@lila He hadn't heard/considered it before, but he said that it did make sense.

@Sarov oh ok thanks

Quick question, I was just looking at a review queue because a post was flagges low quality. Now there already was a comment that I agreed with and had nothing to add to. So I upvoted the comment and clicked "Looks ok".
Is that the way I do it?
I do not want to tell the system yes thats fine (it is not) but there is nothing else I think fits better.
How do you guys handle those posts?

@SerenaT If the post is bad quality (I know which one you mean), feel free to downvote the post. Voting on comments has no direct effect on the post itself. If the post is very low quality and shouldn't be kept on SE, feel free to tell the review queue exactly that. I personally just like to give the user a little time to improve their post and when they don't react in time, their post might be deleted by me, another mod or the review queue.

@Elmy Yeah I also always think of giving them like a day or two to improve their answer. But thank you, then I know what to do :D

@SerenaT My personal problem is that my personal vote circumvents the review queue and the community. If I send a close vote, the post is immediately closed by one vote alone. That's why I often just leave a comment and let the post pass through the review queue.

@Elmy Oh I didn't know that, but that makes sense!

@SerenaT That was hard to get used to when I became a mod. Before that, I often searched for possible duplicates. But suddenly the questions are closed with my vote alone and I have no possibility to cast a vote as a "normal" user anymore (which would require 4 additional votes to take effect).

8:16 AM
@Elmy I understand that mods have more power but I think the queues do work rather well on their own. I think it makes sense that you have the power to shut down any question but maybe not through the queues :D But thats alright

Yes Site Moderators cant vote to close it. If they try to vote to close it, then it will automatcally close because they arent voting, but instead closing it immediately due to it being a part of their moderator toolbar.

1:24 PM
@SerenaT I'm fairly sure I saw the same one; it doesn't seem to have any real relation to the issue, so I clicked "recommend deletion," personally.

@Nai54 @Elmy i did recommend edits to questions if you want the links i can give you them.

@JosephCasey No need. The system automatically puts your recommendations into the review queue.

oh
ok
well
Im kind of mad.
not at you guys
Something else.

@JosephCasey closing is a 'vote' - just that it is one shot. Gold tag badge holders have a similar thing for duplicate closures
@Elmy You eventually get used to the closehammer

Ah
ok
Well ik that its a vote, but moderators can instantly close a question/answer just by voting and it closes instantly.

1:31 PM
I'm a mod, it's recorded as a close vote ._.

@JourneymanGeek Yes, but in the way that I try not to use it, unless a question is a reoccuring duplicate like "Is my platy pregnant?". Before becoming a mod I was much more actively searching for possible duplicates, but now it feels like dominating the site and forcing my will on it -.-

@Elmy Well - on a smaller site its tougher - you have less voters ...
(I used to be a beta mod, then I took an arrow to the knee...)

man
How long does it take to get the questions in the R queue?
Also I am very disappointed that i downvoted someone's question and provided a reason, yet still wont fix it....Now I can kind of see why people dont leave reasons.

Whenever users with enough reputation get to the queue, they get to the queue

1:40 PM
@JosephCasey Depends on how many users are online right now and click on the review button. Most reviews must be done by several users, so there's no telling when the required number of users have reviewed your changes.

I
mistyp

as for downvoting, there's no requirement to leave a reason (though it can be helpful). Votes are anonymous for a reason.

IK but it would be very awesome especially higher ups in the hundreds rep, to leave a comment.
I wouldnt care if someone with say 90 rep didn't leave a comment
but someone with 1K rep should at least leave a comment. If people are willing to give a reason for voting to close a question, least they can do is leave a reason for their downvote.

Someone with 90 rep can't downvote, iirc. Downvoting is a privilege that's earned by gaining reputation.
For closing a question, the system automatically adds a comment with the reason for the recommendation.

Oh
well.
ok.
NVM.
And no im not trying to spam edits. I am trying to fix peoples questions.
lol
i just like helping people out.
Plus editing is really a good way to boost my knowledge as well
You guys were right. I might stop answering questions for a little while and just watch.
wait
@Elmy isnt there a way for me to transfer my rep over to my other account through a bountied question?

