Could anyone shed some insight as to why my answer was deleted on this question? The question was vague, so i gavw
gave a link to how to do it.
The moderator apparently did not like my answer, even though it answered the question exactly.
Links are not the best form of answer, bit instead of me just retyping what the site said, i figured that would be best. i have earned several thousand rep by answering questions, and never had a link be deleted by a mod.

A: Are answers that just contain links elsewhere really "good answers"?

devinbI think that links are fantastic, but they should never be the only piece of information in your answer. An analogy would be if you are standing at 100 Main St. and you ask where 98 Main St. is. A good answer would be "It is the next building over". points at building If you instead inc...

It's not that links aren't the best form of answer, they are not an answer at all.

A link can never answer the question exactly – and even if it did, what if the link went offline? The answer would become useless. Note that the question wasn't really vague, and it could be answered in a few paragraphs. Of course we don't want you to retype what you've found on another site in its full extent, but at least giving a fundamental answer here, and posting the link for reference is what we need.
I'm sorry to hear that you thought I did not "like" your answer. Truth is, all answers that do not contain anything except for a link will be deleted if they're flagged or a moderator sees them. That's common policy across all Stack Exchange sites.
Fair enough. For the several months that I have been active on the SE network, I have seen many link only answers pass by.
I didnt thank that it was really a problem. I will rewrite my answer on the post.
@MattClark Sure, don't worry about it. Perhaps you didn't know about the policy.. (it's mentioned here by the way).
You can flag your post for undeletion once you've added some content.
