12:33 AM
@amWhy: I can reuse the word LATHE from a previous word game.
CATTLE, CHATTEL
And there is HOOCH
CAHOOT
I wonder how you all forgot TEACH which is linked to your profession.

@ParamanandSingh Good job with all those hits!
@ParamanandSingh Funny that I found CHEAT but not TEACH :/

@amWhy: I use them like : don't teach to cheat!!

@ParamanandSingh Indeed!

12:53 AM
There is a nasty word LECH too and a similar cool word is LATCH

@ParamanandSingh Has anyone mentioned EACH yet?

@amWhy: omitting the obvious is a feature of word games

ETCH
ACHE

@AlexanderGruber: just to check if you have returned from the woods (you were making some sort of cabin there)?

TOOK LACE TACT

1:02 AM
@amWhy: the word CLOTH is already there but we make its verb: CLOTHE

3 hours ago, by amWhy
@Measureme CLOTHE

Ooppppsss
Sorry then we can use TAKE based on your TOOK

How about TOKE?

By the we all missed the fact that there is no K allowed @amWhy

OOPS!
Well, perhaps we have HOT CHOKOLATE? Just kidding!

1:10 AM
@amWhy: I asked AlexanderGruber a question and he left the room. I need to be extra careful when interacting with mods.

@ParamanandSingh He may have simply signed off from the site prior to that; there is often a delay after logging off, and one's gravatar leaving chatrooms.

1:25 AM
@amWhy: thanks for letting me know. I thought my message prompted him to leave. Maybe I thought too much.

1:36 AM
@ParamanandSingh nah-- just wasn't around. i use chat from my phone a lot. i've heard from others that it keeps me logged on.
@ParamanandSingh i'm still out here. Just finished hewing most of the beams and built a log skid to move them. next is cutting the joinery.

1:55 AM
@AlexanderGruber: you are enjoying nature to the fullest extent and I am confined mostly to my house made of concrete. :(

@ParamanandSingh concrete buildings always depressed me growing up. schools were always white cinderblock walls.
though I like brutalist architecture now

@AlexanderGruber : That's a new term "brutalist architecture" for me. I did check the Wikipedia for this and found that this style is also used in India. But as far residential buildings here are concerned they are all made of bricks and concrete. In the hilly areas one may find some wooden houses and but not so much in plains.

2:21 AM
@ParamanandSingh what part of india are you in?
i've never laid brick. I did pour concrete a few times back when I was a student but i have no idea how to do masonry. It would be cool to learn to carve stone.

2 hours later…
3:57 AM
@AlexanderGruber: I live in northern part of India. My town "Greater Noida" is around 60 kms (translate into miles urself) from "New Delhi", the capital of India. The only problem with brick laying is that bricks are heavy. Apart from that you need to lay them in straight lines both horizontal and vertical.

@ParamanandSingh ahhh, nice. It must be pretty dense there, are y'all on covid lockdown?

5:01 AM
@AlexanderGruber : well there is lockdown in some areas so it's partial. But I don't venture out of my house unless absolutely necessary.

5:42 AM
Unless I miscounted we can get TOOTHACHE.
HATCHET

Wow @JyrkiLahtonen for toothache

1 hour later…
7:22 AM
@ParamanandSingh yeah, about the same here
@JyrkiLahtonen i feel like you'd murder me at scrabble

1 hour later…
BLM
8:25 AM
@ParamanandSingh hello! We dont live very far

2 hours later…
10:23 AM
@BLM: you are in NCR (National Capital Region)? Also it appears from your profile that you have a PhD. Is that for real in some subject and not like you mention in profile?

5 hours later…
BLM
3:31 PM
@ParamanandSingh no no, that was a lame joke ;)
i am still a student
i live in NCR but about an hour's drive from Delhi

Good morning @amWhy 🍩🥛

@user132081 Good morning!

1 hour later…
5:01 PM
Nice job, all around, on yesterday's word search.
@JyrkiLahtonen Very nice! Close to an anagram, with only one o and one a and one c remaining unused.

@amWhy A CO-TOOTHACHE (this is what you have after going to the dentist, I guess)

@XanderHenderson Hah! ;D
Any ideas for a word challenge to post tomorrow, Friday?
To all: Feel free to suggest a word; I can, alternatively, find such a word.

