hey there @WrongOnTheInternet

hey as well @Rubiksmoose
how're things going?

You ever have one of those things that's been stuck in the back of your mind for months, and then finally deal with it?

@WrongOnTheInternet plenty of times

One of those. So Good.

@ACuriousMind -- btw, both Pixie and I have to wave off tonight's session plans (Pixie has keyboard issues, I think I have the flu :/)

2:24 AM
errg the flu
I hope you get better soon then
I just dodged getting it last week, I think

2:41 AM
Morning folks
Wait
scratch that, it's almost 10 PM for me
Well now, that shows you how my day went :P

morning then XD

3:00 AM
How's things going for everyone?

mostly good here
not 100% perfect but when is it ever

True, True
About the same on my end.
Plotting with another player to create and insurrection among an RP group (in character, not literally).
Involves killing the DM's PC and primary NPC

3:21 AM
Yesterday was pure uncut nonsense, but today is less awful than expected so far.

3:55 AM
I'm not feeling well and have to bail on my game tonight. (Boo.) But if you're playing a Fate game tonight, I hereby award you one (1) extra fate point to your refresh (Yay!). Even if you're the GM. #gamenight

4:34 AM
Vaadhoo Island in the Maldives has a huge concentration of phytoplankton which makes the night time waves glow.
It's only a murder of crows if there's probable caws

Hahaha

A friend has issued me a challenge: Fate stunts named for songs by Panic! at the Disco.
> But it's better if you do. Once per session when you compel someone to agree with your suggestion, you don't have to spend a fate point to do so.
> LA devotee. You get +2 when creating advantages representing your detailed understanding of Los Angeles.
> Let's kill tonight. Your attacks have weapon:2 when the sun is down.
> Don't threaten me with a good time. It costs 2 fate points instead of one to compel you with hedonistic temptations.

lmao

The avian homes built between the 15th and 19th century were designed with the care of birds in mind. These structures, with nicknames like “kuş köşkü” (bird pavilions) and “serçe saray” (sparrow palace), are fantastic examples of this (via @mymodernmet) https://mymodernmet.com/ottoman-architecture-birdhouse-designs/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=atlasobscura
The article doesn't talk about it, but chances are good the birdhouses were also practical: bird poop was a valuable resource and that part of the world perfected bird housing that made harvesting guano easy and lucrative.
Word up on the Hat - Project Status page update https://www.evilhat.com/home/project-status/ Sisterhood of the Red Band in first draft stage. Several fate worlds are heading into art development! Cinder Spires is ready for final layout! Woot!

9:33 AM
That is cool

10:03 AM
@Shalvenay Get well, then!

10:19 AM
Is there a place where I can read Dnd or GURPS campaigns?

What do you mean by "reading campaigns"? Do you mean world descriptions, GM notes, actual play transcripts, something else?

More like actual play transcripts, I guess

I'm not sure many of these exist, then ;) Although Critical Role does have an almost complete transcript, I think
Generally, transcribing a full session is far too much work for most people

Hello. I know some people here were following the development of Amazing Tales / Little Adventures. Well it's now available at drivethrurpg.com/product/222950/Amazing-Tales

2:02 PM
@MrLloyd Hello! Did you get my e-mail about not being able to provide feedback? (Through DTRPG, that is.)
@BESW Wow, that's awesome. And I use the word advisedly.

@Piomicron If the 'read' part isn't strictly necessary, there are videos of d&d games on youtube.

2:18 PM
@doppelgreener hehehe

3:10 PM
I am trying to find a Q&A that included a point about deities and characters not having to be the same alignment. I thought it was in an AL document, but I didn't find it this morning.
My search terms for deity and god didn't find what I was looking for. This is D&D 5e. I think we answered this within the past year

3:23 PM
For clerics or characters in general?

3:52 PM
36
Q: Can I be a follower of an evil god and not be evil?

Premier BromanovI'm playing a warlock, a follower of the old god Cthulhu (chaotic evil). My character is chaotic neutral, and has been doing some not-so-neutral things (in my opinion). My patron god is a big part of who my character is, and in the future I want to be able to use Create Undead and Death Touch. Ha...

maybe this?

I did a quick scan and didn't find any alignment restrictions for clerics in PHB at least. Given how largely non-mechanic alignment is in 5e I would be surprised if AL enforced extra rules for it

@kviiri I believe this post succinctly encapsulates all the AL alignment rules.
(whoops, wrong post--hang on a sec) okay, that's the one I was thinking of.

4:07 PM
@nitsua60 Ah yes. Those rules have a rather big impact though ;)
But now for sauna, be back after a while

@kviiri very nice =)

1 hour later…
5:21 PM
Back
Re: clerics and alignments, 5e lore is more widely supportive of the idea. Angels of all good gods are explicitly said to be Lawful Good because even Chaotic Good gods like having reliable servants.

6:06 PM
I think it makes mention in Xanathar's, or not I forget, that you can be a cleric/paladin to an idealogy. It's just rare. With that in mind you can easily be a lawful evil cleric who worships: Law.

hey there @KorvinStarmast

@nitsua60 Nits, thanks for the link, it's a good one, but there was another one
@Shalvenay Hi shal

how're things going?

Just checking in, we are doing some prep for tomorrows dinner since the rubbed meats need to sit overnnight with the rub. How you?

@KorvinStarmast would be better if not for the flu :/

Arrgh, sorry, please get well soon and get your rest.
"if you haven't got your health, you haven't got anything." (From Princess Bride, which we watched yet again on wednesday night... :)
Man, that movie really hit a sweet spot.