1:49 PM
@JosephCasey ... don't do that

Im just wondering
but ok

If you have two accounts you can ask for a merger

I cant thought
though
it wont let me

@JosephCasey That's a sure way to get both accounts suspended or deleted.

2:05 PM
Good afternoon

I can finally get vaccinated!

Hi! and Awesome @SerenaT
Both shots or one?

Both
Germany only does both

nice

2:11 PM
Which is probbly why we take forever!!!!

@SerenaT any idea which one? ._.
@Nai54 one at a time :D

@JourneymanGeek not yet, but not aztra, I am too young
@JourneymanGeek Well yes :D

that's not a bad thing
We don't trust it, we did Pzfier for the first runs, we just started doing moderna as an option

2:30 PM
hi

2:40 PM
hello

2:52 PM
yes ik @Elmy but i was just wondering

@SerenaT I was trying to find a relevant Q&A on the Main Meta Stack for you because I remember having read a helpful explanation of the logic how it works, but all I found via web search and site search were some supposedly "funny and witty" stories about apples and oranges that didn't answer my question, so I gave up. In short, upvoting and writing comments doesn't count as an action in Low quality queue; clicking "Looks OK" is the inverse of clicking "Delete"/"Recommend deletion"...

Ok i edited 'Why does my cat shed a LOT' howver i forgot to capitalize something

@lila Alrighty thanks

Can someone help me out?

@JosephCasey Please don't suggest edits that don't actually improve the posts.

3:05 PM
@SerenaT ... and if a post is flagged with X low-quality or non-answer flags, then it requires X+1 "Looks OK" reviews to be removed from the queue. I could also recall that "Delete"/"Recommend deletion" somehow neutralizes "Looks OK" reviews, but maybe I'm mixing something up. In short, "Looks OK" is is my opinion unfortunate name because it suggests no action, like "No action needed" in First Posts Queue, but in reality "Looks OK" is a vote towards removing the posts from the queue.

@JosephCasey Your edit was rejected because it wasn't a good edit. You took out necessary information.

@SerenaT And if you agreed with that comment under that "answer", then in my opinion the congruent action would have been "Delete"/"Recommend deletion", not "Looks OK". Oh, and also as a tangential, if you click "Edit" and edit the answer, then it implicitly removes that answer at instant after editing.

I haven't done reviews in a bit. Wouldn't skip be the right do nothing option?
@lila sounds like shog ._.

@JourneymanGeek "Skip" is the closest to "do nothing", yes you are right!
@JourneymanGeek Wow you are so familiar with this Main Meta Stack :D and yes, but"funny and witty" answers instead of what I was searching for was the last thing I wanted to find ;_;

@lila More like Shog always did that in his answers as a CM
Its a bit like random's edit reasons...

3:39 PM
@JourneymanGeek I don't understand, could you tell me more tell me more please?

whoever closed that shivering cat queston, thank you.

@JourneymanGeek Oh OKAY... O_O
I understand, thanks for the link to this. Yikes! O_O

Wait who did close that question?

3:50 PM
Allison C, SerenaT, D. Tunus, CGCampbell, Nai54.

?
You all did?
Well i added an edit if you peeps want to check it out

5 people or 1 mod are required to close questions

@Nai54 @Elmy @SerenaT I edited that shivering cat question if you want to check it out. I made it to where they could insert the article link and added a little more clarity, if you will, to that question.
I just wish they would listen to us and edit the darn question...

Calm down. Patience. We are volunteers.

ik
m sorry
im*
Its just im eager to gain knowledge and it has kind of turned into a competition....Ill try to calm down.
@Nai54 I agree with you and ill try to chill it down.
i sound extremely stupid on the posts nai commented on.

4:02 PM
@JosephCasey I saw and rejected that edit. The problem wasn't the lack of clarity or the article link; the problem was that it was not a question at all. They answered their own question in the question--that's not a suitable post for a Q&A site. Be sure when you're editing that you aren't changing the meaning, or trying to add information that doesn't exist.

ok
Ok so i am currently working on my marshall badge and it isnt really comming along that well.

@JosephCasey the 'safe' way to go after a marshal badge is flagging spam and not that much around
that said, even as a super active user on a busy site, marshal took me years

it did?
wow
well im not giving up.

in gaming terms, badges are new game +
You need to learn to play first (post quality content) and hit personal high scores (rep!) before badges matter that much
@JosephCasey joined SU in 2009, got my marshal in 2012, pre smokey

wow
3 dern years?
that sucks mate

4:14 PM
naw
Its realistic

pets.stackexchange.com/questions/23314/… I edited the question to fix grammar and capitalization.

