Q: Why is "The Crying of Lot 49" considered metafiction?

Firas ZguirWhy is Thomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49 considered metafiction? I've read some articles about historiographic metafiction in The Crying of Lot 49, but still can't understand it.

@Tsundoku There was a deleted answer to the Yeats question which basically said, "don't try to understand the poem, just sit back and enjoy whatever comes into your head when reading it", and after doing the research to understand what Yeats was trying to say, only to discover that it is a load of nonsense that his wife made up in a series of séances, I now concur with the author of the deleted answer — it was not worth the effort!
