@hichris123 You wantz commit access?

@Undo Ya thinkz?

@hichris123 GH username?

hichris1234

Ok

hichris123 was taken :(

1:00 AM
:(
@hichris123 Done!

@Undo Thanks!

np
@hichris123 You can pull to /charcoaldev with /charcoaldev/pull.php, ping either Manish or I for a pull to main. I just don't want too many people with the ability to break things too badly.
That'll change over time.

@Undo I probably will let you guys check me first, to make sure I don't break things.
Me no likey breaking stuff.

@hichris123 sounds good to me ;)

1:03 AM
@hichris123 Hehe
@ThiefMaster You around? I have a quick way for you to avoid 374 comment flags.

yes

Ok, lemme fire up SQL. when I was in no-bandwidth land I messed around with my local copy and found something.

I could even give you comment IDs, @ThiefMaster. I have a list of (mostly) plz accept comments.

nice
comma separated please

@ThiefMaster I found out that this guy has left 374 of these comments:
> Did this answer help you to find your solution to your question, if so, please accept this answer. See meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/5234/… for how to mark answers accepted. Thank you!
Want the IDs?
374 is almost mod-warnable, right?

1:07 AM
@Undo Are you going to implement the review queue now, since you're back to bandwith land?

@hichris123 Sometime soon, methinks.

@Undo yes

@Thief Ok, how do you want them?

some pastebin is probably the easiest way

k
crap, I can't access pastebin. Corp. filter.
I'll just host the CSV on my server and give you a URL.

1:09 AM
gist.github.com :p
yeah, that's fine, too
(i didn't mean pastebin.com anyway, it sucks)

Oh, ok. I'll use gist, save myself come scp'ing.
return-seperated, sorry.
Let me know when they're gone.

script is running

@ThiefMaster Are mods rate-limited on deleting comments?
Hehe, it's fun refreshing his profile and watching the comment count dropping.
The count has stopped dropping.

Same thing on the mod view. Exactly at 500

∴ the comments must be all gone.
@ThiefMaster Mod view? 500?
I... only gave you 374. Uh oh :P

1:22 AM
he had a bunch of deleted ones before ;)

Ah

i think all comments in that list got deleted
i'll take care of the other accept-related comments he has
(there are A LOT more that aren't in that list)

@ThiefMaster Do you want like 200 please-accept comments?

sure

@ThiefMaster Yeah, they show up in my DB too. I just figured it would be easiest to knock out 374 at first, then cherrypick the rest later.

1:25 AM
Comma separated

deleteComments($('td').filter(function() {
    return $(this).text().indexOf('Did this answer help you to find your solution to your question') != -1;
}).parent('tr[data-id]').map(function() {
    return $(this).data('id');
}).get());
hah!

rofl

too bad the mod stuff is paginated, too, and doesn't have a "view all" button...

@ThiefMaster there's always the data dump - I can send you all of anyone's comments in a csv if you want.
(as of whenever the last dump was)

or just link me the relevant SEDE query ;)

1:28 AM
October I think.

(don't include that guy thouh, his comments are gone or will soon be)

@ThiefMaster Ooohhh good idea!
Oh I have a few more people to turn in for please-accept comments.

feel free to link me a page like this for bulk-deleteable comments

@ThiefMaster Ok.

that way i can quickly verify it and just copy&paste the id list in my script

1:30 AM
Sounds good.

i'll try lowering the delay to 100ms instead of 250ms.. hopefully the site doesn't throttle me ;p

@ThiefMaster You're a mod, you shouldn't be throttled too bad.

i think it's on the loadbalancer level

Ah

all his accept comments are gone now :)
there might be some with a different wording but probably just a few that can be flagged
depending on the text a single flag will delete them anyway

1:36 AM
Ah, true.
I have another guy coming here pretty soon once I sort some things out.
Oops, got to go now.

sure, just ping me once you got stuff to delete and i'll do it later/tomorrow

@ThiefMaster My comments now? :)

ah you also have some? go for it!

> We're sorry...
> There are an unusual number of requests coming from this IP address.

1:42 AM
@ThiefMaster Mods get IP limited?
Feature request time.

10 mins ago, by ThiefMaster
i think it's on the loadbalancer level

Hmm...

anyway, all gone now

Thanks.
Once I go through the rest of my 4600 line CSV, I'll give them to you.

