FYI: This is a DeWalt DCF887. It's pretty easy to control it in mode 1, which is intended for driving small screws, but for larger applications, I need to use modes 2 or 3 and it's hard to achieve the level of trigger control needed to properly drive the screw without damaging the work piece.
(have used a drill/driver for years to put in screws, often with the clutch to limit torque, and finally stepped up to an impact driver)
