@Randal'Thor I'll be leaving SE for a while. Temporarily permanently, meaning I've scheduled all my accounts for deletion, but I'm not putting off returning to this site and others in the future.

I said that things should be better by the end of this month, and it kinda is, but not enough. It's been great participating in this site, I hope it continues to flourish :)

Q: What is the symbolism of the sun in this Bengali short story "The House of Wax"?

Rand al'Thor"The House of Wax" is a short story by Subodh Ghosh, translated from Bengali to English by Somrita Ganguly. It's about a man and woman who meet at a train station years after getting divorced from each other and both re-marrying. A few paragraphs of the story cover their memories of some of the b...

@Brahadeesh Oh no! :'( You've been greatly appreciated at this site, starting from your helpful answers on (making it one of our most successful topic challenges in terms of answers) and continuing to become one of the top voters of all time (really important for a site that's generally low on voting), as well as your constant cheerfulness in chat. You'll be missed for sure.
Good luck with your RL stuff, and hope to see you around again in future!

@Brahadeesh Another man who knew how to differentiate between good and bad and knew what it is to be polite is going away. It’s frustrating
Can someone in US ever fail as a lawyer if he studies law from a recognised university and come to practice?
(Fail means the way a writer gets failed when his novels/books don’t get sold, or an actor doesn’t get any movie)
Coz lawyers cannot have a monopoly, a single established lawyer cannot wash away new comers (coz it’s not the product that they are selling).

Q: Do you think "calendula paddle" is used in the literal sense here?

DenizIt's from "The Liar's Key" by Mark Lawrence. A banker is informing Jalan about the stock exchange process. I think it's used literally but it sounds too weird. ‘Stakes are purchased using the calendula paddle to attract the seller’s attention,’ Marco continued as if I hadn’t so much as twitched ...

@Bookworm OP is asking if “calendula paddle” is used in literal sense there, but what is its literal sense?

@Knight I Googled "calendula paddle" and found that the calendula is a plant with paddle-shaped leaves. Probably the "literal sense" means just a leaf of the calendula plant.

@Randal'Thor I myself use Calendula Plus ointment, so I got a little confused about that paddle thing

Q: What was the ethnicity of Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights?

schizoid_manThough he was brought home by Mr. Earnshaw following a journey to Liverpool, there is no definitive answer to his ethnicity. Liverpool by 1740 had surpassed Bristol and London as the slave-trading capital of Britain. Did Emily Brontё envisage him to a black man by mentioning Liverpool? Nelly once...