1092 comments deleted today

1:45 AM
SO global stat?

nope, just mine

Wow.

and since it apparently goes by the UTC day those were probably just yours + the other comments from the guy you missed

You need an auto-deleter script.

i have one
i wouldn't do it manually :P

1:47 AM
No, I mean like detection + deletion.

@hichris123 It's kinda nice having a mod to pester, isn't it? ;)

@Undo Yes, it sure is!

We need one for each site.

Manish

Manish is Phys + Chem.
We need SF and SU mods.

1:48 AM
Hmm...
Bother Shog.

Oh, yeah.
He did offer to do that for us, didn't he?

I think so.
@ThiefMaster Would you go for just a SEDE query?

yes, it's not too hard to get an id list based on that

@ThiefMaster Another batch here. Some of them have actual info in them, with the please-accept plea after them.
Not sure what you want to do with those.

@ThiefMaster http://data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/156824/obsolete-comments
All of those are obsolete.

1:52 AM
@hichris123 Nice find.

@Undo Comments are considered volatile... but I'd rather not delete ones that are still helpful just because of an accept comment in there

@Undo Do you format your queries?

@ThiefMaster Ok, I can find ones with just the please-accept plea.

@hichris123 As in?

1:53 AM
someone could check that for false positives :p

@ThiefMaster Checking...

@Undo Not just one line.

@hichris123 Oh, not really.
I just do whatever gets the job done.

@hichris123 running

I'm about an eighth of the way through that one, it looks good so far.

1:57 AM
@ThiefMaster Make a webpage to display your comments deleted total for the day.

@hichris123 Hehe
@ThiefMaster are you at the top of the comments-deleted-today mod list?

I'm actually curious what it is after today's said and done @Undo

yeah, anything else would be weird

@ThiefMaster Can you deal with comments you've already deleted?

@hichris123 Yeah, he can undelete them.

2:00 AM
yes

@Undo I mean what happens if you delete an already deleted comment?

but having them in the list anyway is not a big problem - they are not undeleted, i checked that just a few moments ago

@ThiefMaster I'm 99.9999% confident that all the comments in data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/156822 are safely nukable.
add width:33% to the first h2 tag and dont forget to accept my answer and vote it up :) — Abdul Malik Jun 20 at 18:04

great, then i'll look over them once again and launch the missiles ;)

^ The closest I've found to one that should be kept

2:02 AM
All of these should be nukable http://data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/156824/obsolete-comments (new version)

This is fun.

@Undo I'm going after your obsolete comments.

D:
But ok.

You may need to update Charcoal next week...

fyi, you don't need to select Text if you include a comment link. it uses the Text, too

2:03 AM
@hichris123 Probably.
I might make a cron job that runs through the comments on it and boots them off if they don't exist any more.

@ThiefMaster Thanks, I'll do that.
@Undo I'm doing this:
Where LEN(Text) < 45 AND Text like '%I edited my post%' AND LEN(Text) > 25

Ooh, nice.

It's nice that SEDE was just updated today. :)

:D
I think my next project will be to get the Posts table and flag all the NAAs

@ThiefMaster What's your deleted comments today at?
@Undo Tried that, not too many I could find.

2:06 AM
Hm

The problem is a lot are gone, with First Posts and Late Answers.

One can find VLQ's pretty easily.

@hichris123 almost done

@hichris123 After we clean up SO, we should hit SF.

@Undo Yes, I have this: stackoverflow.com/…*%22%20hascod‌e%3ano%20score%3a...-2

2:08 AM
1825

Why you no likey URL, chat?

rofl
@ThiefMaster Do you think you could entice an SF mod to come in here after we're done with SO?

I don't want to bother Shog, he's busy.
@hichris123 If the SF mods don't want to come in here at first, we simply flood them with flags until they come begging for lists of comments to delete.
I don't know why I didn't think of that at first.

@Undo We don't have a lot of flags.
On SF.

2:11 AM
i don't see any SF mod being active in TL very recently

Isn't it site-specific?

@hichris123 That can be changed very quickly.
@ThiefMaster Huh. SU?

do you have a SEDE link ready? if yes i'll ping one

Just a minute...

2:13 AM
@ThiefMaster Yup, I have a few ready. Wanna send one in?
(@hichris123, wanna look over data.stackexchange.com/superuser/query/edit/156835 ?)

First looks good.

@hichris123 Yours looks pretty good.

ah he's offline.. forgot to check the timestamp on his message

Drat.

Good enough to give it to @ThiefMaster, @Undo?