@JosephCasey Its a 3 year old question uhhh, not sure how useful letting OP know you edited is

Idk
I just want to edit as many questions as possible.
not to earn rep but its just fun

Well - on a smaller site, too many bumped posts can make it harder to find new ones + commenting there is noise

Ik i wont comment anymore but instead just edit

4:23 PM
Don't edit just for the sake of editing, too. Fixing capitalization and spelling errors or improving the formatting is fine, but there's no real need to change British English spellings to American English spellings, for instance.

Yes
I agree
Im mostly doing grammar and rearranging, for example i just edit flagged a question and changed "She is vomiting and will not eat or sleep" to "She is vomiting, will not eat, or sleep.
and capitalizations
I
Chuckled at that

@JosephCasey That's not actually a productive edit. "She is vomiting and will not eat or sleep" is grammatically correct.

it is?
ok

"She is vomiting" is one clause, "Will not eat or sleep" is another, joined by "and."
It's effectively two sentences. "She is vomiting. She will not eat or sleep."
When joining the two, repeating the subject ("she") isn't strictly necessary.

ok i understand. God im in highschool and freaking make that mistake.

4:31 PM
As a hint, check the conjunctions. If they're the same ("She's tired and anxious and hungry") then you can simplify them into a list ("She's tired, anxious, and hungry"). If they aren't the same ("She's tired and anxious or nervous") then you shouldn't collapse them.
No worries, even when I was in High School the teaching wasn't great and I don't have high hopes it improved since then. I had parents who enforced good spelling and grammar, and devoured books when I was younger (a habit I'm trying to pick back up again).

Yes I agree
ok now i am almost in tears, and im almost a full grown man

Q: Found newborn puppy on the street. What should I do?

undoMy friends and I found a newborn puppy and have temporarily made a shelter for him in the park. It is an old sink covered with an asbestos sheet. Till the time we manage to find a home for it, what are the preliminary steps to be taken? Age: We don't really know its age but I can give you some ...

by reading that
Man I am so happy that I am halfway to getting to 500 Rep!

Woha! Good for you!
We still have to wait.

Also i find that harsh and believe that fish stores not telling customers about the nitrogen cycle, is a big fat SCAM.
In fact they should because if they dont, then people wont buy from them period due to trust issues, however if your honest, more customers will come and buy more of your fish.
And i also thank all of you for helping me. Hopefully I will stay here for a decent time. I might sort things out with a CM about merging my accounts.
IK. i might just ask a question on there however i dont know what to ask.
Got an idea.

5:03 PM
@JosephCasey I VTCed your snake question. Please read How to ask a good question.
The way it’s written, it’s too vague, too broad, too fuzzy.

oof
welp
THat went poorly

When I see such a post, I immediately wonder: Define “sick”? How does one visually identify an “extremely sick” wild animal?

i guess im just better at editing and answering questions.
Yes i understand

And about half a dozen other thoughts along same line.

Ok why did someone star my comment XD
Im not that important.

5:07 PM
Dunno.
Let me repeat what others have said before and in different ways. Don’t do anything along the lines of posting or editing for a while. Stop trying to create content. Go to the site, start reading.
If someone wants to write a book, it’ll be a lot more likely to be successful if they have read a lot of books before starting to write.
That will help you develop an understanding of what makes an answer a good answer and a question an interesting question. And what the pitfalls are.

IK it was only one answer i swear.
Im just so eager to get to my goal.
Im sorry

You don’t have to be sorry, I am trying to help you. The alternative would be vote and move on.
I see you are young, relatively new here and eager to “do something”. Trust the old folks here.
As a second step - and I mean second, if you try to do the second before the first, you’ll like stumble - see how you can apply the insights from reading a lot to your own posts. If you strive to constantly improve yourself and your work, it can be a valuable life lesson, not just for here .

@JosephCasey May I ask what exactly your goal is? A few minutes ago it was editing a lot of posts just to get a badge (which is no more that a tiny image next to your name) or to get 500 reputation. For what? What is it you really want to achieve? A colorful blob or number next to your name is meaningless. A good answer will stay here forever and will be seen by much more people. But you need to invest the time and effort to make it really good.

