7:00 PM
@NautArch I love you like a brother ...

can I flag my own post as dupe?

@KorvinStarmast good luck helping on that divine fury question. I've exhausted myself.
@G.Moylan i think so?

although actually the other one needs to be redirected
right?
to mine?

Yeah, i'm that's what I was debating.

ah

7:01 PM
Only because I think i've got a clearer and better supported answer.
But don't I always? :D

@NautArch I'll just be answering in chat to show my reasoning, and if it turns into argument I'll bow out ...
@NautArch Uh, sometimes?

@KorvinStarmast I still don't see how it's not a duplicate. /shrug

@NautArch the most humble, too :P

@KorvinStarmast hehehe
@G.Moylan No one more humble than I!

@NautArch And I am not going to undupe another Q for at least another month, given the mess I made today

7:07 PM
alright well I'm going for a late lunch. I'll return in about an hour to see what's become of me :P

@KorvinStarmast Hmm, with the latest edit on the divine fury, i think it isn't a duplicate. THinking mostly of Monks as th eonly case where it applies that i can think of.
Adjusted my answer and unduped. It's no longer than same question (just with mostly the same answer.)
@KorvinStarmast Although having said, I'd definitely allowing rerolls on GWF with it (but that's because i disagree with wizards on that one.)

@NautArch I know i got heated but that was because i constantly see people misunderstood here and people don't try to understand. I'm sorry for ill feelings in this matter. I do strongly feel that all answers should have links from books also have book page numbers added and links to thing like tweets quoted in text as well for those that are not able to view the links.

7:22 PM
@Eternallord66 No worries! But there is a difference between people constantly misunderstanding vs not trying to understand. This was a strong case of trying to understand by many parties. And my answer to the previously duped does contain both direct quotes, citations, and links. I'm not sure what else you want.
And when we don't understand, I recommend trying to work with us to improve the question language rather than going with the assumption that we're not trying.

I was trying to explain and made several edits and now i see my question was incorrectly made a dupe again

@NautArch monks, do you mean the "melee weapon attacks" thing?

@KorvinStarmast Anything to do with weapon stats

@Eternallord66 does the impact on a critical hit have anything to do with the question? In terms of is that related to what makes this a problem in play?

@KorvinStarmast Martial Arts thing. It specifically says to roll a different die in place of.

7:27 PM
I hope sevensideddie is messing with me because he closed it again when it is not the same as the other question. It does not matter if an answer is related or not. The QUESTIONS are not the same or talking about the same thing

@NautArch Ah, got it! Thaks.

@Eternallord66 unfortunately, I can't undupe. I've already voted to reopen once. But if it makes you feel any better, I don't think it's a dupe anymore.
argh, why can't people utilize the track changes feature in word?

7:48 PM
@NautArch word has a track changes feature?

@Himitsu_no_Yami /facepalm
Yes, yes it does.
And it was even on in the doc I sent someone.
But somehow, they made changes that approving didn't effect.

In my defense I don't really use Word

heh, that's fair then.
But in a business environment, it's fairly standard.

8:16 PM
sigh I'm so friggin tired. Is this what being over 30 is like?

@Rubiksmoose do you have child?

@goodguy5 Thankfully no lol

Well then yes, but it can get worse.

hahaha

@Rubiksmoose wait till kids and over 40. But yeah, this is aging.
And it only gets better worse
I tried my darndest with that divine fury question. Folding.

8:20 PM
@NautArch Goody. It feels like my body and brain are full of bricks. For like the last week. Last night I went to bed at like 9 and fell asleep at 10 and woke up 10 hours later for work and was still tired.
@NautArch Thank you for helping with that. Between my body and work, I did not have the spoons.

@Rubiksmoose hate to say it..but you may be getting sick...
@Rubiksmoose no worries. SSD beat me down, tho :P
It seemed like we could get it differentiated enough to help a user out, but alas.

@NautArch Well if I am (and I keep thinking that as well) then I really hope my body just gets along with it instead of stringing me along.
At least let me be sick enough to not come into work eh? Work with me here body.
@NautArch On first look I disagreed with SSD, though I've found that is not super common. Then looking into it a few minutes later I was seeing what SSD was saying. I'll look into it more later if I can.

