@ArtOfCode Big WTF on my branch, I'd love for you to look. When we load from redis, the query time reported by rails is 3 times longer than when we load from a db. There's no way this is possible, and I'm 90% sure rails doesn't count redis time in DB time because we manage the redis connection object ourselves.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in answer (1): Can I deactivate this behavior in YouTube? by Walter White on webapps.SE

@ArtOfCode I find the MS reviews annoying for the same reason as I find the SE ones, they load too slowly because the transatlantic ping for me. I liked the system way better when it was first introduced, when all posts were just on 1 page, so I could directly switch to the next once my mind decided to press the button, and not 0.5 seconds after the button got pressed

@thesecretmaster I'll take a look on Tuesday when I'm at a dev PC

@ArtOfCode I think I've sorted it, but the best I can do is no improvment... which is sad.

@ArtOfCode With some hacks, I managed to get that speed back, but I'm currently doing something kinda sketchy: 1) Never expiring these cached posts and 2) Assuming that the last 100 posts in redis are the last 100 posts. How do we feel about that?
Also, an interesting possibility that this brings up is using something like RediSearch for search.

@thesecretmaster The latter might be a reasonable assumption, but the former... yeah we need to expire things

@ArtOfCode Well, then how do you decide when to expire them? These things should never change.

Manually expire when they're no longer needed - when you add an item, if length > 100 then expire(oldest)

If part 1 is reasonable, why not use redis for page 2+?

@thesecretmaster Where do you stop? Do you store all 1473 pages in redis as well as the database?

@SmokeDetector Maybe undisclosed affiliation: a user with a similar name has committed to the linked project & this user was created today and has only posted this answer. Custom mod-flagged suggesting asking for disclosure.

@ArtOfCode Any reason not to?

because... why would you store the same data twice?

For speed? I was also thinking that writing a redis module for regex search would be neat.

8:14 PM
Is double the storage requirements a reasonable trade-off for speed gain? What kind of gain are we looking at?

@ArtOfCode I don't know, I'm not done enough to tell.

@Makyen This is another example of something that never should have made it onto the blacklist. It never qualified under our guidelines (it had only 3 TP). After being put on the blacklist, it never had a TP again. It was also was significantly to general to be a good blacklist item. We should be significantly more proactive in removing things from the blacklist when they get an FP.

@SmokeDetector Could someone that can see deleted posts on MSE take a look at this one? Was it deleted as spam by community? Deleted by a moderator? The user is deleted/destroyed, so I'm just wondering if there are indications that a moderator found more than is obvious from the record we have here.
@SmokeDetector It's not clear to me if it was intentional, but "no" is actually an answer to this question. Obviously, not a good answer, but an answer. The extra characters to fill out the length requirement don't help to improve the quality. In fact, the other answer, provided by an SE employee, is basically "no", but with significantly better explanation.
