Upgraded to Python3.5 but now when I try to start smokey, it says:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "nocrash.py", line 16, in <module>

ImportError: No module named 'sh'

@Henders did you install sh?
do you have the python libs around?
did you do pip3 install --upgrade --user -r requirements.txt && pip3 install --upgrade --user -r user_requirements.txt

@thesecretmaster Same, join the club :)

@ThomasWard I didn't do that, no

@SmokeDetector v

@Henders you updated pip locally
you failed.
you need to remove the pip installed pip
then use system-installed pip
because it doesn't work otherwise

I updated pip locally? o.o
What does that mean

File "/usr/local/bin/pip3"
^ apparently
how'd you install Python 3.5?

I just upgraded the OS
so it updated python for me

5:24 PM
did you at any point ever do sudo pip3 install --upgrade pip?

When I first installed it way back, probably, yeah
but not since I've upgraded

that's the problem
you never should have run the pip upgrade command
so now you have to remove that pip manually
which will be pain
and then ONLY use the pip3 provided by the system's Python3 packages
what OS?

Hmm, okay. This does sound like a pain.
Ubuntu
16.04

nuke it, re-attach the EBS volume to a new 18.04 instance
:P
@Undo oh cool, that makes three of us

Eugh, I've been thinking about that.
I've got a bunch of websites that are running on it. Nothing special but will need some time to swap. IBUG mentioned EC2 t.3 nano is out too so I should upgrade there. And probably reserve.
EUGHHH

5:32 PM
reservations are wonderful things
but, if you just swap the volume, you don't have to set anything up again beyond installing/updating packages - it's already there

it's basically what I did to upgrade Solar Flare and Lunar Eclipse, but those're containers heh

5:40 PM
people usually don't want to lose their precious stuff...

backups are usually important. In either case, @Henders, I would go into /usr/local/bin and remove that pip3 symlink

@ThomasWard That would be enough to resolve it... or?

@Henders and then logout and login
that'll force the older pip to be used hopefully
if not, then you have to go through pain
i wrote a "Undo pip3 local install" guide somewhere... goes to dig it up on Ask Ubuntu

@MetaEd yup, as a mod you have privileges, so you can use !!/report <post url>

@Henders try following my answer in askubuntu.com/questions/1068849/…

5:43 PM
@ArtOfCode How can I do that without adding a comment line to the chatroom? Is there a userscript I should install?

for removing pip3 local installed and then just yse system-installed pip

@MetaEd it's not annoying at all
tbf, the onebox is more "annoying", and oneboxes are awesome!

@MetaEd I think there is a userscript somewhere (AdvancedFlagging maybe?) but most people just use the chat command

yep, AdvancedFlagging does report
but !!/reporting isn't annoying either, it doesn't "get in the way"

@EriktheOutgolfer Right, I won't need the onebox now that I have !!/report in my toolbag.
The reason I ask is that I see a lot of tp and fp results in here and no tp and fp commands that triggered them. So I assume there's a client that people are typically using.

5:46 PM
yep, your diamond is respected, you have automatic privs in here :D
SD isn't only present in this room
also, most people use userscripts for that

@MetaEd aye, that's FIRE - but we use that not to avoid cluttering chat but just to make it easier

@MetaEd yep

Maybe we should watch the entire .vip domain instead ...

@ThomasWard Thanks. I'm not great at the whole package part of linux. I can do other things but not this :P Any good sources of reading for that kind of thing?

I use AdvancedFlagging nowadays, since I'm also giving feedback to Natty

5:49 PM
!!/watch- psiphon\.vip

!!/watch- hillclimbracing\.vip

@Glorfindel .vip looks very, very spammy, but I think that it's not such an easy decision to watch an entire TLD
not that .vip domains are often used outside of spam in SE

.ir and .pk are caught by Pattern-matching website, so there's a precedent

5:50 PM
@Henders ask me :P
Ask Ubuntu's where I got my mod and i'm on the server team, i'm fairly fluent in how it works
and have an automated deploy script for Smokey on 16.04 and 18.04 systems :p

@ArtOfCode Found FIRE - that saves me leaving our site's general chatroom to find smokedetector which seems handy.

@ArtOfCode Advanced Flagging looks like a monster.

@MetaEd most of it's webpack, to be honest

@EriktheOutgolfer Gotcha. Ok I'll take the automation climb a bit at a time, starting with FIRE.

you don't really need to use what I use
FIRE, AIM, SIM, FDSC and SPAM are probably your best starter kit

@EriktheOutgolfer i think i have all three running at the same time

yeah, I try to avoid that, it's not like Charcoal doesn't involve a lot of concurrent userscripts already
and, combined with SOCVR and SOBotics, eh

eh, SPAM isn't strictly necessary

if you're not me :P
I'm not always watching over this room, and I'd like to be able to hear whenever a new report appears
if I don't generally want to give feedback at the moment, I either close the CHQ tab, or, if I'm chatting in here, I just let it be
although MetaEd might not really need it
the only problem is that FDSC doesn't have a checkbox :P

@EriktheOutgolfer I'm taking even smaller steps. Need to figure out how to get a Reviewer bit so I can run FIRE.

6:49 PM
just ask somebody who can give it to you
cc @Art

@MetaEd You need to ping an metasmoke admin.

you need a MS account

Have one.

done

6:50 PM
Awesome.

yep, the Reviewer role is manual, because some spammers decide to make a MS account themselves, hoping to mess everything up :P
(alright, I might've added the last part myself)

Works. I'll live in that for awhile. Then I'll look into how to add a !!/review action to posts themselves.

@iBug The quick reloading of watch/blacklists is nice, but it's also nice to have a short delay between when we add an item and when it reloads. We're often adding more than one entry at a time. When doing so, it's nice to be able to have them all reloaded a single time after we're done.

@EriktheOutgolfer that's Flagger

Flagger is automatic, no?

6:58 PM
auto-Reviewer was removed when we made our first autoflagging meta post so that not everybody and their dog could send feedback
@EriktheOutgolfer sometimes

@iBug Maybe add commands like !!/watch-delay- which adds a 60s (or 30s?) delay to reloading after the command is complete. Then we could do multiple !!/watch-delay- commands in a row and still have a 60s delay after the last one completes, or the user could have the last command be !!/watch-, which immediately reloads.

inb4 woof
@ArtOfCode well, the only bad thing spammers can do with it is...that's right, help autoflagging!

and get into the channel

(although it can still be revoked)

and there might be something else but I've forgotten what

7:01 PM
yeah, those should require the Reviewer role

yes, I'm a walking MS codebase encyclopedia

brain bloated? lol

@EriktheOutgolfer nope, using flagger was deliberate because we might want to let people into the channel who don't and shouldn't have reviewer, but almost everyone has flagger
most MS decisions are deliberate and reasoned like that

um, "shouldn't have reviewer" means they did deliberate bad things with it? ...
well, of course Flagger should be manual in case a 1-rep user suddenly decides to sign up to MS

7:20 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer eh, that'll just cause a send_autoflag failure and MS will pick a different user instead
