@AncientSwordRage an alternative could be to have them have tics which were very well controlled with medication before the implants, but then have all the brain weirdness that happens after be a major trigger.

@AncientSwordRage maybe? I don't know if my language of "triggers" is a standard thing/experience, just that in some situations where I would otherwise be fine I'm not.

I've had to define to myself what it even means to have tics, what my life can and should look like, how to talk about it... the doctors weren't helping and I couldn't find fiction about people like me.
It's not like there's a support site I could find that wasn't focused exclusively on Tourette's or something similarly more severe
 
It's tough
Except substitute mad for tics
