user435118
Where can I suggest a Smokey feature? Right here?

@Daniil Maybe, I was just curious initially.
To be frank, not entirely sure what happens here.

4:22 PM
@Daniil depends, what're you looking for in Smokey that doesn't exist?

user435118
@ifconfig You can take a look here: charcoal-se.org/training

@ThomasWard A feature that reports suggested edits that were rejected as spam or vandalism and contain a link

@ifconfig Example suspected spam report above ^

not sure that Smokey was built to handle suggested edits
only approved edits

user435118
4:24 PM
It has a weight of 1 - which means it's unlikely spam. The higher the weight the more likely it's spam

@Undo @ArtOfCode you two know more about the SE API, i don't think there's any insight to suggested edits without rep, right?

user435118
If it reaches a certain weight, automatic flags from registered users are cast to get rid of it quickly

... huh
Oh, 2.2
Right

@ThomasWard Might be crazy, but is it possible to have Smokey follow the URL shortener links? Would be helpful to see it's trying to hide a previously seen domain

user435118
4:26 PM
So can this feature be considered?

@ArtOfCode but does that require rep to see those suggested edits before they're even approved
my two cents is "no" given the fact that Smokey though it could see suggested edits doesn't have any real ability to act on suggested edits

@ThomasWard I can hit api.stackexchange.com/2.2/… in incognito

...huh?

anyone can flag a post after it's made or edited

the API has no concept of rep for the requestor

4:27 PM
but we can't really cast 'reject' votes on suggested edits without edit rep

The real issue here is that polling is expensive across hundreds of sites
If we want any kind of immediacy

user435118
Not reject them, report the spam links that were attempted to be inserted

@Daniil assuming that the 'spam' was actually links
that's not the only thing we detect on though :p

user435118
Yeah, there's no point on reporting vandalism, right?

huh interesting @ArtOfCode but does that only report on rejected/accepted or also pending?

4:30 PM
@ThomasWard shrug doesn't say. I'd assume both

There was a bot in SOBotics, FOX9000, which used to track suggested edits and report spam ones, but hasn't been active for a while now.

i don't have the rep to see the edit queues on SO so i'll just assume that in good faith xD

confirmed, pending as well

i mean, you could propose the feature @Daniil in the SmokeDetector repo as a bug or such, but I'm not sure how motivated we will be to actually include it because polling is, as Undo said, very expensive from an API perspective

user435118
@ThomasWard Are you sure about that?

4:32 PM
You have 2k+ on SO

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Manually reported answer (94): No task been assigned by manager by SlackWithScrum on workplace.SE

@Daniil Yes, it can be updated to do so. In fact, I wrote the code to do so quite some time ago. The issue has been load on MS. I've done a bit of investigation to see what's possible to reduce that, made some changes, and done some testing. An update should be released soon, which will reduce the load somewhat.
However, I still need to switch both FIRE and AIM over to using GraphQL prior to enabling AIM in transcripts. I've investigated and come up with what I want wrt. the GraphQL transaction, so both of FIRE and AIM can share data, rather than have the requests duplicated. Doing so also permits better discrimination between multiple reports of the same SE post.
As to AIM's shrinking of deleted posts, personally, I really don't like that formatting. I significantly prefer the formatting which the URRS uses to shrink and fade messages (i.e. so only the message moves around, not the whole page). My intent was to have which to use be an option.

@Daniil IMO, it would be better to use, or revive, the other bots which already look at suggested edits, rather than shoehorn the functionality into SD. If any of those other bots want to include the domains we have on the blacklisted_websites list or watchlist, that would be a relatively easy thing for them to do. The lists are publicly available on GitHub. Integrating this into SD's main functionality sounds like putting in effort to duplicate work that's already been done elsewhere.
Having SD report suggested edits changes what's expected for the qualifications of users who respond to reports. Currently, anyone with the association bonus can respond to any SD report, if they've chosen to just create accounts on other sites. If we also report suggested edits, then users responding to some reports must have enough rep on that particular site in order to respond to the report.