Oooh, season 4 Expanse trailer up!
@Rubiksmoose I generally agree with him, I just thought that we'd set up enough of a differentiator to help OP. But it's really twisting it to reopen rather than focusing on the fact that ultimately, it's a dupe. It's just tricky when there is an example of a class feature changing a weapon damage die.
I'm also not sold on elemental weapon changing a weapon damage die, either.

@NautArch Agreed, I think.
Using "think" very generously here.

@Rubiksmoose drink some tea, hoss.

8:31 PM
@NautArch Just finished glass #2 :-/

@Rubiksmoose I'm in my winter drinking hot water mode.
Also debating about rolling back my last edit on that question.

@Rubiksmoose Yea, I often decide to circumvent that by just sleeping for 6 hours. That way when I'm tired, I'm not mad about it.

I think I'll write a meta about my post and the other one, and that whole fiasco. There seems to be a similar issue to what Eternallord was lamenting above, that while some questions may illicit a similar if not identical answer, they are, in fact, not duplicate questions.

9:30 PM
@KorvinStarmast Forge Cleric
@KorvinStarmast Artificer

Artificer ain't RAW yes, it is? Unless UA RAW counts
(grumble grumble Eberron OP bloat grumble grumble)

@KorvinStarmast well yeah, "RAW by UA," if that's a thing :P Forge Cleric, at any rate

My book arrives tomorrow ...
@G.Moylan Yep, forge cleric

I saw the LGS special edition in a store the other day and it's purrrrrty

I'm going to make a slight edit.

also, is the new Tyranny book a revised version of the adventure at all? Like with corrected stat blocks and encounters?

@G.Moylan what is LGS?

Local Game Store

@G.Moylan I hear it is, and I think I may get it just for the heck of it ...
... and because I gave my nephew my original one.
For christmas, I am giving my nephew Epic Dice. :)

all the "special edition" covers are supposed to be only available at brick-and-mortar shops or "your LGS"

9:33 PM
@G.Moylan Aaaaaaaah I had always seen it as FLGS

@KorvinStarmast oh that too
Friendly etc. etc.

Did the new book come out yet?

@Eternallord66 which one?

The new eberron

Eberron is out, yes. Complete with the Lord of Blades!

9:37 PM
@G.Moylan is that Lord of Dance?

@NautArch if you count dancing with knives and swords, then yes
also something something BURNING HATRED OF ALL FLESH-BEINGS oh excuse me...

Lord of blades?

@Eternallord66 he's a particular Warforged from Eberron lore and he got a 5e stat block. If he carried a wallet, it would say "Bad Mother" on it
also something about the purity of machines, how flesh-people are evil, yadda yadda. Robot stuff
He's a cool character, I recommend a search on the various wikis

@G.Moylan PWNED by rust monsters

@KorvinStarmast :(

9:45 PM
@G.Moylan Language please.

@G.Moylan I seem to recall an iron golem back in an early edition game; we had run into some rust monsters on an early level in the dungeon and had webbed them and run off. So the rogue went up and tried to lure them down the stairs so that they'd eat the iron golem .. it more or less worked, the iron golem ran off and the door it was guarding we got through. ...
.. but 5e rust monsters might not be able to pull that off ...

@Rubiksmoose I said Trucker...
@G.Moylan was that too close to the real thing?

@G.Moylan Actually, it was a thief ... we didn't have rogues yet in that edition.

@KorvinStarmast lol that's clever

@G.Moylan ....dang.
Well my appologies. You're good.

9:58 PM
@G.Moylan we did a lot of stuff in OD&D that didn't involve fighting, because treasure XP and not dying were major incentives to outsmart the enemy (and at some tables, that was very much a battle of wits with the DM ...)

@Rubiksmoose ah lol ok I thought maybe it was too similar or something. no worries!

learned how to poke things with a ten foot pole as a Magic User since I had so few spells. that would sometimes trigger traps ...
... and of course, now and again falling into a pit trap where a green slime was living was kinda lethal at low level ...
Heh, we learned to tie a torch to the end of a 10' pole and burn the green slime off of the walls ...

@KorvinStarmast "you've singed what appears to have been only moss" "DON'T PLAY GAMES WITH MY HEAD!"

Q: Can I use the Cleric spell Light and a magnifying glass to light a fire?

OddrigueTheoretically, you can light a piece of paper with a heat-emitting light source and a powerful enough magnifying glass as this topic seems to explain. The cleric spell Light allows an object to shed "bright light in a 20-foot radius". My interpretation is that the object itself become a light so...

