@AnnonomusPenguin ... if I want to hurt someone bad enough that I would resort to using a plastic knife, then you taking away the plastic knife will do nothing to curb that desire.
also, it gives the advantage to the kid who comes in with a real knife someday, and all anyone else has is spoons and a cellophane lunch bucket.
So, plastic knives are off topic (that is, unless @hichris wants to make a meat cutting machine with plastic knives). @hichris: what's the assignment, again?
@Undo I think most off-the-shelf RFID chips don't have that long of a range for a doorway

Really: one thing I've been wanting to do is make one of those light alarm clocks that wake you up by slowly increasing the light in the room. Do a 10x10 array of RGB LEDs and find a pattern online for a simulated sunrise and you're golden
Add an actual buzzer to wake you up if you don't wake up on time
@Undo Well seeing as kids have been suspended for arriving with a "gun shaped" pop tart and arrested for playing with baking soda and vinegar I wouldn't be surprised..
