Word of the month: Sealioning - innocently playing within the rules and (barely) politely doing what is allowed, regardless of their intent or (your) proof they can skate by, often others will come to their defense further increasing your load. Rate-limiting is one solution, calling them on it and offering to make a written complaint is another. --- More specific to our subject/concerns there's been a few questions recently that even if human
flagged could be weaseled out of, maybe without a warning.

@ArtOfCode cc: @Makyen - I made a rude/abusive flag on a post with swearing and personal attacks on downvotes at SO. The Mod rolled it back and declined the flag: (partial quote): "... I'm not sure what you want us to do here? The abusive content was rolled back, it wasn't missed (hence the disputed flag, not declined). They haven't vandalized the post since (ends there)". --- What I was thinking is that it was "helpful". Should we wait a certain amount of time before flagging, that's not
a good solution.

@Rob got a link?

Rob
Just a sec.
Second revision from the top (NSFW):
It looked worse the first time I looked at it. It's not the worst I've seen today.

2:50 AM
eeehhh... borderline, IMO. I'm on the fence about whether it qualifies as abusive or not. In those kinda cases it can sometimes be better to just mod-flag and ask for a rollback (or do it yourself, if you have enough rep) and mention that the user is being rude there.
less chance of a declined flag

@ArtOfCode I'm glad I could help. :-) The most common thing to use that prototype function for is to put a function into a <script> tag. If interested, I have a generalized version of doing that here, which allows passing most types of arguments to the function (notably including Date, RegExp and Function). If desired, it's also MIT licensed here.

@Makyen oh I have a much worse purpose for it

@ArtOfCode :-) Sounds interesting...

Rob
OK. I'll knock it down a notch. BTW, I have great record for helpful flags there.

@Rob Aye, the occasional declined flag is pretty normal, if you flag a lot of stuff as most people do here then you're going to get a few here and there. It's not a problem until it starts being a common occurrence.

Rob
2:54 AM
I'm shooting for 0, doing well. But I'll be a bit easier when someone has a downvote tantrum (and quits Stack Exchange).

@ArtOfCode I'll have to try it out. :-)

@Makyen TL;DR: Wanted to add more colors to the WB knitting thing; color list is stored in a closure-local variable in an anonymous function passed to $(). so... monkey-patching jQuery bit by bit so that I can modify the function before it gets executed.
It works, but... it's hacks all the way down

Regarding your code. You know that you can take any photo, downsize it 16x, scale it back, and upload image that is 1190x442 and the Winter-bash webpage will convert the photo to knitting. That's how some of the complex knitting has been done

Aye, but it still only uses ten colors or so
mostly did this because people in the WB chatroom asked for it

3:01 AM
@SmokeDetector Anyone who reads Chinese would know it is R/A. The last phrase means "dating for f***ing".

though that does give me an idea...

Rob
For true uglyness you could add Floyd-Steinburg to increase your perceived color count.

@ArtOfCode Sounds reasonable. I haven't looked at the code you're modifying. There are a variety of ways to accomplish the general task. The fully brute-force way is to write a browser extension that intercepts the script prior to it being loaded and load a modified copy. A way that can work from within a userscript is to hook and modify the initialization function. For SE, it might be reasonable to hook StackExchange.using or StackExchange.ready.
@scaaahu Interesting. I get "Hey, the upstairs is really awkward, the problem is solved, Jiang Zemin is long lived, this week I want to make a gun." out of Google Translate.

@Makyen the WB site doesn't load SE's regular JS; no StackExchange global. I did consider going all in and hosting a modified copy of the scripts on my server, then getting people to change /etc/hosts :)

:-)

3:07 AM

@ArtOfCode Cool

@Makyen That "making a gun" is a slang meaning make a date (to someone) for f***. This phrase originates from Taiwan (?), I think it eventually spread to mainland. See dict.colla.me/en/word/%E7%BA%A6%E7%82%AE

3:22 AM
@scaaahu So, the slang is just those two characters together? (i.e. I'd like to add a !!/watch for it). Would you be willing to add a !!/watch, given that you know what it says and I'd just be guessing? If so, please make it in the form of !!/watch \w*[the characters]\w* Replace the entirety of [the characters] with what it needs to be, i.e. not the characters in a [] set.
@Rob I'm with Art on this one. If you don't have edit privileges on the site, I'd mod-flag asking for a revert and bring the R/A edit to their attention, rather than an actual R/A flag. With edit privileges I'd roll it back, and probably fire off a custom mod-flag to let the mods know about the R/A edit. You could submit a suggested edit, but I find that it A) isn't as clean as an actual rollback, and is harder to review; and B) requires 2 people to review it, rather than 1 to rollback.

In North America if you ask for date and say you will produce a weapon it's a very serious threat. It's interesting how things don't translate well across cultures and languages. We need to understand what we type is viewed worldwide and be prepared to answer in North American court if police see what we type and object.

Thanks for explaining, but we (or I) got it. Interesting thing I noticed is that if you add a space between the last couple of letters it translated to bring/think of the artillery (a big gun).

@scaaahu I understand the allusion. I just don't know the language. For instance, I find that Google Translate shows "gun" for both "约炮 " and "約炮". I don't know if the slang needs just those characters, or if it need the phrase "好想约炮". So, I'm not looking for an explanation of the slang, I'm looking for a definitive example (or more than one), that can be used to match other posts that contain the slang.

@Undo Dun dun dun. Hope it went well :)

@Undo Past tense... That means you're done. Congrats. :-) I, also, hope things went well.

Yeah, I think so. The math for "passing the class" works out to like 14% on a final. More interested in "keeping an A", which is a bit harder but still not bad.

4:12 AM
@Makyen Both "约炮 " and "約炮" are bad. "好想约炮" means "I want to make my gun firing so badly". I sincerely don't know how to the definitive way to list it. There are many variations. I don't think I can do what Google can't do. This is the best I could do. Sorry.

@Rob Not recently, but I work on scripts, so every once in a while one goes wonky and does too many requests. Once you're hit a a few times, you work on strategies to make it happen less. It was really bad during one of SE's data center moves, as they, for a few days, had chat under the same aggregate rate limiting umbrella. That made it really easy to trigger the rate limit by just doing some extra stuff.

@Makyen I'd better not. The last one I tried (FIRE) wasn't mobile friendly and was crashing dialogs on SE sites. I understand that a Bookmarklet is different but it's easier just to tap the URL bar, type a few chars and Autocorrect will do the rest. Thanks for the offer though.
