@quartata Yep. CE parses the first block for content (latest rendered HTML) and the last block for content_source (earliest MD source)
I investigated /usr/local/lib/python3.6/dist-packages/chatexchange/message.py

3:04 AM
To get the latest MD source, the second block (if not the last) is the one that should be parsed.

hell yeah, still CE's fault!

So what exactly is the bad keyword here: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/127102 ?

@NisseEngström It's a longer "link after arrow", but it includes "read more" and "click here". The regex has been updated to not include the large amount of extra text.

@Makyen Good use of lookaround

@iBug Yeah, the current "Link after arrow in {}" doesn't use it (and I didn't really think about it when I copied it; should have, but didn't). However, what we really want to include in the why is at least the entire URL, and I think better would be to include the entire link HTML, so I'm going to update the regex again.

OK, no one's fault
SE Chat's websocket does not broadcast message MD source, so we have to manually fetch whenever needed.

That sounds like it might be more of a pain then just fetching from the plain=true URL. As long as it works, and doesn't cost significant performance, meh, whichever.

yeah, I've already suggested a working solution
I'm just looking at the root cause of this issue, trying to understand how exactly it's happening.

5:18 AM
right, finally got it.
The problem is, a full message object gets created when a message is posted in a room, and the same object is updated when the message is edited (instead of re-initializing).
When updating the message object, the content_source field is left untouched.
It's not worth it to update extra fields upon MessageEdited as such data is not provided in the data from SE Chat websocket and thus has to be fetched manually.
My proposal should suffice - fetch whenever needed.

@iBug Are you sure the data isn't provided via the WebSocket? The edit event (sourced from the WebSocket) in SE's chat JavaScript code has the same information as is available for the event notifying of a new message being posted (identical, but with a different id (that's the event ID; message_id is the same), different event_type, content (obviously), and added message_edits. OTOH, the raw post content isn't available at either time, so the WS may be substantially different.

Why are the queues for math, stackoverflow, salesforce and askubuntu so high? The reason for having queues is to save on SE API requests (I believe). Such requests can ask for a maximum of 100 questions/posts at a time. Because we're requesting questions, I could see that it's possible for the queue depth to be >100 and still not fill a request (e.g. there are multiple answers to check on the same question). However, a depth of 410 would require an average of >4 answers queued/question.
Well, actually >3 answers/question + the question itself.
Let's try rebooting.

@ArtOfCode Thanks.

np

BTW: Given that we normally reboot several times a day, if the information of how many requests have been made is something that's desirable, it seems that the number of requests since the last rollover (for that instance) might be more useful. Obviously, that would require storing # requests across reboots.
