The most surprising thing to me is how ineffective flambe is

obviously i didnt think it was a 100% effective method but i wouldn't have pegged it as basically the least effective

@Yuuki It does, but the difference isn't that great. When you're boiling it, both water and alcohol are evaporating. The alcohol doesn't boil away at that much a greater rate.

@Xirema This has been sage-advice'd to mean you need a natural 20 on the die roll itself, yes?

Or does a natural 11 with an attack modifier of +9 trigger the effect?

There probably is somewhere. I think the main confusion is that a lot of groups use "roll" to me the whole thing with everything added up. It is something that causes confusion at my table ocassionally :)
