Q: What does, "Some people do the same by their religion," mean?

Yosef ZaghiIt says in Great Expectations Mrs. Joe was a very clean housekeeper, but had an exquisite art of making her cleanliness more uncomfortable and unacceptable than dirt itself. Cleanliness is next to Godliness, and some people do the same by their religion. What does this mean/imply?

@bobble Er, I don't remember that at all (2017 feels like a lifetime ago for me, both in SE terms and IRL terms), but that suggestion of mine seems silly IMCO. My suggestion now would probably be to edit out the extra parts of the question and let them be posted as a new question instead.
That's even though the two strands of the question do fit together reasonably well - if the OP had included them both originally, I wouldn't say it's too broad - but adding the second part turns an existing answer into a partial answer. If the answerer had posed the extra question and answered it within the same post, then I'd say the edit to the question was fine.

@Randal'Thor since the OP isn't around any more, should someone else post the new Q for them?

2:11 PM
@bobble Feel free.
I've just edited the old Q with a note in the edit description.

I'm not sure I care enough about the newer question to ask it

2:27 PM
@bobble in most cases it's fine to let the newer question arise organically

By the way, Mithical is one of the candidates in the Constructed Languages SE mod election.

Spagirl has been storming up the list with a bunch of recent Revival badges, but Gareth Rees still holds an unassailable lead overall.

@Randal'Thor That's not a bookshelf. That's a shookbelf.

An involved question about a book I doubt anyone else on the site has read! literature.stackexchange.com/questions/19646/…
I wanted to sneak in but decided that was more important

Q: Is there anything deeper about the comparisons between Queenie and the Red Queen in "Code Name Verity"?

bobbleThere's a sequence in Code Name Verity where one of the main characters, called "Queenie" here, is compared to the Red Queen. The time period is WWII. A future version of Queenie is the one "writing", though through Maddie's viewpoint. Queenie and Maddie have recently become acquainted. The air b...
