no
@hichris123 ever get that monitoring thing working?
Oh, we have the timestamps. That's what we wanted.
Sure looks like they're bunched up
And suspiciously close to twelve seconds apart.
So can anyone explain what's wrong with a global lock on API requests?

5:33 PM
depends how it's implemented. we don't want to lock out API requests, crash and on restart there is still a lock in place.

@Andy I wouldn't think those locks would be sticky if the whole process dies, but it'd be sane to test it
AFAICT it's a Python-level thing, not a kernel/lower-level thing.

should be, yeah

The only thing I could see would be to have decent error handling that releases that lock if the API tries to send us something goofy, which we should have anyway.
Seems to me like a quick way to implement a queue that actually works.

@undo works for me. What changed? AJAX?

yeah. If you don't notice then it works okay :P
Noticed that loading post bodies was slowing some queries down significantly.
Not really sure why, but meh

@undo probably 'cos they're strings longer than VARCHAR(255), which SQL wasn't designed for originally and has had trouble with ever since :) Or something like that.

that'd make sense

MEDIUMTEXT, aren't they?

@ArtOfCode it seems to be caused by the line break after the image, since a linebreak is whitespace according to html, and the whitespace is rendered as a space

@undo Hmm, looks like this is an API issue. With a violation of a backoff, it increases the backoff time but doesn't inform us of that.
Temporary fix might be a lock on requests.

6:51 PM
@hichris123 Sounds like a need for a feature request.

@ArtOfCode That's definitely possible, see stackoverflow.com/questions/23182904/…

@Andy Yep.

@JanDvorak You sure? he shows how to filter on multiple post id's

If that URL was meant as an example rather than anything behind it ... edit-worthy at best?
If he was trying to point at his own server code, he failed miserably.

@JanDvorak I have seen atleast 2 edits from him on the post (grace period), and now it even includes code. Lets see what he does with my question in the comments

I'd rather not get to see that obnoxious "you've had a declined flag in the last week" thingie, thank you :-)

We have flag retraction now, :-), no need to wait it out anymore

7:38 PM
Oh, sweet. Retract and edit?
Wait, how do you retract? I don't think that works for "high-priority flags"

But even, his first example, the first version of the post showed an url that contains an effective or on a field in the url, what the author asked
@JanDvorak press flag, then retract flag

I only tested it with mod flags until now, not sure if it is there for spam and rude...

Q: Spam flag declined on users library promotion

castisI flagged this question as spam because it appears to me that the point of their post is to promote some thing that the they made. The flag was declined stating 'flags should only be used to make moderators aware of content that requires their intervention'. The post was closed with "unclear wha...

Seems like a workaround for a missing way to do it the official way
Apparently it can't be retracted because it was declined?

@JanDvorak Well, you can retract only pending flags.

The flag dialog should have told me the flag had been handled

Q: Include backoff value (or remaining time) in API backoff violation response

Jason CWhen a rate limit violation in the API occurs, a response such as the following is received: { "error_id": 502, "error_message": "Violation of backoff parameter", "error_name": "throttle_violation" } This is a feature request for one or both of the following: Include backoff time (or t...

@JanDvorak was it declined or disputed?

declined

@JanDvorak A few mistakes aren't a problem, the penalty the review page give are worse

Review audits? I don't do reviews.
Though, I guess I should still be able to pass edit audits

most audits are pretty obvious
mainly if you filter on certain categories, like in the close vote queue, it is obvious if you get a C question that it is an audit

@hichris123 We shouldn't be violating the backoff at all, though.

Theoretically, yes. In practice... we should probably just space out requests more or something.

@undo your AJAX change has, however, broken review, where posts are expanded by default.
Noncritical because you can toggle expansion and it works, but the old behaviour is broken

oh, review. Just a sec, there's an easy way to fix that.

If you're doing... Mind filling in owners on API keys, if you've got time? Can't do it from the UI because I forgot to handle that scenario in the view code.

@ArtOfCode At a thing right now, so not really
