@ArtOfCode If you'd like, metasmoke can send you whether the current user has already posted feedback for a post, then you can hide/show the feedback buttons appropriately.

@SmokeDetector ehhh

@Undo [:28062999] Recorded answer as an NAA in metasmoke.

High rep user blanking out their answer before deleting it.
Maybe few unique chars should have an upper rep limit

What limit do you suggest? We can look at the data, of course... except the search page has no filtering by reason.

1:05 AM
@Sally Well, it definitely shouldn't trigger on a 19k user.
but let me pull some data

and yeah, it really needs search-by-reason.

sd k
10K users with few characters: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/…
(entering "characters" in why field works for this reason)

Those all look like not-spam.

True. But vandalism is still an issue.
Please don't deface your answer. A 14k'er should know better... — Sam Feb 8 at 15:56

503 Service Unavailable @ metasmoke (accessing from Singapore)

oh yay

Anyway, the upper limit is specified here‌, so feel free to edit in some less-astronomical value... I'm out for a while.

k

Huh, new naa flag?
I'll remember that thing.

It almost feels like we need a formal spec of what we want to catch and what we don't.
@AndrewT. Yep. Feeds the orange part of the bars on metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com.
One nice thing: When metasmoke 503's, Smokey can't ping it for the status updates. The cronjob still runs, though, so it sends me an email.
Monitoring for two things for the price of one.

1:16 AM
@Undo cool, and I can access metasmoke again :)

@SmokeDetector tpu-
@Undo We should have an uptime status graph thingy.

@hichris123 For smokey or MS?

I was kind of joking, but since we have the data for Smokey already...
(then again, when metasmoke is down, Smokey would appear down in that)

Well... not really.
No historical data, only last ping time
But that can be fixed.

1:30 AM
@Undo oh, so the data is replaced each ping?

Yeah

@Undo I just registered for metasmoke/review

@AndrewT. done

Thanks!

We kinda did everything yesterday, but at least you'll get the miniprofiler ;)

1:33 AM
Yeah, I noticed it from star wall, great job!

@ArtOfCode I know, right?

You'd think far more legitimate posts have a link there.

That one is almost at "this should be an SE filter" level.

You'd think spambots would have caught on....

@Undo Perhaps that's something else someone should suggest to a CM

@ArtOfCode I might do that.

But then smokey would be out of a job ;_;
Well not really

Our goal is to work ourselves out of a job ;)

And while we're doing that, to find other things that keep us in a job.
Our blacklisted websites is a pretty effective filter too, but that's harder to maintain.

@ArtOfCode Yeah. That works for Smokey because we can afford to be agile.

5:25 PM
I doubt SE has the resources to maintain a list like that.
Hey, they could just let us do it.

Backoff received of 10 seconds.

Internalise the filter, but let us maintain it.
@Undo would it be an idea to mark disabled reasons somehow? Just have a field in the DB to toggle disabled, and gray out the dashboard <tr> for that reason if the field exists?

@ArtOfCode heh. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we got that deal.
@ArtOfCode That'd be an idea, and a good one at that.
I could probably just automatically mark them disabled if they go for an unusually long period of time without any reports.

As long as it didn't require us to restart the entire system each time we add a blacklist entry, it'd be great.

I.e. if the last amount of time is an outlier, it's assumed to be disabled.
@ArtOfCode ... and as long as SE's spam prevention system wasn't running in my closet on a Raspberry Pi :P

5:36 PM
@Undo Yeah, that works too. Run a cron job (whatever the Rails equivalent is) every week to check that. If you have that in a DB field then you can manually disable reasons too.
@Undo I dunno, it's doing pretty well where it is :)
We are half of SE's spam prevention system.
5
OK, not half, but you know what I mean.
Heh. I guess it didn't take much to get me to second place for metasmoke code.

@Undo metasmoke bug: look at the reports by hour of day graph's tooltip
Or is that aggregate?
Yes, it is.
Ignore me :)

@ArtOfCode Average, yeah
It used to... eh... not actually be the average :P

5:45 PM
But to be fair, 14.0714285 + 1 != 15

@ArtOfCode Yeah, I have no idea what that's about.

Should we add copy buffet to the blacklist, or is pattern matching website enough? These spammers only trigger the pattern matching website, so if they change that, then it won't be caught by smokey.

@Undo Or have a toggle last month / all time on the page of reasons, as you have on the graphs page. The retired reasons won't be in last month's data for long.
@Ferrybig Is it "copy buffet" or "copy-buffet"?
Maybe copy[- ]buffet.

I see, just as a regular bad keyword. Makes sense. I'll put it in, easier than going through a PR>
Having multiple reasons is good. More reliable detection, and more confidence for automatic flagging.
Which is strictly hypothetical, of course. Hypothetically speaking, I auto-flagged 1057 posts since January 26.

@Sally I am not good enough with python for a keyword PR, I only managed to add the websites to the blacklist by analyzing how the file looked, and that gave the correct working result. I am a real python noob

They go to the same file, a different list: here github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/commit/…
There is a list of bad keywords, then a list of NWB bad keywords (which are not required to be delimited by word boundaries), then blacklisted sites, and then the regex-fest of "pattern sites"

Not that post again....
