5:00 PM
@Yuuki I could make one xD

@kviiri I know just enough to recognize it as Swedish, that's about as far as I got.

@Yuuki Morality originalist (Christian edition): Good is what the disembodied voice says and evil is what the soon-to-be legless creature says

But if so, the root swedish word for evil is rebel. Huh.

> Lawful Good: "Respectable and considerate use of alignment mechanics to enhance our story!"
> Neutral Good: "Alignment or no alignment, friendship comes first!"
> Chaotic Good: "Let's ditch alignment and focus on building personalities together!"
> Lawful Neutral: "Alignment's in the rules, you must choose."
> True Neutral: "I'll just pick one and forget it."
> Chaotic Neutral: "It's what My Chaotic Neutral Guy would do!"
> Lawful Evil: "Your character wouldn't do that."
> Neutral Evil: "It's what My Chaotic Neutral Guy would do!"

@Rubiksmoose Legolas was not evil! Oh wait...legless...carry on.

5:04 PM
@JohnP The original joke chart about sandwiches uses "Purist" and "Rebel", not "Good" and "Evil".

@Yuuki Which is basically "Lawful" and "Chaotic" respectively

@Yuuki ah. I see.

Yeah, the Swedish one doesn't make moral judgments --- explicit ones, at least ;)

@kviiri Pasta bolognese is semlor.
Huh, I just got a text message from the Swedish embassy. I wasn't aware you could get declined for visas that you haven't applied for yet.

@Yuuki :D

5:07 PM
@Yuuki It certainly saves you a lot of time ;)

Swedes are fun and efficient!

Q: What exactly is a fey/fiend/celestial spirit?

NathanSA few spells mention using spirits, specifically fey, fiend or celestial spirits, usually regarding summoning them to take the form of another creature. A few examples are listed below: Conjure animals (PHB, p. 225): You summon fey spirits that take the form of beasts and appear in unoccupie...

5:39 PM
dang it, @Xirema! You're a faster typerer

@goodguy5 Software engineer. 8)

me too!
Though, my answer includes class options

@goodguy5 me three.
The developers dilemma - "My code doesn't work, I have no idea why". Soon followed by "My code works...I have no idea why"

Back when I was in school I used to get really competitive in typing classes.

Me four but are we alleging Xirema copy pasted his answer from Stack Overflow?

5:51 PM
I got competitive in a lot of places, really.

@JohnP "I have an idea... my code doesn't work."

@kviiri lol, I'm trying to imagine how a D&D question could be trojan'd into a legitimate question on SO.

@Xirema I'm pretty sure there's something you can make a Turing machine out of in D&D.

Or how a completely unrelated software question could result in an answer that's lexically identical to what I posted. XD

@Yuuki I have no idea, but my code works!

5:53 PM

@Xirema We had only one typing class, ever, and as a part of it we had a speed test that involved both normal typing and "how to get special characters outta yet keyboard". I lost to a kid from a neo-Luddite family who types with two fingers only and always uses caps lock (instead of shift) for any capitalization.

@JohnP Trunks make everything cute.

The reason being, I was paired with him, and he had the ungrateful duty to read me various symbols to type from a slip of paper (that I wasn't allowed to see). He spent over a minute trying to think what's the name of the currency symbol (¤).

@JohnP You could also replace the caption in the first frame with "how the software development book cover was illustrated".

@Yuuki As opposed to sharks:

5:55 PM

I wonder if anyone has ever made a homebrew sharkrhino for a campaign...

@Yuuki Magic Mouth. It's come up before.

To be fair to the poor Luddite kid though; I have never seen the currency symbol being used for its intended purpose outside of Dwarf Fortress. It was introduced to us as "sun symbol" during the class and its meaning was never detailed to us. So no wonder it didn't stick in his mind.

6:03 PM
@DavidCoffron Well, it was introduced to us as the "sun symbol" by a teacher who presumably didn't know of its intended use. (Can't blame him, I don't think many people do)

Oh I missed that part
I should read ahead...

