9:36 AM
@JohnRennie hi

@JackRod Hi :-)

hi sir I got internship

BOOM! :-)
Where are you interning?
Wow! Cool :-)
What will you be doing?

software devlopement
and data management

Do you know what projects you will be working on and which languages you will be using?

9:39 AM
1 message moved to Trash
not yet
next week we have a orientation program so we will be briefed by them

That's a cool internship though!

I guess, can u guide me something related to that I have no background in working like that?

I will help if I can, but it may well be you'll be working in an area where I have no experience.

I am nervous! damn nervous!

That's normal :-)
It will be great experience though.

9:43 AM
sir have u heard about paid browsing software in America?( new start up)

And remember that the guys running the internship will know that the interns are inexperienced and they won't expect you to code like pros from the start.
@JackRod No ... ?

yes

I suspect people won't pay for it. The thing is that for most people Google Search works fine and the ads are not too bad - and it's free!
So there is no incentive for people to pay to get rid of the ads.

9:49 AM
u are right some where now these tech giants are facing heat from all around the world
maybe in the future we will see a paid google!

Yes, there's been a lot in the news about Google, Amazon, Apple etc facing court cases.
And I guess that's good as it keeps those companies in line.
But I suspect that at the end of the day things won't change very much.

what about global minimum tax?
somewhere Europe and UK is getting harsh on these companies

Maybe it will happen, but I doubt it because there is a big incentive for a country to charge Google and Amazon low rates of tax.

one question that always ping me is why Europe failed to produce tech giant like google

If Google says to a small country "charge us a low tax rate and we'll build a big office with lots of jobs paying lots of wages" then that's a really good reason for the small country to agree.
That's pretty much what Ireland did with Amazon.

9:54 AM
or amazon

I don't know ...

may be because of strict data rules?

Possibly yes
Europe tends to place tighter restrictions on companies than America does.
It sometimes feels like companies in America can do whatever they want.

sir then what about cyber protection

It isn't an area I know a lot about ...

9:57 AM
ok..
one more thing does internship can lead me to final placement

If you are interested in working at Amazon then doing an internship there is a good thing because it means they get to know you.
I don't think an internship guarantees a placement, but it certainly helps.

ok..

One of the problems companies have is when they employ someone it's hard for them to know exactly how good that person is.
They might spend a lot of money recruiting and training someone only to find they aren't that good.

sir are u free today for some more 30 min I have many questions to ask?

But if you've done an internship there they will have spent time with you and they'll know how good you are.
Yes, I'm mainly just chilling at the moment so I'm happy to chat for as long as you want.

10:01 AM
my coffee is almost ready so i can just have it in my mug, can i have small break of 5 min for this?

Yes. I'll make a coffee as well :-)

hi sir

Hi :-)

ok sir currently i would be working wfh
type

I guess due to covid?

10:12 AM
yes

That probably applies to all internships at the moment.
It's a shame, but that's the way it is :-(

does that affect anything in experience

Inevitably it does have some effect, because usually part of an internship is the experience of meeting people and working together in teams. It's harder to get to know people online. But I guess they will be using Zoom so you will be able to talk to people.

yes so!

Most projects in big companies like Amazon are too big for one person to do, so their programmers have to be able to work effectively as a team to complete the project.
And learning to do that is a key part of the training for new programmers.
But apps like Zoom are pretty good. Or I think Amazon has its own teleconferencing software so you'll be using that rather than Zoom.
I think they call it "Chime".
It will be something you will have to get used to, but that should be no problem.

10:19 AM
yes

Have you used Zoom (or similar) for college?

we are using it for last 2 year
lol!

So you are already used to that sort of meeting. It should be no problem for you when you have to use it for the internship.

ok
sir did u had job interview when u applied for the same?

I have never done an internship. In England in the 1980s when I was a student internships didn't exist.

10:24 AM
for final placement?

When I left university I did lots of interviews to get a job, yes.
I have also been an interviewer i.e. I have interviewed candidates for jobs.
2

wow!
can u share ur experience as an interviewer did u remember any interview that u have interviewed?

Interviews always seem scary, but the thing to understand is that both the interviewer and the interviewee really want the same thing i.e. they want to find out if the candidate would be a good fit for the job.
The company want to find someone who will be good at the job.
But at the same time you want to find a job that will be good for you. That mainly means a job that you can do well and that you will enjoy doing.
So I would say the main thing in an interview is to just be honest and straightforward. There is no point in getting offered a job if either you won't be good at it or you're going to hate it.
So there is an extent to which you are interviewing the company at the same time as they are interviewing you.
Does that make sense?

yes

Remember that the guys doing the interview are probably nice, friendly people - most people are. The fact they are interviewing you doesn't make them monsters :-)
My experience of being an interviewer is that you want the candidate to do as well as they can. So you want them to be relaxed and able to talk freely.

10:36 AM
ok

But you've done the interviews already for the Amazon internship, so you have some experience of what the interviews are like?

yes

And presumably it will be a while before you will be interviewing for your job after college. How long to you have left at college?

1 years

Wow, you are about to start your final year?

10:41 AM
no, i will be in 2023
be passed out in 23

Ah, OK, then you don't have to worry about interviewing for a job for a while yet :-)

yes just curious
thanks sir It is pleasure to have some one like u who is always kind to help me :)

The experience of doing the internship will be very valuable i.e. when you come to the interviews two years from now you will have had experience of doing interviews and working at companies.
@JackRod I'm always happy to help. I see it as good karma :-)

karma!!!!!

:-)

10:47 AM
have u heard about kotilya?

No, I'll have a quick Google ...
This guy:
Chanakya (IAST: Cāṇakya, pronunciation ) was an ancient Indian teacher, philosopher, economist, jurist and royal advisor. He is traditionally identified as Kauṭilya or Vishnugupta, who authored the ancient Indian political treatise, the Arthashastra, a text dated to roughly between the 4th century BCE and the 3rd century CE. As such, he is considered the pioneer of the field of political science and economics in India, and his work is thought of as an important precursor to classical economics. His works were lost near the end of the Gupta Empire in the 6th century CE and not rediscovered until...

no one can beat this guy
a man who beat alexander
with his brain
a real world fanatsy story

:-)

I have book if u would like to read

Kotilya's book? The one mentioned in the Wikipedia article?
The Arthashastra?

10:53 AM
yes

I would be interested to see it. Presumably I can easily download an English translation.

there is a english book

I've just downloaded a copy.
