4:00 PM
@nitsua60 OK, found it around 5:25. It's not a bad mention at all. I think Aaron Hall picked it up and ran with it. We're not secret. I think people don't appreciate what is done in here enough
cc @Makyen @ArtOfCode @Undo @Andy ^
!!/approve 3788

@Makyen Well crap. Made a typo in the approve and apparently Smokey did something undesirable

That's a bit strange (on SD's part).
I wasn't aware that you could do that without manually undeleting the branch and reopening the PR.

@Makyen chaos comes to you
do you have examples of MS token/oauth in userscripts that can validate if someone has a given permission set?
looking into MS Reboot capacity without me or Undo or Art having to poke things directly ourselves.

(powershell is fun >.>)

The main one is in FIRE.

you'll have to point where the auth is handled. I'm not a JS expert heh

Actually, the flow used in FIRE for the MS token requires the user to manually copy the token, IIRC. It's the SE token that's automatic.

4:19 PM
right, the MS token is something I can understand. Will have to look and dig to create a working system/service for allowing reboots by authorized individuals
which calls Powershell/PowerCLI to force VMware to reboot the VM.
adds it to his pile of Want To Haves

I have a very large pile like that

@Machavity I just think it's strange that they've got all these sites with hundreds of questions a day, then they ran out of name-ideas, I guess? And now the "Overflow" site gets thousands per day. Seems like someone should clean that up.
(he he he)

That is a good mention about Charcoal @nitsua60 :) Thanks!

@ThomasWard Getting the MS auth token starts in getWriteToken(). For the SE auth token is starts in requestStackExchangeToken().

right. MS is the one that i'm after because this is strictly MS related.
heh
... though we could probably write into metasmoke the ability to call the script, i'm a lazy guy so :P
would have to set up powershell and powercli and am lazy heh

I was significantly more confident about doing it, given that you were around, but I'd previously written and tested the sync-hard code for just this type of situation. Fortunately, it looks like it worked.

@Machavity This should be all fixed. The active instance is the only one which will have pulled that commit, so the other instances should just work (i.e. shouldn't need the !!/pull-sync-hard-reboot). It's unlikely that anything/anyone else pulled the commit (other than CI, which just works for this kind of thing). If something/someone else did so, they will need to -force the next time they pull.

4:50 PM
@Makyen cc @ThomasWard Deliberate design decision there. The user has to manually copy the 8-digit code into your app. The SE API can do it automatically because you're required to register a redirect URI that the API can send users back to with the code already present. That doesn't work for things like FIRE that don't have a domain name, so I deliberately made it manual-copy.

@SmokeDetector still up
@nitsua60 sure, thanks for getting back to us!

@ArtOfCode makes sense. best way then to interact with MS to determine if an individual has a certain set of rights or not? Assume that the user has to provide their token for auth, and then test if the token ties to a user with the rights to execute the specific code/procedures?

@ArtOfCode Sounds like a reasonable way to do it. Adding a landing URL for each app would add significant complexity, which really isn't needed for such a rarely used task.

@ArtOfCode if there's a way to integrate that directly into the system within MS rather than API then that saves the headache, I'll just have to give metasmoke the ability to execute the PS scripts

but not anything you need to put a ton of cycles into

way easier to just add a route to the API :P

@ArtOfCode you'll have to wait, kernel patching requires reboot

If it's an important patch you can set that up without reboots. That is, if you want to put the effort into it. It's called "live-patching".

Kernels are the only thing you can't really live patch. They do indeed require a full reboot

@Undo good question :p
probably because the infra was 66% RAM, 50% SWAP
it just got a reboot so might work now

You gotta have a local environment to deploy manually

@S.S.Anne Maybe

I wonder... Sometimes I leave my desktop on for a week and then it crashes because the hard disk somehow got detached. But the hard disk is firmly in place.

that sounds like failing hardware on your system board
or a bad cable or a bad connector somewhere

I wouldn't be surprised. Both the /home hard drive and the motherboard are old.
But / is a fairly new SSD. My dad and I got it when we put the computer together.
And that's the one I was having trouble with.
