I am not sure what the reasons are. But I think that it's probably ok, that users care more about tags on main that on meta.

Still, having questions reasonably tagged on meta might be helpful when searching for older questions. (And IIRC the tags also influence the list of related questions in the sidebar.)

Sure, the volume on meta is minimal; it's not that strenuous for a handful of users to take care of the tagging there.

However, to make a retag on meta you need at least 2K reputation points. So I should probably try to work towards that.

Compared to math.SE, volume on the main site here is not that big either. The stats say 35 question per week (two weeks average).

The actual number might be a big higher - due to off-topic questions, which take some time to get closed and deleted.

Of course, the above was a typo. I meant to say 35 questions per day. (Two weeks average.)

I'm sorry to waste your time, but I was having trouble locating a reference for the syntax required to enter equations in my questions. I do appreciate your patience.

I will also add that MathOverflow is for research-level question. And typically people doing research in mathematics already know TeX-syntax well enough.

So before posting here you might have a look what is on topic on MathOverflow and consider whether some of other sites mentioned there (which also admit not-research-level question) would be a better choice.

Thanks for the reply and the condescension. Maybe this is a design issue? Or maybe just that I don't use the site often enough. Hold your crude assumptions and I will do the same.

@JustKevin I was definitely not intending to be condescending. I simply wanted to make you aware that there is also another site for questions about mathematices in SE network. And if the question is noty really research level, it might be more suitable for another site.

Of course, you can also try MO íor another site0 and simply see how the question will be received.

But I was definitely not the first person to make the observation that usually people who ask MO-level question are familiar with LaTeX. See the beginning of the post I linked above: "One could make the argument that someone unfamiliar with LaTeX probably won't have the requisite background to contribute meaningfully in this site. Granted, there are some peculiarities with MathJax."

So what was intended to be a helpful and friendly advice clearly went across as condescending. For that I apologize.

I am definitely not in the position to be condescending about people who want to post on this site, since my knowledge of mathematics is well below the level of average MO user.
