I'm curious as to why questions like superuser.com/questions/331477/… make it to the "hot questions" list
Shouldnt stuff like this be obvious for the demographic visiting superuser.com?

Short answer: the "hot" label is automatically applied based on activity, not content.

so it could be that someone asks an obvious question, everyone answers it, thus making it a "hot" question
