12:01 AM
I wrote a poem, at one point (14 yrs old), about bad teachers, and one of me lines referred to those who "inflate their egos with the eyeballs of youth" ... There are those who clearly know how to teach well on this site, but some of them also love the adoration (and chase for rep) a bit too much.
^^^Mind you, I had mostly wonderful teachers growing up, and in college, who in many ways raised me. So I hold most educators in high esteem. But not all, and not at all those who don't teach for a living, but are filling a void to be seen as super smart.
OOPs, @quid. I didn't mean to turn this into any Manifesto. Sorry about that. How is your week going?

@amWhy somewhat complicated

@quid In what way? Not trying to push, so you needn't explain if you'd rather not. :-)

@amWhy lots of different things going on. Hard to summarize.

@quid I hope your family is okay? I understand, though, I think. Last fall was extremely complicated for me.

@amWhy yes it's just work related

12:12 AM
@quid Well, that can get complicated, as well! Glad your family is well :-)

@amWhy indeed.
I think I'll leave now. See you and enjoy your evening

@quid Just be sure to take care of yourself: especially getting the sleep you need. A catch-phrase that's picked up her in WI, and elsewhere is "Work smarter, not harder." and getting adequate sleep is one way to foster working smarter, and not harder.
@quid See you, and get a good night sleep! (Yes I can be a nag!)

@amWhy don't worry :-)

@quid :-)

18 hours later…
6:45 PM
Guess what tomorrow is!!!!! ;D

7:08 PM
Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Soviet Political Repressions?

@AlexanderGruber Sure, why not? It's also halloween eve, and .... drum roll ... It's FRIDAY!!!
Why do ghosts go on diets? ...
So they can keep their ghoulish figures. ;D
Why did the ghost go into the bar? ...
For the Boos. ;D

7:26 PM
I think we should all adopt costumes for Saturday! (Either change for one day one's avatar, or dress up your current avatar (e.g., @Alexander Gruber!)

2 hours later…
9:11 PM
Silly question: of sine and cosine, which one is the 'evil' twin and which is the 'good' one?

9:33 PM
@Integrand Clearly the sine function is evil... it likes to sin.

@XanderHenderson But cosine is a full fledged co-conspirator in aiding and abetting sin!
@Integrand I think cosine is an imposter, a wannabe sine, and envious of sine!!!

This discussion makes me worry about how a category theorist might give directions...
"First, you want to get onto the 40 heading co-East. You'll get off at exist 290, and turn co-right at the light at the bottom of the exit ramp."

@XanderHenderson Ha! ;D

To a category theorist, a u-turn is "go co-forward".

@XanderHenderson Isn't that illegal many places?

9:49 PM
Probably. But not everywhere.
And I've never lived in a place where making a co-straight turn is illegal in general (though it is illegal in certain intersections where it is signed as such).

@XanderHenderson Just joking. Anyway, thanks for your actions on a no longer existent meta post! :-)

Oh, the author deleted it. Great! That saves me some trouble and/or controversy.

@XanderHenderson :-)
There are many places to search for "The Great Pumpkin". I recommend watching it tomorrow or Saturday!
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a 1966 American prime time animated television special based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz.A Halloween special, it was the third Peanuts special (and second holiday-themed special, following A Charlie Brown Christmas) to be produced and animated by Bill Melendez. The special features music composed by jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi, whose contributions include the theme song “Linus and Lucy”. It was also the first Peanuts special to use the titular pattern of a short phrase, followed by "Charlie Brown", a pattern which would remain the norm...

sine is the imposter: the chebyshev identities involve only cosines for cos(kx) but have sines and cosines for sin(kx) if k is odd

Earth to @quid? Earth to @quid ...
@Integrand :P Who's the imposter: cotangent or tangent?

10:04 PM
@amWhy that is trickier. OTOH, i do like when things are defined at zero; OTOH, i think cotangent is more fundamental in complex analysis than tangent, and the two are equally important in combinatorics [this is a very crass argument, largely out of ignorance]
so probably cotangent but by less

@Integrand One final question: which is the imposter, cosecant or secant??

secant sus, vote it out

@Integrand Hah! ;D

whoops, meant to say tangent. so basically, co > \{\} when it comes to prefixes

@amWhy I am over the moon. :-)

10:12 PM
@quid I didn't know you were an astronaut!? Just joking. Good to see you!
@quid You want to weigh in our discussion about which is the evil one, or imposter, among sine and cosine?

@amWhy that's a tangent

@quid :P ;D
What day is it tomorrow, @quid, and just around the corner for you, within the hour?

@amWhy starts with F?

@quid Yes, indeed! Also, apparently, from @AlexanderGruber, it's "Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Soviet Political Repressions?" Also, it's the eve of [this holiday], celebrated on Saturday this year.

@amWhy I thought Sunday is the holiday, All Saints.

10:25 PM
In India due to death of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on the same day in 1984 this day is being celebrated on 30th October. The first International Thrift Congress which was held in Milan, Italy in 1924 had declared October 31 as the World Thrift day. It's also Nevada Day, and National Frankenstein Day in the US. Also in the US, it's national candy corn day ??, While in the UK, tomorrow is Buy a Donut Day!
@quid Yes, indeed it is. My previous comment to which you responded, was a fill in the blank for the holiday celebrated Saturday Oct 31, which makes Friday, tomorrow, the eve of that holiday.

All Saints Day Eve?
Can a day be the eve of an eve?
If not, I must admit that I am stumped.

11:19 PM
HALLOWEEN on SATURDAY OCT 31, which is the eve of All Saint's Day, but tomorrow (today wrt @quid), is the eve of Halloween! @Xander!
