metasmoke must've blipped there, no record of that post. I've been noticing this a bit more recently, @Undo.

@hichris123 Hrmph. Not sure what layer would make little blips, although I can go look at the logs

Yeah, it's really strange. I'd think if it were to be down it would just fall over and be down until you poked it.

Looks like that post is in the log, actually
Trying to figure out what happened to it

Ohhhh
Mysql2::Error: Data too long for column 'why'
@hichris123 ^ There's your problem

3:28 AM
@SmokeDetector why
Well that's why...

@SmokeDetector k

@Undo Shouldn't that be a VARCHAR?

So we have some options: (1) truncate it, or (2) make the SQL field bigger

For some reason, I'm inclined to truncate it - that's a heck of a lot of data that... do we really need to store it?

Jun 7 at 9:40, by Ferrybig
FR - metasmoke should not show all matches is a bad keyword is repeated multiple times, only up to 5 matches for the same keyword should be displayed, check spam by wingding where this is a problem

@soup How hard would it be to implement that at a Smokey level? Might be most effective there

@Undo Probably not. Yeah, you could just truncate it.
@Undo That could happen, but it depends how far you want to go into the rabbit hole.

yeah

3:32 AM
[ SmokeDetector ] Mostly non-Latin answer: why does getsizeof a float num return 16 in python by vans on stackoverflow.com

TEXT is 64 Kilobytes, apparently :/

@SmokeDetector tpu-
Poor spammers.

Used an image to hide messaging number.

@Undo Apparently there's such thing as a LONGTEXT?

Maybe this wingding guy is smarter than we think and he's just trying to... DDoS me and fill up MySQL? :P
Remarkably slow and tedious tactic

3:36 AM

@SmokeDetector n
@Undo can you archive his crap

@Yvette I could, but the DB isn't slow enough for me to care yet

Limiting the number of matches returned, while still returning multiple matches seems complicated. Since the issue is only with wingding (outlier), truncation is probably best. And at something much less than 64 KB.

Probably would just clear out the 'why' on all the wingding posts
@soup Thoughts on an exact number?
(pulling data)

max length where user is not wingding?

3:39 AM
Average why length is 148.0928, overall
pulling max...
Max on non-wingding posts is 13057

If you truncate, may I suggest clipping from the middle. Keep the beginning and end, where distinguishing stuff is more likely...

13K is still too long, could be wingding-like troll.
1KB ought to be enough for everyone.

16735 posts w/ why data overall; 16686 are <1k on why column; 16560 are <500
14476 are <250
Thinking that 1K would be sane

Maybe just do why = why[:512] + why[-512:] on Smokey side.
Except not like I wrote, which would double short strings...
if len(why)>1024, that is

This can be done easily on the MS side, but it'd be nice to save the bandwidth
(not that I care that much)

3:43 AM
@soup Don't forget an ellipsis: "..."

Yes, that too. Let's truncate Smokey-side if it's going to be discarded anyway.

Sounds sane. I'm going to go do that right before the metasmoke send
(so we keep the full why for a limited time if we need it for some reason)
Now... to test this...
Tempted to undelete some spam and report it

A card security code (CSC), (also called card verification data, card verification number, card verification value (CVV), card verification value code, card verification code (CVC), verification code (V-code or V code), card code verification, or signature panel code (SPC)) is a term for a security feature for "card not present" payment card transactions instituted to reduce the incidence of credit card fraud.