2:16 AM
@hichris123 Hmm, the length of some of those give me pause. But overall, it looks good.
(I tend to think that shorter ones are more deletable, for some reason)

you could also include score=0 in the query

Not sure score is really a good indicator, @ThiefMaster

@ThiefMaster No, score is null.

IMO, comment votes aren't reliable.

sure, it will cause some false negatives

2:17 AM
Some meta post on it.

ah :x

Score is null unless someone upvotes then unupvotes, I think.
Then it's 0.
@ThiefMaster Here's one: http://data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/156824/obsolete-comments

@hichris123 Wanna play with some SF comments? I see some SF mods online.
(once we've milked SO dry)

Sure @Undo.

> Do not meddle in the affairs of sysadmins, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
rofl
@hichris123 data.stackexchange.com/serverfault/query/edit/156841 looks good to me, you?

2:22 AM
@ThiefMaster MSO, all but last one good: data.stackexchange.com/meta/revision/156840/197024/…

i'm still on the 4.6k one - looking over it right now. i think i'll run that in smaller batches

@Undo Looks good to me.

@hichris123 Ok, let's see if we can find an SF mod to lure in here.

@ThiefMaster Aww... wanted to see the system crash because you're deleting 4.6K comments.

Hehe

2:24 AM
mostly to avoid having one super-long delete job

@Undo Who's a SF mod?

with 4 comments per second it takes some time

@hichris123 I'm going to see if I can get Michael Hampton in here.

@ThiefMaster 4 per second? That's horrible! Come on, make it 4.1 per second, then it's better. :)

in The Comms Room, 30 secs ago, by Undo
@MichaelHampton If you'd like to avoid a few hundred comment flags, it'd be nice if you would join us here:

2:26 AM
Me sees a SF user, but not mod.

Hmmm
I have pinged the mod, he seems to have sent spies to make sure we're legit :P

The mod is felt touching, feeling, collecting data.

I've got to go now, @hichris123 you handle him if you shows up ;)

JS for mods to bulk delete comments (paste the IDs and run it from your browser's console)
4

If, @Undo.
/* paste comma-separated ID list here */
@ThiefMaster That's going to be a lot of data.

2:29 AM
I'll still be kinda around

i use vim to convert the csv into a quote-less comma-separated single line - not sure if there's an easy way to create a single row with all the ids in MSSQL directly

but not really.
so kinda sorta.

Thanks, that cleared everything up. @Undo

@ThiefMaster You're a vim-ninja?

somewhat ;)

2:30 AM
:D
@hichris123 No problem :D

But I'm still too lazy to give zsh a serious chance over bash. There's just so much stuff to configure etc...

in The Comms Room, 8 secs ago, by Michael Hampton
@Undo OK, then flag them.
sigh

@ThiefMaster The 4K one running yet?

My strained relationship with SF mods is once again being strained :P

yes, it's in the middle of the 2nd 500-batch

2:36 AM
Yeesh
in The Comms Room, 26 secs ago, by Michael Hampton
Believe it or not, I have things to do that don't involve Server Fault. Just flag the comments and someone will get to them as soon as it's practical.
The mod wants flags.
Flags we shall give him.
Gentlemen, start your Charcoal.

How many flags do we get?
10?

@hichris123 Yes, but it's exponential.

@Undo I don't get the formula for comment flags.

@hichris123 You start with ten and get another one for every ten helpful flags.
10 + (valid-invalid)/10

Oh, it counts invalids.
Makes sense now.

2:40 AM
Yup
in The Comms Room, 48 secs ago, by Undo
We really don't want to flood their queue, but we can if they make us.
I don't think the mods really get what it's like to have Charcoal turned loose on them.

@Undo Did my ten.

@hichris123 We have ten post flags too, use them.

@Undo I need whole posts, then.

@hichris123 Just find posts with majority obsolete comments and flag them.

brb

2:46 AM
But please don't flood them with hundreds of flags.. it'll just be annoying (as someone from SE told you in tavern a few days ago)

@ThiefMaster Then how do make the comments be gone?
(we don't have hundreds of flags to use anyway)

Ah, if it's just a few then yeah, just flag them
"[32.0%] Deleted 31039970" - now my userscript is even better! ;)

:D

Progress display and proper resuming in case of an error

Neato!
@Manish I found an issue :P

2:54 AM
@Undo How'd you do that?

@hichris123 Used Manish's whole-post flag feature thingy.

Hmm... "'+flagoption+'"
