The Area 51 statistics were supposed to be frozen at graduation, but the reps are still being updated (unlike all the other data).

Q: Area 51 reps and badge counts are still being updated for sites that graduated in 2019 or 2021

TsundokuI have just noticed that the reputation statistics and the badge counts for users of sites that graduated in 2019 or December 2021 are still being updated, even though the other data are frozen. My understanding was that the Area 51 statistics would be frozen completely, not just the site statist...

Q: How is it possible to create a definitive edition of Finnegans Wake?

Matt ThrowerIn recent news, the publisher Houyhnhnm Press released a limited edition copy of Finnegans Wake based on 30 years of work by scholars to refine and revise the text. There are apparently some 9000 differences in all, including some in the opening paragraph: 2010 edition: riverrun, past Eve and Ad...

I recently re-read The Hero of Ages (first book I ever bought from the university bookshop, back when I was here for a summer program!) and I was intrigued by the regulation colors that people wear in Urteau. I want to ask a question about it but am not sure how to phrase it.
Quite honestly, my motivation is "tell me something interesting about the meaning/significance/purpose of these colors", but that's not a question which fits into the format here. I'm open to suggestions on making a specific, narrow query

Q: Meaning of "Beneath the water of their lives" Quote by Mitch Albom

Pepe B.Recently I was reading the book "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom and I came across this quote: It is not until much later, as the skin sags and the heart weakens, that children understand; their stories, and all their accomplishments, sit atop the stories of their mothers and ...

Q: Did Hemingway write about intentional contagion during World War I?

Alessandro JacopsonI have this vague recollection about Hemingway writing, in one of his novel, about intentional contagion of infection; it seems to me there is a character, near a trench, offering a cigarette pack containing some infected substance to another character. Did Hemingway write about intentional conta...

Q: How much did Alfred the Great translate himself?

Rand al'ThorI just heard that Alfred the Great, the famous 9th-century king of Wessex who is sometimes said to be the first founder of "England" as a country, was also a translator of literature. Reading his Wikipedia page gives some mixed information: There were few "books of wisdom" written in English. Al...
