@Minestrone And at least 1 of those "tp"s wasn't. Also the post page correctly shows a check plus an x, but [status:bug], the search results do not!

@BrockAdams Probably because of some Rails optimization, using what we get from the join instead of running another includes query.

@SmokeDetector Huh, apparently usernames can contain those characters on English sites?

@Undo They can be anything that is a word character in Unicode.

6:10 PM
Ah okay.

@SmokeDetector @Undo this is your job :)

@ArtOfCode ooh fun
@ArtOfCode Where is unescaped stuff causing issues?

@Undo I had one on SO that had a <h1> tag in the title, which wasn't closed, so the rest of the list showed up as a h1.

6:38 PM
@ArtOfCode What list, though?

@Undo The reports list from my userscript, in the sidebar.

ohhhh
okay
merged
deploying

now we see how badly I broke it

Deployed

I didn't break it! Awesome! And it's fixing things:
{"id":15696,"title":"how to mix links ( \u0026lt;a\u0026gt; tag ) and headings ( \u0026lt;h1\u0026gt; tag ) in web standard?","link":"//stackoverflow.com/a/35036246","site_logo":"//cdn.sstatic.net/stackoverflow/img/favicon.ico"}
That's the entry I was talking about with the h1 tag.
And it shows up right in the sidebar. Awesome.

6:43 PM
Okay. I'm going to try this for a while and see what breaks.

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev 0295a0b (Normal Human: dose pattern) (running on Raspberry Pi)

If this works, it could substantially reduce the temperature in my closet.

Restart: API quota is 3252.

Oh, RPi? Cool :)

@Undo seems like you'd want that in this weather :P

6:47 PM
lol
It'll get up to the low 40s F today
heh, it's painfully obvious that Smokey isn't all that multithreaded.
It does that when it gets a big batch of answers.

Why not delegate post processing off into another thread per post?

That's what I was considering
The worst thing that could happen is that a whole bunch of threads try to write to a file at once, I suppose

Leave one thread just for receiving data, it can delegate tasks off as necessary.
@Undo That's what locks are for.

sounds hard

Nah, you could even do it manually. Create a locked_files dict, create a write_file method which checks if the file is in the lock list, wait if it is, write if it's not.
Couple of extra methods to lock and unlock (or just add straight to the dict) and you're golden.

7:11 PM
@Undo where do you define what's in the cache and where is it updated, in MS?

@ArtOfCode Rails magic
What specifically are you looking at?

@Undo The recent API. You get a load of stuff from the cache, but I'm trying to work out where it went in.
Also, you realise secrets.yml should really not be in the git repo?

@ArtOfCode Those aren't the real values used in prod

Cool

@ArtOfCode If there isn't anything in the cache, it runs line 12 and populates the cache with it.

7:21 PM
all is dandy

Then the cache expires in thirty seconds.
I really should make it so that it expires only when a new post gets added, which is possible and easy but I'm lazy.

Oh right, so you're sort of both getting and setting in that block?

@ArtOfCode Right
Unless there's a valid cache item available, then it gets it and doesn't run that code

Cool, sense made.
