@Tsundoku A couple of comments about your comment. First, English is the language that most of us have in common, so books not available in English are probably not very suitable for topic challenges. Second, 19th century (or earlier) women authors are less likely to be translated into English than 19th century (or earlier) male authors, so there are fewer women authors to choose from.
@Tsundoku: and finally, when we choose Jhumpa Lahiri as our topic challenge, will she count as an English or an Italian author?
