[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Repeating characters in answer: How did google get the outline for postcodes on maps? by GlitchBangv2 on stackoverflow.com

@SmokeDetector not entirely sure how you're using TLD_CACHE but I bet functools.lru_cache can do some of this for you
(cc @ArtOfCode)

in what way is it demonstrably better for the purpose of storing a pre-fetched list of things than a standard list?

easy as heck, good performance and can cap the size of the cache for you

Look, I know Python has lots of fancy builtins and fancier packages, and I know playing with them is fun. I also know that playing with things you don't thoroughly understand in a production environment is a good way to write bugs. If it's simple and it does the job, I'm gonna use it unless there's a good objective reason to use something else.

12:12 AM
um, all right

Lists are O(1) access, O(n) enumeration. It's... kinda hard to get better than that. I don't need to cap the size; it just needs to hold the lot. And lists are about the easiest interface there is. There's not a huge amount of reason to use anything else for the job I need it for right now

Like I said, I don't know how you're using this. But functools.lru_cache you can literally just put at the top of any function and it caches the results of the function
I have literally never had to roll my own memoization in Python because of it
the LRU part is the cache replacement policy, which is actually pretty important for keeping memory usage down

pretty sure we can spare an extra 85 kB of memory on most of the devices Smokey runs on

@quartata I've fixed the allspam issue with answers, but now it doesn't seem to work beyond a single post. It might be due to ratelimiting, but I don't think that would be an issue until about 3-4 posts in. Any ideas?

@paper1111 instead of posting a chat message which says 'all this user's posts are spam', which is rather useless as it doesn't even create a MS record, the new command will manually report each of their posts. It even works network-wide.
It'll be avaliable once the new chat refactor gets merged