5:23 PM
Yes IK
Do you want to know what my goal is?

Please @JosephCasey look at these examples of GOOD edit suggestions: pets.stackexchange.com/review/suggested-edits/13572 and pets.stackexchange.com/users/12072/aschultz?tab=activity and this example of BAD edit suggestion: pets.stackexchange.com/review/suggested-edits/21664

To earn as much rep as i can so i can help even more people in many other ways. Right now i can only access review queues, But once i get to 500, i will be able to help clean up unnessesary posts.

I mean, the good ones improve a lot of spelling and grammar errors, but if there are little to no errors, these suggestions don't even exist at the first place.

@JosephCasey but you need to be able to recognize what makes a post a good post?

5:29 PM
@JosephCasey The problem is that right now YOU ARE NOT HELPING. We've been telling you that for days and have been very patient. If you get to 500 rep and continnue doing what you do now, you STILL WON'T HELP because what you do is low quality.
2
You have so much energy and will to contribute, you could be the number 1 best user next month. But you need to dedicate all that energy to one good answer at a time, not 10 bad answers or edits in 10 minutes
2
Writing a good answer needs time and a lot of googling. Sometimes I need 2 hours for one single answer and get 3 -5 upvotes for it. By spamming out as many answers as possible in a short time, you won't get to 500 rep.

ok.
Ok.
I will do better. Thank You.

Plus, there’s a rule that says “don’t answer bad questions”.

6:17 PM
Yes i understand.

6:34 PM
@JosephCasey stop thinking about artificial goals based on numbers or images on a website. Your goal should be to better yourself, and posting and editing won't help with that.
@JosephCasey have you ever flown on a plane before?

7:04 PM
yes
I hae
I have flown on a plane multiple times and i know what your about to say
Balance is key. I should be like a plane, if anyone on a plane moves without giving the pilot the ok, then it could be thrown off balance

@AllisonC I haven't, tell me more about the plane tell me more about the plane, pretty please ^.^

@lila they're magical machines that take you place to place quickly but with a lot of extra waiting too :)

@AllisonC Seconded, I've flown on a plane before but have no idea where you were going with this.

@JosephCasey Nope, that's not what I was about to say.
When you fly, you get a safety briefing. One of the things they tell you is in case of an emergency, secure your own oxygen mask before trying to help others.

Ooh.
Okay yeah I see the analogy.

7:15 PM
@JosephCasey, you're way too worried about trying to help others right now while your own oxygen mask (quality) is just dangling in front of you. We're all telling you, deal with your own mask and stop worrying about anyone else's.

@Sarov Haha you see, you asked about the plane but you didn't ask with a pretty please, so you didn't get to know the bonus fact that planes are magical machines that take you place to place quickly but with a lot of extra waiting too :)

You're not doing what's helpful right now, in spite of feeling like you are. Please, take the advice we're giving you. Bettering yourself takes time. You can't rush it.
@lila I once took a flight between two islands where I spent more time filing through all the lines to reach the plane than actually on it!

If you put your infant's mask on and then pass out, congrats, you're dead. If you put your own on first, your infant might briefly pass out but then s/he gets the mask from you soon after and you both live.

@JosephCasey And then you remember that lesson for all other situations in your future life when there’s an impending crash (aka a very stressful situation).

@AllisonC Haha that sounds so tedious with all this waiting, maybe it was because you didn't ask them with "pretty please" to move faster with that line? :D

7:20 PM
@lila I was in a big group, I'm not sure even a "pretty please" could have helped! :D Though I did manage to skip a nice long line once at another airport, I missed the long "customs" line at the end of an international flight because I ended up in the "quarantine" line, which was super short and quick.

@AllisonC Oh, maybe you are right, but I'm sure "pretty please with sugar on top" would have done the trick, it works 100% of the time! (all along I'm kidding of course :D)

@lila I guess I should have tried! :D

@lila Will you give me your bank login? Pretty please with sugar on top. :P

@Sarov Hahahaha okay you win :D

@Sarov I just had to explain to my family why I laughed out loud during movie night!

7:28 PM
@Stephie You're welcome.