7:34 PM
@KorvinStarmast that I have been getting in spades, thankfully. how goes recovering from Harvey's drenching? are things back to normal where you're at?

All but the roof, and we have a meeting on wednesday for that. The Missus has me helping her redo the walls on the kitchen, changing faucets, etc....
None of that is storm related. It's her idea to change the look.

@KorvinStarmast ah.

Domestic bliss, more or less? :)

@KorvinStarmast heheh

She's blissful if I am covered in paint or sawdust. :)

7:36 PM
I never got the whole "updating kitchens/bathrooms" thing

Me neither, maybe it's the Xx chromosome?

then again, I really wish there was such a thing as timelessness in interior decor

Heh, think of all of the people put out of work if that were true. Lowe's would go under ...
My mom has been into "Danish Modern" since the 50's, and that's still her and Dad's preference. They saved a load of dough on furniture, since teak is quite durable if you oil it now and again.
Ah, off I go, best to you mi amigo

@KorvinStarmast cya

I see that red box there and am so irrationally nostalgic. But I just can't possibly justify the ~$100 that a physical copy appears to be going for these days.
@KorvinStarmast Have you read As You Wish? It's Cary Elwes' reminiscence on the making of the film, including a bunch of interview-sidebars with other prominent cast & crew. If you're the sort who still cries every time watching the film--and I am--the book's probably for you, too.

8:04 PM
@KorvinStarmast This one?

8:37 PM
@Miniman That certainly looks like a closer match.

9:08 PM
@Miniman I think I already posted that as related in comments.

Hey guys, let's say im a druid and I'm playing a giant toad. Let's say I want to jump on a humanoid enemy and sit on him, what would be your DM interpretation of that desired action and the subsequent rolls

@Skyler What game are you playing? [crosses fingers the answer is "LARP."]

5e
frogs move by jumping, so its a movement technically
HAHA

What mechanical effect do you want "I'm sitting on him" to have? (If any.)

well im picturing him under me, so he can't really move around, there are 3-4 possible conditions I saw that more or less achieve effects like that
in order of increasing severity: prone, restrained, incapacitated, stunned
i'd assume incapacitated and stuff is only if I came crashing down from a rooftop or something

9:26 PM
@Skyler prone doesn't restrict one's movement.

@Skyler As a giant toad you can do a lot of that by eating people.

Here's my mental model for it: are you looking to stop their movement? Grapple does that, so landing the jump thusly should be mechanically on-par with grappling. (One save for target.)
Are you looking to hamper their mobility so much they're more susceptible to attack? Prone does that, so it should be on-par with proning someone: either a grapple plus moving the person prone, or a trip, or the like.

@nitsua60 Yeah, I'd call that a flavorful grapple.

Are you looking to totally take them out of the fight? Incapacitated is achieved usually when a giant toad lands a grapple, sustains it until its next round, and then uses its swallow action (lands another bite attack).

I think I can't bite though after I've swallowed something

9:30 PM
@Skyler You can still make bite attacks, you just can't swallow another thing.

so I'm trying to figure how to contribute to combat after that
oh ok
that's reassuring
Now another thing is that I may or may not have an angry barbarian in tow on my back for these engagements, if I ever were interested in trying to up the ante to something that would help him to attack more easily how would you do the rolls for that

You can even make more tongue-grapples while you've got someone swallowed, IIRC.

it doesn't really say anything about tongues in the description but I'd probably just play that as a grapple with reach
Perhaps against something 2 sizes smaller you can swallow instead of grapple?

@Skyler That's right, the grapple is an add-on to the usual bite attack. I just always visualize it as the tongue doing it.

But I picture a setting where we are fighting someone too strong for me to risk swallowing, so instead I try to pin this guy to the floor so the barbarian can take a few potshots at him
or I have a rogue in tow that tranquilizes him, gives me an anti-acid, and i swallow him and run off

9:37 PM
@Skyler The successful bite might effectuate the grapple, at which point you can easily prone them.

oh ok, so grapple then turn that into a prone?
now how about the idea of crashing down on an enemy from a rooftop
dexterity check for hazard for them?
fail and they get knocked out if its high enough, i'd guess like 30ft
barring tough and resilient foes?

I don't know about that one. I've always been a bit of a killjoy and just had the attacker take fall damage as usual and make their attack roll. My mental justification being that while you might have a chance at delivering a harder blow, it comes at the difficulty of landing your attack while at high speed. Maybe a better houserule would be that a successful (maybe disadvantaged) attack would transfer some of the fall-damage dice from attacker to target?

10:43 PM
hey there @eimyr

hi

how're things going?

not too bad, you?

would be better if I wasn't fighting off the flu :/

ah bless

10:58 PM
@nitsua60 i remember when a DM did that for a barbarian at my table, we were all practically ready to boo him for that one. Especially because it's the sort of thing you only get to do once in an engagement usually

11:20 PM
have you ever had to draw an entire d&d party full of people with differing heights? then boy do i have a tool for you http://www.mrinitialman.com/OddsEnds/Sizes/compsizes.xhtml
Hey they're explaining pbta on the adventure zone pretty well.

11:30 PM
Hey guys, in 5e does draconic sorcerers doubling of proficiency bonus in charisma checks with dragons stack with skill expertise in persuasion

That sounds like a good main-site question.
...but it looks like similar questions have already been asked.
49
A: I Roll To Seduce The Dragon! (or, Do doublings of proficiency bonus stack?)

nitsua60 Do they stack? RAW, no. Occasionally, your proficiency bonus might be multiplied or divided (doubled or halved, for example) before you apply it. For example, the rogue's Expertise feature doubles the proficiency bonus for certain ability checks. If a circumstance suggests that your prof...
