Hi guys. Not a regular here, but I think I have an easily implementable idea to track some homework dumps.
I think that creating a bot which would test if first question word is "write" would have great results for homework dumps. Seriously.
A lot of clowns copy the teacher assignment without any modification, and it often starts by "write a function which does ...".
I can even provide the regex if you want :)
Well, I'm sure you can sort that out...
okay: "^write\b", case insensitive.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in answer (1): React set Hook from function call outside Component ✏️ by Tom Finney on stackoverflow.com

@Jean-FrançoisFabre well, checking all questions containing the word 'write' somewhere is not enough. There must be some other words that should be also checked.

I mean: starts with "write". Noone starts their questions with write except homework dumpers.

@Jean-FrançoisFabre I didn't mean that it will detect all posts containing the word 'write'.

@Jean-FrançoisFabre the only issue here is that it deviates from Charcoal's mission
Our primary mission is to catch and eliminate spam, and we catch NAA and R/A as a side effect of that
Others may say differently though
Would be quite easy to spin up a separate Smokey to do it, but then you might as well use Natty for that

4:57 PM
My idea would require some real data testing though. And unfortunately (or not) most HW questions are manually closed & deleted so bye bye search. Except for the current ones.
But I've seen dozens of those "write" questions.
Well, you're the bot experts. I'm just a passer-by. Food for thought.
Since I've seen "The Terminator", I just refuse to code a bot.

Sobotics are actually more the experts
Here we're just (in the main) people that sift through data that a single bot chucks at us

Barghav has been pinged about this (by you :)). I guess we'll get some answers. Thanks for replying.

No problem - sorry if it sounds like I was squashing your idea, I think it's a good one. We're just probably not the people to execute it as 99% of what we do is network-wide and related to spam

@ArtOfCode Any chance you have that code snippet for that graph anywhere?

I have a lotta code snippets and a lotta graphs... which one ya want? :P

Y'know, that one that I said I'd use ~2 months ago?

...um

For path timings?

Example format? That one?

def moving_avg(pts)
  yv = pts.map(&:last)
  ad = yv.map.with_index { |v, i| yv[([0, i-3].max)..([i+3, yv.size].min)].sum / (([0, i-3].max)..([i+3, yv.size].min)).size.to_f }
  pts.map.with_index { |e, i| [e[0], ad[i]] }
end
That one, thanks.

Ah, cool

11:29 PM
Do you remember what it did? I can just throw data in into it and js will make graphs?

no, that just takes in [[x0, y0], [x1, y1], ...] and returns the same format, but with a moving average applied to the y values
then you throw that into the data key in that example format I linked, return that as JSON from a route, and you can point a graph at that route

Ok, so I could throw in a bunch of [[timstamp, timeing]] pairs and it's smooth them out so they can be graphed nicely?

yup

Perfect
By the way, I'm not going to do it, but /reasons really should move to reasons_controller
(not asking you to either, just complaining)

aye

 => [[0, 2.5], [1, 3.0], [2, 3.5], [3, 4.0], [4, 5.0], [5, 6.0], [6, 7.0], [7, 6.428571428571429], [8, 6.666666666666667], [9, 6.8]]

@ArtOfCode Any way to make the x axis go from unix timestamp to date?

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in answer (1): How to track down the recent unfollowers on Twitter by John on webapps.SE

um... give it a date not a unix timestamp?
I dunno what you're giving it at the moment, so I can't tell

@ArtOfCode Here's my code:
def query_times_graphs
    controller = params[:controller_name]
    action = params[:action_name]
    data = redis(logger:true).zrangebyscore("request_timings/total/by_action/#{controller}##{action}", 1.month.ago.to_i, "+inf", with_scores: true).map { |y, x| [x.to_f, y.to_f]}
    smoothed = moving_avg(data)
    render json: smoothed
  end

Yep, done, but I get unix timestamps on the x axis. And if I convert to datetime (#map { |x, y| [x.to_time, y] }) it just puts 2 on the x-axis, which I do not understand

screenshots?

Oh, nevermind
Well, mostly nevermind