I haven't heard of that name in Finnish ever since or before either so I assume it's just something he came up with or heard from someone else who came up with it. Or some recursive construction based on that.

@kviiri If you recur on that enough you end up with people coming up with the pseudonym for the symbol before the symbol itself was invented. Careful with recursion in the real world XD

@DavidCoffron Good catch

@DavidCoffron "The character is sometimes called scarab"
I've never seen this symbol in my life
My sims always spend their § however

6:09 PM
Trying to remember the names of different diacritics is pretty hard
I wonder if people call the "|" a "pipe" outside the IT business

@kviiri You mean likr the Umlaut and the Caron? (I call it a pipe, yes)
Or was it the caret? I'm pretty sure there was also a caron that's not a demon.

quick, what do you call #

Caret sounds familiar.

@kviiri ^
As in ^ is a caret.

^
i agree

6:12 PM
As for #, I've heard "pound sign" and "hash".
As well as "number sign".

Also Sharp, hashtag (among the youths (tm))

An inverted caret is a caron.

@SirCinnamon garden fence

I imagine "hashtag" derives from "hash".

@SirCinnamon In English, a "number sign", but in Finnish it's known as "roundpole fence" (they actually do share a resemblance)

6:14 PM
@Yuuki It does

@SirCinnamon The sharp is different: ♯

@Zachiel not just a "v"?

@Zachiel Not in the c-sharp logo its not! (though actually i didnt know that... i imagine many people dont)

@DavidCoffron no, I mean when it's placed above a letter. E.g.: ě

@Zachiel Ah. gotcha

6:16 PM
@SirCinnamon you mean the see-sharp

@SirCinnamon So its actually c-hash...

> However the ECMA 334 standard states: "The name C# is written as the LATIN CAPITAL LETTER C (U+0043) followed by the NUMBER SIGN # (U+0023)."
LATIN CAPITAL LETTER C-NUMBER SIGN is my fav programming language
2

@Zachiel It's one of the few diacritics my language actually uses, or more accurately, used to use. It was at one point used with s to annotate the IPA sound ʃ

@SirCinnamon LCLCNS is pretty fly

nowadays its recommended to just use normal s, or sh which is far more common

6:17 PM
@kviiri this saddens me

We have ä, ö and å too but they're not considered diacritics but wholly separate letters

When I was in middle school I used to replace my "th"s with "θ"s because I thought it was smart xD (my teachers disagreed)

I love the diacritics on my keyboard: ìèéòàù
@DavidCoffron I would make a pun on FORever and ever, but when I try to get the ASCII multiplication symbol, ₧ appears instead and I have no idea how to fix it.

@Zachiel yea, I just use the alt codes

@goodguy5 I need to use those for capital accented letters (everybody writes E' but it should be an accent... and my alt-code types ╘ instead... so angry!)

6:20 PM
This talk has reminded me of a post I saw recently, quoting a wikipedia page in middle english describing "frogges"
> A frogge ben a wee beeſt wiþ foure legges, þe whiche liveþ boþ in water and on lond. He ben broun or grene or yelwe, or if he be tropical, he may be dyuers coloures. He haþ longis and gylles boþ. He haccheþ fro an ei and he þen be a tadpolle. He groweþ to be a frogge, if he be nat eton.

I also love the Thorn ♥

no love for the long S?

@Zachiel if 0233 is é, then I assume that I can add 26? no.... sutract 26? Ï? no. 0201?!É

Imagine if Twitter used the numero instead.
№WhatCouldHaveBeen

I have é and ü memorized, I I can use them as benchmarks and make my way to either side, as needed.

6:24 PM
№PleaseStop
№MoreHashtags

@SirCinnamon Not as much as for the Thorn.
@goodguy5 It should be Alt+212
@Yuuki №MoreNumerotags

I just use a USA-International keyboard for most of the diacritics.

