@CaptainBohemian hello!

what's your phone? @CaptainBohemian
or would you rather not say
continuing off this comment of yours
@Arjun hi there :)

@CalvinKhor , hi

user434058
Hi @CalvinKhor What happened to Let's Talk about Physics?

user434058
I don't see any evidences of any new unacceptable activity?

7:22 AM
@CalvinKhor REDMI NOTE 8T

@FakeMod it was frozen for consistently generating problems despite numerous mods stepping in. I don't know if it was new unacceptable behavior, I think the previous mods were being quite kind to us and one of the mods thought differently

user434058
@CalvinKhor alright, makes sense. Thanks!

@CalvinKhor , forget it, let's not do it here
we can continue our discussion tho
;)
@CalvinKhor, ted sir suggested me a wonderful book an algebra
thanks to you and him

We will be following the main Mathematics chat rules here. Please speak in english if you can, so that everyone can understand you. I will be kicking people at the first sign of trouble, hopefully I won't need to do it often. Jokes are fine, but try not to post things that are provocative (e.g. please do not post about supernatural people with magnetic skin ;) )

@Arjun what book?
sounds exciting

@CalvinKhor ,lol

7:31 AM
oh, i've never read that book. let me see the contents page...

@CalvinKhor , i'll have to spend my this month's pocket money to buy it :(

hm. Is that a legal link to the book? If its not, can you remove that comment?

@CalvinKhor , legal

how do you know?

in my country
i know

7:34 AM
thats not very convincing lol

well, delete it, i dunno about other countries

sorry :)
but it looks like its a classic book. (Artin's Algebra)

no worries, it was for u
@CalvinKhor , calvin being a nice room keeper ;-)

looks like it does linear algebra too

@CalvinKhor ,yep

7:37 AM
@CaptainBohemian does it have the anti-blue light thing? like f.lux?

@CalvinKhor I don't know. How to check that?

i think what would be great is you do it mainly on computer, but if you decide you need to work while you're not near your computer, then you can also do some small changes on the phone
i think you can do it via your app store? look for f.lux? Or try opening justgetflux.com on your phone?
I've never used an android phone seriously, sorry. someone else know how to help?

but I need to read a number of literature.

@CaptainBohemian ,which ones

7:42 AM
yeah reading papers seriously on a phone, that sounds not great

I think it's convenient to read on phone when I am waiting for food in restaurant-sometimes the waiting time is really long.

@CaptainBohemian , i agree

I can't do it, maybe for the abstract and introduction
but i need to print it and scribble all over the paper
to really understand

@CalvinKhor I haven't printed a paper to read for long as I have no access to a printer - printing in convenience store is very expensive.

yo

7:47 AM
I only print papers when I can access printing freely.

@satan29 hello!

whatsup guys?

@CaptainBohemian yeah its harder now, havent been to my office in a long time....but i don't understand why, paper just works so much better. I try to do it for important papers only

@satan29 ,help me with this bro,math.stackexchange.com/posts/3683318/edit

Let Z=R(cos(a)+isin(a))
|z| is R

7:50 AM
@satan29 , oho, edit the post

@Arjun for my research in gravity.

you linked to an editing page?

@Arjun bruh

all 19 answers of this user are in worst formatting possible
@satan29,
how do we write i cap vector?

lol
what are you asking for help with? should I vote to delete as 'not an answer'?
@Arjun do you mean $\vec{v}$?

7:53 AM
@CalvinKhor , that's your choice
@CalvinKhor , i mean that unit vector

@Arjun $\hat{i}$

$\hat\imath$

@satan29 , thanks

dollar \hat{i} dollar lmao

unit i shouldnt have the dot, same with j ${\hat\jmath}$
although no one really cares

Have you visited a mental counsel for a problem disturbing you? @CalvinKhor

no, a doctor gave me some brochures but i never went @CaptainBohemian
my thinking was: im not good at talking so i didnt think it would be useful
looking back, it probably would have been a good idea

Which kind of doctor would give that kind of brochure? I mean when encountering an event which disturbs you, not mental disorders.

it was a general purpose doctor, they reccomend specialists

I also need to see a specialist, because a generalist I saw could not solve my problem.

