I don't think one token for all events is a good idea at all, because of that flaw. Each bot should treat Redunda as a "proxy" for webhooks -- events come from GH or whatever to Redunda, and Redunda delivers them to the bots.

The rationale is that a bot can receive webhook notifications without having to run its own web server, just like how Smokey receives CI notification from Redunda (except all the validation is done bot-side instead of Redunda-side).

Redunda should act like a transparent proxy which simply forwards the requests to the bots, without processing or validating them.

Oh, slightly different model to metasmoke, then.

I was still thinking metasmoke, where we validate GitHub hook tokens before even starting to process the event

but yeah, store-and-forward works

as long as you let bot operators define acceptable origins for webhook payloads to come from, so that Redunda doesn't just accept any old Joe's POST request to /events/add

the acceptable origins thing is like an honesty-system validation, and the headers are the real cryptographic validation

just means any given event that a bot gets forwarded to it is more likely to be valid, since it's had to pass origin validation already

avoids more unnecessary event processing bot-side, which is good because bots could be running on low-power hardware

whereas we know the Redunda server has capacity to do a bit of basic validation

That makes sense; how would it work though? Does it just look at the IP address, or do webhook servers send an origin header or something?

That I don't know, would need to look in to it

But you're right that the major validation is the header validation, so leave that off if it's too much effort to be worth it, it's just a nice to have thing

@Mego Spam flags tend to fail if you already submitted another feedback in the past 5 seconds, probably caused by the timeout in the SE api

"phone\Wremotely" is in our bad keywords, and a search for it matches 12TP / 1FP. However the 12 TP were never caught using that keyword, and the one FP was picked up from that keyword.

Do we remove that keyword?
