@ArunDebray Well, you did nothing wrong, the only thing is that many users do not even know that there is a place where to vote for synonyms.
So posting on meta make more users notice that there is synonym suggestion.
Moreover, only users with score at least 5 in the master tag can vote - which is a limited pool. It's possible that if the suggestion receives enough upvotes on meta, one of the mods approves the synonym. (For voting on meta there is no such restriction.)
Thanks for letting me know about the text. In that case it is good that I have also included link to the Google Books. (Also it shows some improvements regarding what is accessible from our university.)
The OP writes that: " I am more interested in the process. How does a researcher go about locating such things?" So the actual request is not the main point of that post.
OTOH having some suggestion how to look for papers in general is useful and having the tag there might make find this specific post easier. (In case somebody posts a paper request and some other user would like to link to the post about general tips for finding paper - than the possibility of finding this post quickly is an advantage.
As a side note, I have posted a question on meta related to the reason why that post was actually bumped - I was considering making a post about it, but as I saw that there is already some action taken on such posts, it prompted me to post it now. (I will see, maybe I'll also use the email for the mod team for the first time - to add a bit more information which I did not want to include on meta.)
In any case, I am pretty sure the mods will notice the new meta question in the moderator inbox.
