@Glorfindel Well, yours isn't automatic

We have the data on MS, it's just not shown in the graphs.

but I'm guessing the average will be influenced by latency before it's reported here in the first place
also, maybe weekends should be reported separately

I think what's causing the average to be so high is the fact that during offpeak times there aren't many people around to give feedback/flag, and hence no action is taken on many posts
We should probably be removing outliers from those stats

@angussidney seconds, yeah. It's average ttd

10:19 AM
Yeah, we should definitely remove outliers from those graphs. They're driving the line up quite a bit

the graph suggests that this is average per this particular hour of day, so there should be no offpeak times e.g. 10-11 UTC except maybe on weekends

Ah, well. It's lies, damn lies and statistics. (The first two pertain to spam posts, obviously.)

@MarkYisri you can just flag, that's helpful enough. Check if your judgement of posts reported by Smokey are the same as those of the regulars. After a while, you can ask for privileges. At least that's how I did it.

You go for it. You asked for it first.

I'd prefer to pass

@MarkYisri what Glorfindel said. If you know Python and/or Ruby, developers are also welcome

I know some Python

@SmokeDetector account suspended now so unlikely to be necessary any longer
and the post was mod deleted
@MarkYisri it would be extremely nice if the whole thing could be ported to Python 3 before 2020 but being able to test things requires some amount of infrastructure (your own metasmoke instance and/or API key and/or other resources)

I think we're gonna hold off on porting to 3 until we're happy with autoflagging - one big project at a time, and all that. There are various issues that could be worked, though.

@tripleee Ouch, a 1 year suspension!
@ArtOfCode can you tell me more about autoflagging?

@MarkYisri why ouch?

12:17 PM
@MarkYisri what about it, in particular? The TL;DR is that we have a hell of a lot of data, and we decided to make use of it to enable us to flag spam posts automatically

@ArtOfCode I'm excited for autoflagging. So far the method seems to be 100% accurate and the 2 fails are procedural fails of flagging (technical)

@Magisch 99.98% accurate, technically, we've got 2 false positives out of 12072 total

Theorethically when the SE team approves there is nothing stopping us from upping flag count to 3-4 and make very short work of lots of spam with minimal effort.

So you mean that the bots can flag by themselves? Very cool!

@ArtOfCode Thats better then any human user of the site, IIRC

12:20 PM
@Magisch that's the idea

Certainly better then me, I'm at 99,40% on SO and I'm very self conscious about my flags

@ArtOfCode can you handle that?

12:28 PM
@MarkYisri yeah, that's down to you not having the Reviewer role
@tripleee Mark doesn't have privs :)

And only the MS admins can issue privs

@MarkYisri can you come up with something to sort out the true positives from these samples? metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/…
proposed by Glorfindel this morning (I think it was)
the "university of" is probably not by itself a good heuristic and most of that is being caught correctly already by other heuristics AFAICT
but it could be a good way to get familiar with the system

I'm a bit confused @tripleee
There's already a menu option to do that

git pull smokedetector as per the instructions in the project's README on Github and take it from there
@MarkYisri yeah from the search, but for the bot to correctly classify these in the first place
i.e. not trigger on the ones which are false positives so they don't end up in the system in the first place
(though I guess some of those will have been manually reported)

@tripleee how about excluding "at" in front. If you exclude posts with "at" prepending the "University of" from the list, you grab out most false positives: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/…

12:32 PM
I'll see, but it seems like a large project

@MarkYisri it may be a bit daunting at first, I was certainly intimidated when I tried to submit my first pull request
but if you want to help with the code, that's the way to go

@Undo I can't figure out how, but it'd be nice if users were able to log in to metasmoke without the reviewer role - add a check for it before authorizing review, but allow login without it

another task could be to do some PCA on the various heuristics to see which ones have significant overlap

@ArtOfCode Someone I know on SU has been flag banned (on a single site I presume), which prompted this question - will SD cope with this when auto-flagging is using individual accounts? Is there code in there to nicely handle this edge case?

@DavidPostill sort of - the flag on their account will fail, but Smokey will just keep trying other accounts until it fills the required number of flags or runs out of accounts to try
