About a year ago I changed all of the queue depths to 1, except Stack Overflow and Mathematics. @hyper-neutrino The queue I was talking about is a per-site queue between when a notification comes in on the SE WebSocket to when SD processes all posts for a site by fetching the data from the SE API and scanning posts. There's also a queue with sites which have posts which should be handled.

When a post is sent over the SE WebSocket as having new activity, there's a summary of the post included, which is the first couple/few hundred characters, That is then checked. If that summary is detected as spam, then the post is added to the queue for the site and the queue for the site is put at the head of the queue of sites, which results in the post being fetched and processed more or less immediately.

If the post summary doesn't detect as spam, then the post is added to the site's queue and the site's queue is added to the queue of sites, if the site's queue has reached its queue depth. If the site's queue has not reached the "full" queue depth, then the site is not queued for processing.

@hyper-neutrino Rate limiting on the SE API is primarily done via a backoff response parameter indicating how many seconds the requestor needs to wait prior to sending their next request for that endpoint. If it's necessary for SD to wait, i.e. it got a backoff, then the fetching stalls for the required period of time. It's actually a bit worse than that in that it stalls upon backoff for any endpoint. If it's not stalled for that, then it processes the next ready site, if there are any.

To give real information on this, I'd really need to look at the queuing code again and in more depth. It's something I've looked a bit at, but not as much as I've intended/desired to, as I tend to be doing other things. :;

@Makyen Uh... as far as I understood from an earlier conversation with Ryan, this works around the implicit bookending of the watched expression with word boundaries, which is necessary in this case, as they often follow "help.microsoft.com" directly with other words, without a word boundary.

@CodyGray I'm not really sure what you're trying to accomplish, but you can't get "around" the keyword bookending. You'd need to write the regex to accommodate having the bookending there. What you've written is functionally identical to help\.microsoft\.com all by itself, except you use a capature group, which we really should avoid, unless needed, and you don't need one unless you're creating a named capture group, which you reuse within your regex.

I was trying to learn from this previous conversation. As I mentioned, the intention was to match "help.microsoft.com", even when it's not followed by a word boundary.

@Spevacus Given the bookending, that's functionally equivalent to help[\W_]*mi[\W_]*cro[\W_]*s[\W_]*oft[\W_]*com, as your negative lookbehinds can never match, because there must have already have been detected a \b before the "help", which none of your lookbehinds have.

I find the implicit addition of word boundaries to be very annoying. Obviously, if I wanted a word boundary on the expression, I'd add one.

@CodyGray In that prior situation, you were trying to start your regex with a double-quote. In almost all normal cases, a double-quote which starts a quote will be preceded by a non-word character. Given that a double-quote is not a word character, that means there wouldn't be a word character/non-word character boundary to be detected just prior to the double quote. That was the issue which was being resolved there.
