Q: Is there a simple proof of the following Identity for $\sum_{k=m-1}^l(-1)^{k+m}\frac{k+2}{k+1}{\binom l k}\binom{k+1}m$?

Brendan GuilfoyleWhile studying the behaviour of umbilic points on Weingarten surfaces I discovered that the following combinatorial identity must be true. For all $l,m\in{\mathbb N}$ with $l\geq m-1\geq0$ the following holds: $ \sum_{k=m-1}^l(-1)^{k+m}\frac{k+2}{k+1}{l \choose k}{k+1 \choose m}= \left\{\begin{...

@MartinSleziak I have removed from three questions (here, here and here). So far nobody complained about this. (Although one of the suggested edits got one reject vote - but it still got approved.)

Just being curious - how many followers do you see for tag?
@MattF. If you hover over the tag, you can see that (reference-request) has 113 followers. (This means people who favorited the tag plus people with e-mail subscription.) I do not know whether there is some way to find number of users who ignored the tag. — Martin Sleziak 7 hours ago
@MartinSleziak, I don't think the software allows negative filters. Anyway, I see only 92 followers when I hover over this tag, which is low but is more than for the polynomials tag. So I agree it has positive utility to someone, even if its appearances have negative utility for me. — Matt F. 2 hours ago
@MattF. It is possible to use ignored tags (which is kind of opposite to favorite tags). It is also possible to exclude some specific tag (or tags) from search - see advanced search tips. I guess one of these two possibilities is what you meant by negative filters. And here is a screenshot showing 113 followers for reference request - it is strange that different users see different numbers. — Martin Sleziak 5 mins ago
