@iBug Well, auto-start is easy with just adding something to the various startup scripts. On my EC2 instance, I added sudo -u ec2-user /bin/bash -c 'cd ~/SmokeDetector; screen -d -m -S SD python3 nocrash.py standby' to /etc/rc.local, which starts up my SD instance in screen, which I can connect to when I log in. There are lots of ways it could be done.

@iBug Auto-restart is a different issue. The problem I've seen is that 50% of the time that I've had issues with the instance (only a couple/few times, so far), the process is still running. So, just monitoring for the process isn't sufficient. In that case, it would be necessary to have something monitoring an activity that SD does (e.g. it could monitor the network traffic for SD's attempts to contact MS to provide status, but then would have to account for times MS is considered down).