@Zachiel For 212 I got ╘ like you did

Composing characters is convenient and intuitive.

@DavidCoffron But I got É for 0201

6:27 PM
@DavidCoffron well that's a problem. New ASCII table, I suppose.

@DavidCoffron ALT-0212?

þat is unfaiere

@Yuuki No, just 212

@DavidCoffron Ô

Don't the "extendended ASCII" vary between countries?

6:28 PM
I've always had to put a 0 in front.
╘ is 212
Ô is the o

@Someone_Evil It should be basic ASCII and the PC is set to work with an Italian keyboard and the IT-it language

(Though sadly it lacks the haček and the hōrizōntal line. Those have to be alt-putted-in.)

@goodguy5 those are two different codes, the one with the 0 in front is hexadecimal or something

Fun tangent, ALT-8675309 gives me φ.

@Yuuki Is that the value of φ?

6:29 PM
me too! φ

5309 = ╜ (for me)

@Zachiel Just search "8675309" on Google.

Isn't that Jenny's number?

@Someone_Evil Sort of, hence Unicode/UTF-8 becoming the "new standard"

what are these things FOR anyway? ╘

6:32 PM
@goodguy5 Drawling tables in Lexicon. ^_^

@goodguy5 Making little demons: ╘.v.╛

┌─┬┐ ╔═╦╗ ╓─╥╖ ╒═╤╕

@Someone_Evil Not only do extended symbol sets vary between countries, sometimes there's several for the same state and language. E.g. Russian used to have the Keyrus set and some other set in the MS-DOS era.

oh dear that doesnt work without monospaced font

@DavidCoffron But actually apparently for Box Drawings:

6:33 PM
and chat stripped the spaces down

Similarly, those pre-unicode but Windows-era variants coexist for the same language. Like Windows-1252 (or at least IIRC it's 52 and not some other number) and KOI8-U.

Unicode is the only good standard because it has emojis 🥵🥵🥵🥵

@SirCinnamon /me stares at the four identical rectangles.

@SirCinnamon I got 4 ☐s
(but not that box, the error box thing)

I intentionally used a cutting edge emoji from unicode 11
can you see 😃😃😃

6:36 PM
@SirCinnamon Yeah

oh the chat actually strips that one

I see some smileys

Me too

those ones have text based fallbacks

6:37 PM
do you see colour or b+w?

the latter

🤠🤠🤠
squares?

0024
dang

I see the last 2
In colour

all three are in color for me, but I have an emoji chrome plugin

6:39 PM
🥵 <- newest
🤠 <- middle
😃 <- oldest

newest is a box

I get newest and middle as a box

Same here, although I think my laptop displays those right

@SirCinnamon only newest is a box for me

this is the real cutting edge: 🙅‍♂️
the emoji standard includes a ZWJ character (zero width joiner) which allows you to combine multiple emojis into a new meaning: Man+ZWJ+School = Male Teacher
it's neatly backwards compatible because if you dont have the newest set that includes the specific "teacher" glyph, you get a man and a school which is at least similar in meaning

6:44 PM
I see all of these emoji. Firefox, and I think I'm a version behind

Firefox might have Unicode 11 built in, I don't believe chrome does

Re the inputting conv above: putting the 0 before the number means you are entering unicode, which is (probably) different to your local eASCII. Also note, base ASCII is 7-bit so only goes up to 127 (which is tilde)

dat 8th bit, tho

Q: How do I display the latest Unicode characters (esp. emoji) in Windows browsers?

endolithNone of my browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE) display characters for Unicode 7, 8, 9 (or 10) emojis: These are often sent to me by people on phones. Unicode 6 characters are supported, but hard to read/differentiate: How do I add support for these characters to a Windows 7 system? Is ...