@CaptainBohemian , what is it?

9:58 AM
i need to leave for about 1 hour, sorry

@CalvinKhor , enjoy

be good! lol

1 hour later…
11:13 AM
back

I am sleepy. I feel hard to sleep sometimes.

hard to sleep now?
do you take naps in the middle of the day?

It's just nightfall now and I am in a shop.

jump a little, get the blood flowing until you reach home

I didn't go to bed until well after sunup this morning, then l waked after around 4 hours and could not fall asleep, then I fell asleep until over 1pm. Then I feel sleepy now after a meal.

11:29 AM
thats no good :/
what were you doing up so late
so...early?

Wrote that summary

@CalvinKhor

oh haha well at least you. did something

Q: How can I do my philosophy privately and independently?

KnightI'm an Indian currently in class 12th which means after this year I shall be able to enter university. I'm 16 years old. I want to do philosophy without anyone and the main reason being alone is that I can't get any good university. I just want to leave my academics now and I know my parents will...

@Arjun
what about?

11:33 AM
open it pls

philosophy.SE?
I did, what about?

@CalvinKhor ,look at author
of question

what about?
I saw it

@CalvinKhor , he says i am indian

@Arjun, I know

11:34 AM
and knight says i am not
i am confused

Please ask him to clarify, I don't want to speculate

anyway i like the question, so an upvote from me
@CaptainBohemian, get some sleep

I don't have enough rep to vote, and I have no intention of joining phil.SE

Do you think that webinar would ask participants to talk?

no, doubt it
as in, i doubt people would be asked to talk
oh, is it soon?
i forgot

11:37 AM
@CaptainBohemian ,we'll find out

does someone have the link?
i didnt sign up, i guess i can try now

I want to write an institute l am not really affiliated with in the registration.

sure
i dont think they care
ill put no affiliation and see what happens

i lost the link
@CaptainBohemian, please share it

11:43 AM
@CaptainBohemian thanks!

@CaptainBohemian , ;;;;;;)
@CalvinKhor, what do double factorials signify
i saw (-1)!!=1

n!! means you go down by 2 integers instead of by 1
so for example $3!! = 3\times 1$
$8!!=8\times6\times4\times2$

what about -ve integers?

I don't know
Well OK I do sort of know, but I can't tell you anything further without thinking
basically, you can express !! in terms of the usual factorial

@CalvinKhor , then how/
?

11:47 AM
once you do that, you can convert to a gamma function and then you get the values at lots of other points also
let me try
the details of this, I don't know, i have not used !! in many years :)

@CalvinKhor ,yes

well i suppose another thing you can do
is you use the recurrence
$n!! = n(n-2)!!$
normally you use this to go to higher n but you can also use this to go further down

@CalvinKhor , should that be n(n-2)!?

no, n!! = n(n-2)(n-4)...

@CalvinKhor , ohk
where do we use this?

11:53 AM
so if you set n-2=-1 i.e. n=1 we get (-1)!! = 1!!/1 = 1
i don't know, i guess it would count some silly combinatorial thing

thanks

np!
@NoseBleed hello! i see you changed your picture again lol

@CalvinKhor , shouldn't that be np!!?

lmao

Why heat is zero while inserting a dielectric in capacitor. I searched on Physics se but didn't understand

11:57 AM
alright thanks, need to figure out dinner...
@SMSheikh hello. No clue

Hi!!

I have never studied physics of this type, so I can't help on this

12:13 PM
No problem

3 hours later…
2:59 PM
yo

2 hours later…
4:40 PM
what exactly happened to "lets do some physics"?

7 hours later…
11:51 PM
@satan29 hi :) What is publicly available is exactly what I know, since most flags were raised when I wasn't around (and when I was around the information is revealed in the that room's transcript). Suffice to say, at least one mod decided the room had to be frozen, so we need to try to be better
