@Undo would there be any objection to me executing on that PR and pull in the debugger bits I've written, if only so that when I go hunting I don't have to make local tree changes?
at some point i'mma say "Screw this, we'll do this the HARD WAY", wrap six lines in a try/except, and reimplement the changes I made previously. With a counter, so if it has too many failures it exits with ecode 10, to let networking settle and then restart.
@Undo We could do that, I have some code from my 'check if the address is alive' code that uses a pure connection socket to try and connect, and see if it works
steal it from that, execute socket open then close, if it doesn't timeout or error, continue, otherwise die w/ ecode=10
or w/e we choose to use (10 is the 'stop, wait 5 seconds, start again ecode I added)

@angussidney Any chance you could implement reconnection & ping code to the autoflaging userscript? High packet loss on the wifi here causes MS to think the connection is closed, while the packets are dropped, while my browser thinks the connection is still open, I can see this by the pings stopping in the dev tools
@Ferrybig I could give it a try, but I'm not overly familiar with websockets in general and the autoflagging script itself, you should probably talk to @JF or @Glorfindel for that (they're the maintainers for the AIM script)
I did see it come in however, so it could have been 3-5 secs

the grey-out is IMHO a more important feature than the autoflagging status, but it's kind of ironic that the autoflagging userscript currently doesn't show any autoflagging information ...

@Ferrybig Currently, we receive pings but drop them. I don’t know if ActionCable supports sending pings.

@Glorfindel A quick search turned up ReconnectingWebSocket, which attempts to reconnect if the connection is dropped. We could additionally force this if the pings are too far apart.

@JF that's useful but not very discoverable, should there be arrow icons to indicate that these are clickable to select sort order? up/down arrows are pretty much standard