@SirCinnamon Yeah I got school male

6:48 PM
I do have Greasemonkey installed but I'm pretty sure FF has added Unicode since their FF Quantum update a year or so ago

👨‍🏫
Good for FF
i wish chrome would do better in that respect - and discord too

@SirCinnamon human books?
and theres an apple in there

@DavidCoffron That should be the teacher

ah it is one symbol.
I'm on a work computer so I'm not surprised that its dated

yeah it looks like someone in front of a chalkboard, maybe
it's small

6:52 PM
@G.Moylan Is that a chalkboard? I thought it was 2 books

It will vary with what "font" you have for emojis
i think most have a chalkboard behind the figure

I get this ^

oh interesting
it's Man::School - your icon for school does appear to be an apple and books. I dont recognize the font though

And then I got that earlier ^

Person Saying No::Male

6:55 PM
Huh
@SirCinnamon Oooh for me its a dude crossing his arms:. I didn't follow at all

@goodguy5 That Mark optional rule is interesting.

seems op, right?

Yeah thats semiotically a "Man Gesturing No"

@goodguy5 I mean, you still only get one OA with it.

do you?

7:01 PM
@goodguy5 "The attacker is limited to one opportunity attack per turn"

per turn, right

@goodguy5 oh weird. Because you don't take the OA on your turn...

;)

methinks this is a poorly written optional rule.

@NautArch Most of them are honestly

7:03 PM
@DavidCoffron Much like the introduction of DMsguild :D

When I first read the Mark rule, I thought it was in place of attacks.

like a level 5 fighter could attack once and mark once
@DavidCoffron can't without some hoops\

@goodguy5 Oh yeah. Derp. It is the Honor and Sanity ability scores
> An Honor saving throw comes into play when you want to determine whether a character might inadvertently do something dishonorable. You might call for an Honor saving throw in the following situations:

- Avoiding an accidental breach of honor or etiquette
- Resisting the urge to respond to goading or insults from an enemy
- Recognizing when an enemy attempts to trick a character into a breach of honor

Sanity seems among the most thought out.

7:06 PM
@goodguy5 Yeah it isn't too bad, although I'm weary of "If your players use the optional point-buy system, add 3 points to the number of points for each optional ability you add."
Seems a bit game-able

and huh, I never read any of the text under honor, I just always read it as a "Morality" score that large-scale npc's can refer to

Where are these Mark rules you speak of

@DavidCoffron I mean, one assumes that if you're adding sanity, then you're going to be using sanity... making it an undesirable dump stat
@DavidCoffron dmg271

Man, I really wish folks would add reasonable limiters into their questions so that ridiculous answers (no offense, @DavidCoffron) that aren't realistic can't be submitted.

@goodguy5 An insane paladin could still be passible on their saving throws though
I'd definitely make a MAD character with that optional rule (haha puns)
@NautArch Sorry... I do enjoy ridiculous answers
But I also do enjoy questions that have useful limiters

7:08 PM
@DavidCoffron As you should! They're just not as useful as ones that answer for a wider range of games and situations.

@NautArch I have the Legendary Bundle (owning everything up to but not including Ghosts of Saltmarsh), not a Master Tier subscription. So I was wondering who in the group (if anyone) had a Master Tier subscription so content sharing can work

@V2Blast Oh! I totally misunderstood that.
And looking...i have the master tier.
But that seems to allow contact purchased by people in my campaign(s) to be shared. But not the stuff you have.

@NautArch Should allow his content
Should allow all content owned by anyone in the campaign to be accessed by anyone else

@DavidCoffron DOesn't seem to. I assume CoS is in that?

@NautArch The wierdest thing for me rn is I can open the books under Sources, but not access any of the Details pages

7:16 PM
@NautArch yes it's listed on the marketplace page for the Legendary bundle

@G.Moylan And I definitely get paywall notice.

