Q: Are Windows 10 Preview questions on-topic?

damryfbfnetsiAre questions about the Windows 10 Technical Preview (and its twin the Windows Insider Program) on-topic? Given that we have a reputation for closing questions relating to beta software (we even used to have an off-topic close reason used on questions relating to prerelease software and prototyp...

@damryfbfnetsi: meh, you're splitting hairs.
@JourneymanGeek What do you mean?
Do we still custom-close questions about bugs in beta software? Is that still a site rule despite the removal of the close reason? (I once flagged an old question closed under it to be reopened, and the flag was declined by another mod saying that "just because a close reason is removed does not mean that the question is on-topic"). — damryfbfnetsi 5 mins ago

Looking at some of my recent flagging statistics, I can see that a higher percentage of helpful flags I make are spam/offensive flags than in the past. Is it true that we're getting more spam, or do I just have a more watchful eye for it?
1:12 AM
yes
@damryfbfnetsi: Windows 10 Preview questions, just like windows 8 preview questions are on topic
You'd generally close beta questions if they're under things like NDAs and that's been violated
@JourneymanGeek So that question which I was referring to was a misuse of the close reason?
I have no clue what you're referring to.
@JourneymanGeek So closed questions that are about it (and that was the sole reason for the closure) were mistakenly closed?
I am saying that windows 10 preview questions are on topic.
Specific examples, please

SPECIFIC EXAMPLES please?
IE, link or flag them. Since I'm here, the former is a better idea.

Q: Surface display screen stops working after leaving cover on for a long time

damryfbfnetsiI recently upgraded my Surface with Windows RT to Windows RT 8.1 Preview. When I close the Type Cover, the screen shuts down as it should. However, if I leave the cover on overnight, the display screen refuses to turn on, though I can tell that the tablet is on because of the vibration upon tappi...

That was the one I was referring to in that comment on your answer
ahh
meh, older question, resolved
No point in re-opening.
There's a deleted answer on that one; I deleted it because the problem resurfaced after doing that
I think it should be reopened because that problem still happens at times even after updating to the final version (even now)
You're no longer using the preview, right?
Edit the question to reflect that, gimme a poke, and I'll reopen it.
@JourneymanGeek Obviously not; it's expired now
@JourneymanGeek Updated.

However indirectly bringing up something that was closed last year with respect to current policy is disingenuous
@JourneymanGeek So you mean I shouldn't cast recommend closure flags against old software recs that were on-topic at the time of posting?
Generally? I wouldn't encourage looking for them.
Once again NOT THE SAME ISSUE
@JourneymanGeek I usually find them when cleaning tags
And I'd rather fix a software rec than close them.
I mean, asking me about what to do with software recs has nothing to do with preview tags.
@JourneymanGeek After fixing it to meet the guidelines, would you migrate it to SR? (Or is it impossible for mods to migrate to beta sites? I know they can migrate to any graduated site, even if it's not one of the 5 standard paths...)
1:30 AM
Nope
we can migrate, but its discouraged
@JourneymanGeek If it graduated, would you change your mind?
nope
I'd migrate under the same constraints as a graduated site
OP requests, and it meets quality standards.
Okay, I have to leave now

@Mohi Why did you suggest this really bad edit? meta.superuser.com/questions/8586/…
@damry It was an audit...
@hichris123 I want to let users know that the system is making other users think they did really bad things. Then they will contact SE, and then they will publicly outcry it. (But wait; isn't that the worst case?)
... that's not going to do anything.

Q: Stop using real accounts in suggested edit audits

Won'tWell, thanks for making me harass a user over attempting to vandalize a post! Got a flag on a question notifying us that a new, low-rep user submitted a bogus edit suggestion. Okay, so I went and took a look at it. Well, that certainly looks spammy. I then checked out the user's account, w...

A: Stop using real accounts in suggested edit audits

EmmettWoops, that's not good. I suppose we always suspected this would come back to bite us, but perhaps not so spectacularly. Showing fake users on audits is non-ideal, because it creates an easy way to quickly detect audits: Does the display name look fake? Even if not, does clicking the display nam...

@hichris123 Why not just show audits as coming from anonymous user? No usercard is displayed then
Cause its obvious. And if you did audits properly, you'd realise its an evil evil mistress (in the dominatrix sort of way) and dosen't care about petty things like your views towards other human beings.
4:26 AM
@hichris123 Besides, what really happened that you needed to enter this room? Or is the question did instead of what?
@JourneymanGeek No need to be rude.
(look at him, he left the room)

@JourneymanGeek Could you please delete these non-answers?

A: How do I download iTunes podcasts to my iPod?

Pamela ArmThank you so much. This worked perfectly. Even with seven-year old devices! By the way, the 80 or 120 gig iPod classic is still the best for listening to music and spoken word. I just purchased a refurbished one, since Apple isn't making them anymore. The battery lasts for days, no worries about...

A: IDE laptop HDD only recognised in BIOS, what to do?

sagemy friend it sounds like if you can just try to boot it in safe mode or try to boot your computer off of USB see if that will work. If that doesn't work then try the Freezer trick. Again if that doesn't work then you just need a new hard drive.

5:02 AM
@JourneymanGeek Thanks for deleting them! (if you did)
@damryfbfnetsi: in future, kindly flag

@JourneymanGeek I flagged, but I got a little impatient in waiting for the flag's dismissals. I also put the reports here because I've seen another user (@CanadianLuke) do this in the past
@CanadianLuke Guess we don't have a 9.1 or 9.2...
@JourneymanGeek Besides, the flags show up as "helpful" in my flag history, so I assumed you looked at those. I think that those were auto-dismissed after (your) deleting the answers.
@damryfbfnetsi: Well, I haven't checked the flag queue yet
difference is, i check the flags a few times a day, and i check chat periodically or when I get ponged
