

7:04 PM
@vidarlo When you go here, what does it say in the box for "flagging & you"?

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in answer (1): Schema.org and SEO by Rich on webmasters.SE

@Makyen 0 flags used :)

@vidarlo it seems that it is working, then

@Makyen at https://metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/authentication/status I get "You need to be write-authenticated before you can set up flagging.
"

@double-beep related: github.com/Charcoal-SE/metasmoke/commit/… (cc @thesecretmaster)

7:06 PM
@vidarlo OK. You're good to configure it. You should set up preferences and see if you want to edit/add/change your conditions.
@vidarlo Ignore that. It says that for everyone.

@Makyen ok... :)

@vidarlo see if there is a "(you have already authenticated)"

@double-beep there is :)

so, you don't need to do it again, right?

^ The "(you have already authenticated)" is small and not very noticeable.

7:08 PM
hehe...

put it in <h1>

UX.SE... :)

@Makyen github.com/Charcoal-SE/metasmoke/blob/… it has just a poor <p> only
:)

@double-beep The title on that page is an <h3>, so an <h1> would be a bit extreme. However, I agree that it should be much more noticeable.

I was joking
but p isn't suitable IMO

7:13 PM
I really think MS needs a full redesign at some point. Not that anyone has time to do that or that it'll actually happen, but it'd be really nice. Things have gotten so big and spread out...

@double-beep Well, neither is the text-muted class.

yes

@thesecretmaster as in architecture or as in CSS?

@ArtOfCode Mostly architecture. CSS looks pretty fine in most places.

yeah, CSS is cool
@Makyen ok, removing the text-muted class and add the text inside a <strong> must be enough for it to be noticeable
speaking of it, text-muted is also applied to stuff in the search page (regex and invert). Since Title, Body, Username, Why and Post type are bold, removing it might make sense

@double-beep I looked at several different ways to format it. IMO, given that the page looks very similar to the one that is initially asking you to authenticate, and that we've repeatedly had confusion on this issue, I felt that it was important to make it something that very clearly stood out. However, I'm certainly open to other formatting.

@SmokeDetector IMO, it would be reasonable for this to be NAA. The text really isn't sufficient to be an answer to the questions asked, but does, very minimally, answer the question in the title. I've had a couple of declined NAA flags on this site where my opinion was that an answer was NAA, so I'm a bit hesitant to flag as NAA on Electrical Engineering.