@goodguy5 Yeah, there's no rule causing current HP to scale to max HP in a relative fashion. There is a rule preventing current HP from being above your max HP. so your current HP is only forcibly decreased by a max HP reduction if the reduction would bring you below your current HP
@DavidCoffron It's pretty clear none of the DMG optional rules got playtested or anything before it was published

@NautArch likewise

@NautArch Try disabling and reenabling content sharing

@NautArch Maybe if you turn off content sharing and turn it back on it will refresh which books are available
@V2Blast Grr....

7:19 PM
lol

when he added me he got Ravnica and didn't have to do that

Can't hurt. one sec.
bahahahahaha
so, i didn't realize content sharing was by campaign.

@NautArch Yeah, you get 3 campaigns

yep yep
you can share content with up to 3 campaigns of up to 12 players each
(the limit of 12 might actually be characters, not players - but I think that's planned to be fixed)

It's enabled now. Enjoy!

7:21 PM
wooo it's working now!

wooooooo

Ok, but real question now. Why was I able to access the sourcebooks still

Interesting observation: if you purchase the new D&D Essentials kit from target you also get a code fo rthe D&D Beyond content
@DavidCoffron yeah and @NautArch got my Ravnica content

@DavidCoffron Hmmm. That's an excellent question. Maybe because I'm sharing my content, but enabling it allows sharing of everyone else's content?
And I was able to access other content because I'm the owner?
like you share with me 100%, But I have to enable sharing to let everyone access?

@NautArch But I still couldn't go to details pages. Maybe they get cached or something? Since I've been in them before the system just assumes I should have access

7:23 PM
i wonder if content sharing is across my campaigns

clearly you are a wizard

@NautArch It should be that every participant in the 3 campaigns you choose can share from other participants in that campaign
So if you made a new campaign, they would get access to your stuff, but not V2Blast's Legendary bundle or G. Moylan's Ravnica stuff
Also, I feel like I should contribute so next week I will be purchasing the 2 newest books for us to add to the pile xD

Hooray! I plan to buy an Essentials kit soon and my content code should grant access to that as well

It's too bad I can't see who has accessed it. Be interesting to see if there's someone who doesn't use it that I could free up.

@NautArch Could just ping them

7:27 PM
@DavidCoffron not all of the names are clear
Just a couple I'm not sure of

@NautArch I completely forgot I had stored my Greave character there xD

Gareff and Trihan
There's also a deleted player, which is interesting.
Character Drudge

I am Garreff

Oh hai!

o/

7:29 PM
okay, that solves that one
Jus tnot sure about Trihan (character Sable Elwynn) and Deleted (character Drudge)

Deleted literally doesn't have a profile anymore, so I would think removing that character shouldn't cause an issue

@G.Moylan I guess I'll hear from someone if they complain :)
does anyone here not currently have access that wants it?

tough crowd

@G.Moylan I think it's just that everyone here doesn't satisfy condition one: "anyone here not currently have access"

@NautArch I'd be happy to jump on
if there is a spot.
(if anybody in the future needs something I'd be happy to jump out again since I have some of the books already)

7:35 PM
@Rubiksmoose I could have sworn you were in there. Teach me to assume

@DavidCoffron I don't think so anyways!

@Rubiksmoose Er, you're in, hoss.

@G.Moylan Nice, been looking at it myself

@Rubiksmoose You've got a level 5 War Mage

Errr yeah, I knew that!

7:36 PM

lol
aarakocra solidarity

Clearly that is an imposter rubiksmoose.

Is tehre anyone else in the actual ToA campaign that isn't in?

@V2Blast [wingbump]

@NautArch Is Shal in there?

7:37 PM
@V2Blast doesn't look like it
i think i've got his email...one sec
@Shalvenay Did you want Dndbeyond access? Looks like I'm freeing up a spot and can get you in.

@Rubiksmoose Is that like doxxing? Revealing to the world your D&D character. They might try to find you in the multiverse

it's fine, the name isn't on there
so nobody can summon them with gate

@anaximander True. "rubiksmoose's character" is definitely a pseudonym
Who here is familiar with Planescape. I've been reading about it recently and it is SOOOO different than I expected for a planar campaign setting
(in a good way)

@anaximander phew, bullet dodged.
@DavidCoffron Twist, that is my actual name.

