Hmmm... Interesting. There are different numbers reported. I mainly use the search page, which reports 99,633 TP. That's significantly different than the 99,988 reported on the homepage (which I usually only see in passing on my way to another link :-) ).
I might not have mentioned it if the number I'd been seeing was 99,988. I wonder why there is such a significant difference between what's reported on the homepage and what search shows as the number of TP. I note that search also lists a significantly smaller number of total posts 124,619 vs 125,273 on the homepage. Does that mean that there are 654 posts that have been deleted, but are still counted by the number on the homepage?

@iBug Yes, that's what it would mean in that context.

Only 4 TPs during my exam, so...
Since it's already 99,992, I prefer to keep it.

@iBug Yeah, I'm aware of that... Ahhh... you mentioned the additional issue at the bottom. IMO, the two things are separate issues. If it's identified as TP in one place, it should be TP in the other, and the total number of posts should be the same, unless we're counting deleted MS post.

@Makyen Actually a bit different, afaict

@iBug Yeah, that's what I said in the message just below the one you replied to.
@iBug Yeah, I'm a lot less concerned about the number matching using the numbers from the homepage. I was looking at the numbers from the search page, which show almost a 400 TP difference.

2:52 AM
@Makyen You'll notice that all three numbers on the front page are larger than those on the search page, at a similar ratio.
So... not as easy as "should've been counted the same".

@iBug I believe that I mentioned two of them in the message I last directed you to. I ran out of room to mention tmore, but I must admit that I'd assumed that the difference in all four numbers Total, TP, FP, and NAA should be looked into, at least so far as knowing the reason for the difference.

@iBug That's basically what I'd expect. I'm not sure if I'm motivated enough to ask for anything to be done with it. Although I guess it would be better to include it.

So I need some github best practices. I've modified the SD source and want to commit a rule. What do I have to do next?

@FrenzyLi You have a GH account?

3:37 AM
@iBug Yes; logged in.

Fork the repository, change the remote origin to the URL of your fork and git push.
It's recommended that you checkout a new branch
@Makyen By the way, it seems scanning and reporting posts are fairly uncommon in SOCVR, am I right?
If so, I think I don't need to "advertise" the new !!/report command there.

@iBug git remote set-url <ssh-link-to-my-fork>?

@FrenzyLi Use SSH link if you have SSH access set up at GitHub.

There are some. I'd have to check to get a feel for how many / what the rate is. I know that I tend to do most of my SD related interactions here, primarily because SOCVR tries to stay away from moderating users, and dealing with spam or R/A posts often ends up focused on the user.
@FrenzyLi What tools do you use? Which OS? Do you mostly use the command line interface, or are you mostly a GUI person for code control?

3:42 AM
oh, fine. I just searched SOCVR and found very few scan or report commands.

@iBug When I push, it says my branch is behind and asks me to pull; when I pull, it asks me to commit or stash first; so do I commit changes first?
@Makyen I use git bash for windows

@FrenzyLi git stash, then pull, then git stash pop

@iBug it worked; commit next?

@FrenzyLi Commit, checkout and push
It's recommended that you commit your features in a separate branch so as not to mess up with master.

so I git checkout -b first then commit?
@iBug is there a naming convention to branches?

3:46 AM
@FrenzyLi Nope. As long as you like it.
Although it's recommended that you give it a name that you can recognize by yourself, e.g. scan-command or mostly-punc

@iBug If you want SD historical information from SOCVR, you need to look in the SOCVR Graveyard and SOCVR Sanitarium. There should be no !!/reports older than a couple/few hours in SOCVR itself.

Done, both used rarely.

@FrenzyLi For repositories I don't own, I usually use a prefix to identify that the branch is mine, then something descriptive to identify what the change is intended to be.

@iBug I guess it depends on what you define as rarely. The first page of results in the Graveyard indicates about 1 every 2 days, which is about 1/6 the rate that the first page of results indicates it's used in here. Perhaps we're using different definitions of rarely, or you looked over a different period of time (I'm sure usage varies).

@FrenzyLi I assume you're talking about the button in FIRE. Currently, the "rude" button in FIRE sends tpu- feedback to MS, but does not flag the post. The "spam" button sends tpu-feedback to MS, and does raise a spam flag on the post through MS. That, may, or may not, change. It changing is currently being discussed.
As to the feedback on that post, IMO tp/tpu is justified on that post, because while the offensive content can be removed, the post doesn't actually answer the question. Thus, removing the offensive content leaves it as not an answer, but determining that it's NAA does require a bit of domain knowledge and an NAA flag might be declined. IMO, when removing the offensive content leaves it NAA, then tp is appropriate.

@SmokeDetector Removing the offensive content would result in this being not an answer. It's basically a rant with a bit of specialized knowledge, which doesn't answer the actual question.
