If your argument is based on the querent being a liar, you shouldn't make it. There is no benefit to be gained there - not for you, not for the querent, not for the site.
And now... I commute. Tah-tah!

@T.J.L., nope, as I said initially, I don't to frame-challenge him to point out that his GM was justified in changing his alignment

@T.J.L. Commuting is for suckers...Move West (to the other end of the state!)

@godskook That being said, the question is about this player being frustrated because he feels the game is hijacked by two other players, as well as because he doesn't like the DM. That story about the ship was just context. Even if you assert that the change in alignment was justified, that doesn't really solve the issue of the querent being in a game where they aren't having fun, and trying to pull it together

@Adam

"2) How can I now bring up my frustration with the DM given that I now feel betrayed for attempting to do something while these other players had their fun at the expense of the rest of the group?"

@Adam Yeah, we probably should VTC on that question. He has two issues that he believes are one, but may not be.

You can argue the alignment stuff should be its own question, but he's definitely asking about how he should talk to his DM about him being "punished" for the boat event.

@godskook Challenging the alignment change can easily be interpreted more as "You shouldn't be frustrated, because you got what you deserved." If he feels frustrated, it doesn't help saying "you shouldn't." Let the two of them deal with it themselves. The question isn't asking whether or not he's in the wrong, it's asking how to approach the DM to talk about what a crap time he's having

@godskook But that's purely in relation to his first issue. He seems that connected and I odn't think we do. Nor is it helping support his initial issue.

@Adam, and if he approaches the DM with "you unfairly changed my alignment", that's going to be a BAD conversation, imho.
Equipping this guy to have a good conversation with his DM means having him not stuck on incorrect misconceptions that his DM has to parse while juggling emotions tied up with their group interactions.

@godskook Then advise him not to approach the DM like that. Advise him to approach it in an understanding and non-combative manner. But don't act like his DM, saying why the decision was justified on such a highly-opinionated matter like alignment. You didn't make the call. It isn't your game (I assume).
At least, that's what I suggest. You can do as you like of course.

Q: This site is too heavily moderated

SegfaultYou guys need to chill with closing questions and deleting comments. As a newcomer to the site, it's off-putting. I would like to see a change in the core moderation philosophy here. I want the rules to be enforced on posts or comments that are causing a problem, not enforced through some holy do...

sigh when will people grasp that Stacks are not fora and carry a different set of moderation expectations as a result?

@Shalvenay I get the feeling that this guy has never actually looked up what the site is supposed to do
Also, what triggers The Oracle? I've seen random meta posts from time to time, is it every meta post that gets echoed to chat?

@GreySage yeah, I suspect so as well -- he's applying what he knows from forum moderation to the Stack, which yields...bad results as the assumptions are different
@GreySage I believe it pops in any time someone posts a Meta Q, yeah

@GreySage The Oracle posts RSS feeds in the "Message Feeds" section of the chat room's feeds tab.

@Shalvenay I understand where they're coming from. As unfortunate as it is, asking people to construct well thought arguments is a pain, but it's a good pain.

@NautArch yeah -- I'm fairly thankful that I don't really have that problem with interacting with the Stack