@Rubiksmoose That would be extremely strange, but there are [stranger naming conventions]()
Can't find the race with the really weird one that I remember....

7:44 PM
@NautArch I wish we would just presume that ridiculous, unrealistic answers are off the table unless otherwise specified, but I think I'm in the minority there.

@MarkWells I mean... You could do what this guy did and just ask for realistic answers:
> Extra clarification: Time and magic items are limited to practical use. Think of it as a game plan for a campaign with a very generous DM.
That led me to ignoring the tomes and manuals and leaving them out until the addendum

7:57 PM
__
I think I'm going to write a short story about the Chatizen characters that are in there rn

@Rubiksmoose Rubik S. Moose.
Alternately, Rubi K. Smoose.
Anyways, doesn't hold a candle to Y. U. U. Ki. The extra U is for extra uvula.

@MageintheBarrel Just as a heads-up, I've looked more closely at that Eidolon - and it really is pretty bonkers. I get that your DM/players have okayed it, but if they aren't as familiar with the rules and understanding balance concerns then you may want to rethink this.
@DavidCoffron Please keep bludfont in! Had to remove him to make room for V2Blast :D

@NautArch As with all overpowered things that your DM has mistakenly allowed for you, use with caution.

@Yuuki Makes for a great business card.

@DavidCoffron oooh

8:11 PM
@NautArch Will do xD

@Yuuki I thought it was Rubiksmoo, SE

@DavidCoffron So far the two martial characters I've made since my Paladin I've had to drop out of the campaigns.

8:47 PM
Coming soon: The Chatizen Raiders of the Tomb of an Eye Elation

1 hour later…
10:06 PM
hey there @nitsua60
@NautArch I don't think I really need it...

@SirCinnamon I call it an octothorpe, since that's it's name :P

10:31 PM
Anyone own the physical Acquisitions Inc. book? I want to check something

Ben
Morning all

@V2Blast They've released that already?

Ben
I dislike Marvel's Avengers because they've just thrown a fork into whatever time travel paradoxes we already have.

came out June 18th
@Ben 'ello 'ello

huh, I might need to make a trip to my LGS then

10:39 PM
Your LGS isn't very F?

Ben
@BESW Fun?

The acronym I usually see is Friendly Local Game Store.

Ben
Ours is. Especially the very attractive girl behind the counter haha
Speaking of which I need to go pickup my Power Ranger Comics

@BESW Mostly that I find four letter abbreviations to be nigh unpronounceable (unless they form a word or wordlike), so I tend to avoid them

@Ben Who's doing Power Rangers these days? Boom!, IDW?

Ben
10:45 PM
@Someone_Evil What, like "fuh-lug-guh-s"? Or "Eff-el-jee-ess"?
@BESW I think Boom! is the series I am following

Cool. I haven't followed comics for a while but I really enjoyed a lot of Boom!'s stuff a few years ago.

Ben
@BESW This particular series I am enjoying because it gives birth to Evil Tommy - the power Ranger that defeats Lord Zedd and takes his place, with the power of both the Green and White Rangers

I loved Lumberjanes, Goldie Vance, Power of the Dark Crystal...

Ben
@BESW If only my mother was interested in Comics. She would love that last one too haha

Hmm I wonder if Destroyer is finished yet.
That was one I felt like I needed to read all at once.

Ben
10:53 PM
Be careful with back-ordering. It comes in parts and not all in order. Haha

oh hi :)

Oh, and Image's Paper Girls. Gotta catch up on that some time.

Ben
@BlackSpike hullo there

hey there @Ben, how're things going?

I wish Yohancé and The Pack were still going as comics....

10:57 PM
@Ben hi
We had a Horror Con this weekend. That's my gf, all Nosferatu!
