I answered an old question - it only had one answer. I'd like to bounty it b/c I believe the old answer overlooked something and that the information presented is worth drawing attention to as relevant to the question asked should other people go digging. I realize this will cost rep that I can't recover from my own bounty, is this 'okay'?

I wouldn't think you can award a bounty to your own answer (assuming that's what you meant)
> You can award the bounty to any answer posted by anyone else

No no, I mean is it okay to bounty a question I've answered for the sake of drawing attention to a more correct answer, even if that answer is my own? I understand that I can't be awarded my own bounty no matter what, I'm just asking if my reason for adding a bounty is acceptable.

Q: How does the bounty system work?

A. RexIt's possible to offer and award bounties of reputation on questions. What is a bounty? How can I find questions that have a bounty attached? How do I start a bounty? When can I start a bounty? Why is the system requiring me to choose a bounty amount that's higher than the minimum? Can I use Ma...

I see how it could be considered 'promotional' even though I stand to lose more than gain out of it.
but it's "Drawing attention"
I"m not trying to get my own bounty. I believe the answer given overlooked something important and have presented the only other answer that points that out.
That link suggests that the increased cost is to discourage 'promotional' bounties but doesn't elaborate on exactly what that means.
if promotional means for self-benefit, then it's not that, b/c I don't think the question will get so much attention that it will offset the bounty.

I assumed wrong then, no worries :)

I phrased poorly, I'm not so much defensive as wanting to clearly explain my question for a solid answer. Basically, I'm trying to observe 'etiquette'
But this particular line is a little vague.
If promotional means "draw attention to your own answer," well, I happen to be doing that, as well.
Because it's the only other one
And the other answer has 2 votes and is from ... 2015

Without going into the actual stuff around a bounty, I'd like to address a few other points first

Please. Asked to learn. :)

Assuming I'm reading it right, you seem to spending a lot of words to correct a minor technical point in the other answer which doesn't actually change the answer (the clarification on speed and movement)

It changes a major assumption about the outcome of the answer, which is how far you can actually jump during the round (your movement speed stat, versus your total movement)
Depending on effects like dash (common), haste (semi-common), boots of striding and springing, step of the wind, etc.
this can result in dramatically different jump distance totals.

As a general notion, answers should read well irrespective of other answers, which I don't quite get from yours

That's absolutely fair, I should definitely try to edit it to be more self-sufficient then.

@TheFallen0ne My point was the old answers mixes those terms, you'll see they describe the Dash action as increasing the speed
@TheFallen0ne I'd also say that quoting the rules section in block as your opening doesn't read well either, as a reader I have no idea what in there is relevant or you'll be using for your argument
Quoting the whole rule section for something usually comes up when showing a negative, and isn't necessarily great there either

I see where my misunderstanding lies. I read the statement in step one > Determine your movement speed. This is also your maximum jump height (distance).
Following that I misread him to be implying that maximum never changed.
I also see the broader point you're making but I wanted to understand where I went wrong here specifically, too.
Gonna go delete my answer. :)
I only quoted the entire passage because I felt it was short enough to be included and demonstratively reinforce that a maximum jump distance isn't actually mentioned, which was the crux of what I thought was a major oversight.

But a maximum arises when you can't jump higher than you have movement for
FWIW it's quite possible an edit to that A is warrented, the way it uses the terms certainly seem to have thrown you off :)

Yes. I wasn't denying the natural flow of logic there, I mistakenly thought a hard cap maximum based on your movement speed statistic was being discussed, which wouldn't explicitly change when you dashed- you'd have twice the available movement but your "Jump Maximum" hasn't changed. That's not what was meant and I see that on a second reading.

If anyone wants context and/or can find a good way to make that edit:

Q: How high can a PC jump given the following constraints?

daze413My Grappler Bard player wants to do a Seismic Toss and I want him to achieve this. My question is, how high can a PC jump when grappling a medium-sized creature, given the following constraints: using only PHB & EE spells using DMG magic items Yes, I am aware that the fly spell would be more ...

@TheFallen0ne No worries, that happens sometimes and we've sure seen more effort thrown after a smaller misread

I'm not sure how I'd word it differently myself now that I see what's being claimed beyond a minor context edit like "you can't jump farther than you have movement to spend." It's verbose, but the nature of my confusion is that "maximum jump height" read like a statistic (to me), not a limit.
I may have honestly just had a dumb moment.
And misunderstood something obvious. It's been known to happen. ^.^;
I appreciate the feedback, either way! :)

That's what we're here for :)

Q: Can a halfling use a pole of collapsing as a makeshift elevator?

AmbientFireThe Pole of Collapsing (Xanathar’s Guide to Everything) states that: While holding this 10-foot pole, you can use an action to speak a command word and cause it to collapse into a 1-foot-long rod, for ease of storage. The pole's weight doesn't change. You can use an action to speak a different c...

Q: I'm trying to turn Nezuko (from Demon Slayer) into a Vampire in a Dark Ages setting. What would be the best build for such an NPC?

ColonizeroftheSunSo I'm trying to turn Nezuko, from Demon Slayer, into a Vampire in a setting in the Dark Ages. She's basically Nezuko but transplanted to another setting. I'm currently using "Vampire the Masquerade - Dark Ages 20th Anniversary edition" and don't want to use anything beyond that. As a result if I...