5:26 PM
@amWhy What about the longest word in English? pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

@an4s We'd never be able to end in any reasonable about of time! ;D

They say that linear algebra is everywhere, so may be UBIQUITOUS?
Don't know if it is a good word for this game. There is BISQUIT but...
... if Harry Potter -world counts then SQUIB

5:53 PM
@amWhy Exactly! A word game that lasts forever!

@JyrkiLahtonen OUST, BUST, QUIT, BOUT, STUB, SUIT

Sorry all, I misspelled BISCUIT. /Shameface. Score penalty.

6:12 PM
@JyrkiLahtonen No problem! It reminded me of a biscuit/pancake mix sold in the US called Bisquick!

3 hours later…
9:04 PM
@JyrkiLahtonen: you have chosen a tough word. I can't manage anything beyond the obvious BITS and pieces.

9:16 PM
@amWhy: it turns out that QUIB is a word

9:34 PM
Also we have the phrase "Let's call it QUITS"

9:59 PM
@ParamanandSingh Aha! Nice observation!

@JyrkiLahtonen Isn't a squib a small explosive used in film SFX to simulate a bullet hit?
A squib is a miniature explosive device used in a wide range of industries, from special effects to military applications. It resembles a tiny stick of dynamite, both in appearance and construction, although with considerably less explosive power. Squibs consist of two electrical leads, which are separated by a plug of insulating material, a small bridge wire or electrical resistance heater, and a bead of heat-sensitive chemical composition, in which the bridge wire is embedded. Squibs can be used for generating mechanical force or to provide pyrotechnic effects for both film and live theatrics...

@ParamanandSingh Indeed. To this day I believe when @quid registered and first entered his user name, he meant to write quib, but posted a typo, quid. Else he's dyslexic and confused quib vs. quid! ;D Just joking here

Hi @amWhy :)

@ZionWilliamson Hello! How are you?

10:14 PM
@amWhy I'm ok :(

@ZionWilliamson Were you formerly user132081 ?
I recognized the academia.se parent site.

Does he like chocolate donuts? ;)
And does he work at Starbucks?

@ZionWilliamson Doesn't sound to promising with :(

@ZionWilliamson Hmm, what a coincidence!!

10:17 PM
haha ...
@amWhy how've you been?
zion is a basketball star, btw -- my real name isn't that cool :(
@amWhy I'm going to work for a math magazine, with my master's thesis advisor :)
not sure what I'll do yet?
handle their social media? reach out to professors for interviews? edit article submissions? hmm ...

Not too bad. I always struggle a bit more in winter, during the two months with the least sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere. Just in that I get tired more easily.

Me too @amWhy

@ZionWilliamson Sounds promising!

have you ever gotten a blood test to check your Vitamin D levels? Mine for winter are pretty low. I'm supposed to supplement, but I hope drinking lattes and hot chocolates will help?
@amWhy Thanks!
@amWhy my mentor told me this the other night: that the classical applied math that I love to do, following their work, and a few others, isn't wise, because only a few places can thrive doing that sort of thing. And, these days, he's not well-funded.
It saddens me ...

@ZionWilliamson If made with fortified milk. Yes, I've started vitamin D supplements again.

10:25 PM
@amWhy ah, nice :)
My doctor also told me to get 30 mins of sunlight a day, in the winter ...
Something about Vitamin D from the sun, and produced by our bodies, lasting longer than other forms of Vitamin D ... I forget the details ...

@ZionWilliamson Wow, my doctor told me to get a sun lamp with a minimum of 10,000 lux, to ensure daily exposure.

Oo I see

@ZionWilliamson Indeed.
@ZionWilliamson Some models are table top lamps that fit on desks. I used my former using for an hour each day, mornings, when I was replying to emails, reading the news, or writing.

I see
did it help make you less tired / more energetic?
@amWhy I'm going to revise an article one last time and submit it to my professor, so I'll be back later :)
Need a donut and hot coffee too :)

@ZionWilliamson Yes it did. Take care, and enjoy your donut!

10:34 PM
You know what's weird, I get free food and coffee at Starbucks, but I rarely take advantage of it -- I spend my money at the local coffee shops :)
Thanks!
Talk later @amWhy

@amWhy so quib is a just an archaic quip is a quid an archaic quit?

1 hour later…