Q: How do you set up your health in D&D 3.5e?

scratchy151002I'm setting up my D&D character and I don't actually have the D&D 3.5 edition handbook. I am also new to the D&D world so I'm kind of a noob. How do you set up health for a Half-elf Sorcerer?

10:13 PM
@G.Moylan Refer to comment about my brain being full of bricks today.

@G.Moylan And of course the druid can identify plants, but then we got into a discussion of "is a moss a plant or something else" and I say "look, I am a druid, I know moss when I see it" and the DM says "beat me on a d20 roll ...
"... and by rolling an 11 to his 8, I knew it wasn't moss ..."
Ah, yes, the good old days

lol called it
I like getting people with "puddles"in dim light

(and it took about a minute to resolve, no books were opened ... )

Oops Gray Ooze. Oops Slithering Tracker.

@KorvinStarmast Depends on what kind of moss. Forest floor moss? That's a plant. Maurice Moss? Not a plant, unless you're trying to get him to spy on another company.

10:18 PM
Same DM got a fighter who stepped into a pool of acid ... and as he tried to quickly get out the DM called for a dex roll. Fail, now falls in acid and the cleric cleverly reaches in with 10' pole ...
.. and pulls him out!
But his armor was trashed

oof

Naked fighter walking about in the dungeon, next to my Magic User, bow in hand, hoping we don't get into a fight ...

that'll make you fight tactically. Or just avoid a fight at all costs
or a little of both

... so much of it "winged"... and of course no beers were involved, were there? Oh, wait, yes, beers were involved
@G.Moylan Oh, yeah, paranoia/fear and such ...

10:52 PM
Google, what are you doing? "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 0 already displayed."

@GaelL StackExchange trusts you with them! So I'd recommend just taking a look over the relevant help pages and getting a sense of when to use them. But the system does trust you to understand the site well enough to generally know when it's appropriate to vote to delete or undelete, protect or unprotect, etc. The rep thresholds assigned by SE for those privileges are pretty arbitrary.
@GaelL There definitely are! Usually I find all my questions have been asked already, and/or I feel like I don't know how to phrase my question well enough to ask it myself

Q: What light spells would generate enough light/heat to start a fire with focusing assistance?

JohnPInspired by this question on starting a fire with a magnifying glass, I was curious if there were any spells in 5e core rules (no 3rd party) that would fulfill the requirements? In other words, [spell] + magnifying glass or focusing element = fire starter. Note, I am not looking for spells or o...

Q: Moving diagonally across the corner of enemy space

EscroteitorThe PhB states You can move through a hostile creature's space only if the creature is at least two sizes larger or smaller than you. If a PC has 4 enemies surrounding him on the north, south, west and east edges, is that PC unable to move? The distribution would be something like this: O...

I've just stumbled across [action-economy] tag and I'm wondering about it... It's only on 14 questions and I'm unsure exactly how it differs from the [actions] tag; or at least, [actions] seems to be used even when [action-economy] may have been more apt (sometimes both are used)

I think the action tag is for determining when you can take an action or what counts as an action

@NautArch Not commenting on any particular question, but: Yes, if there's a general Q&A about X, and you have a specific question about Y (which is ostensibly a subset of X) but can explain why you think it would be treated differently, then usually it makes sense to have it be linked as "related" but not closed as a duplicate.

And that the action economy tag is just more specifically about the balance of how often you can take actions

@goodguy5 I do this too, albeit not intentionally
@G.Moylan @KorvinStarmast It has a revised introductory chapter talking about the two adventures/giving an overview of them. The ToD book incorporates previous errata, and marginally changes, like, two encounters without changing the encounter difficulty from deadly. (And the changes also introduce a few new "typos" - e.g. one early encounter was changed from 8 kobolds to 7, but the boxed text was left unchanged so it mentions 8 there but says 7 in the text right above it.)
@Eternallord66 Technically it comes out tomorrow. Press copies have gone out earlier, and some stores seem to be (improperly) selling the book before its release date.
@Himitsu_no_Yami You'll get no results and you'll like it!
@Medix2 Yeah, they are similar tags, though there might be distinctions between questions about specific actions and questions about e.g. how much stuff/which stuff you can do in the same turn, or things like PC action economy vs. enemy action economy when one side outnumbers the other. Might be worth opening a meta on.
