I just left a comment on this question suggesting it might be a better fit at academia stack exchange, but then I realized I don't really have a good sense for what kinds of questions they encourage there. I'm also not totally clear on what our own policies are regarding a question like this. Does anybody know more about this than I do?

Do keep in mind that career or personal advice from strangers on the internet should always at the very least be supplemented by advice from people you know who have a better understanding of your particular situation. You should discuss this sort of thing with an advisor / mentor / professor / more senior student / other trusted and more experienced person at your institution or elsewhere. — Tim Campion ♦3 mins ago

As s side note, this seems like something which would be a bit more suitable in the main chatroom rather than the editors' lounge - since it is not really related to tagging and editing.
But it's not really that important. (Neither of the two rooms is very active.)
I did end up asking in their chat as Martin suggested, and I got a pretty quick reply explaining that indeed the question would probably be a bit too specific to personal details to be suitable for their site.
@MartinSleziak Thanks! In general, I value your expertise in these things a great deal and I would not object at all if you were to go ahead and make edits to posts more frequently along the lines of your ever-helpful comments. I think you have enough rep to edit other users' posts?
