@MartinSleziak Thanks a lot! So since these solutions have not been implemented yet, what is your suggestion how to deal with retagging on MSE when a new tag has been created? Doing it in small batches? Don't retag at all, only apply it to new questions? Announce the retagging on meta? Etc. — Martin Brandenburg13 mins ago
New year, new tag management thread.

Thanks for posting here before unilaterally creating a new tag. I'm unfamiliar with the subject area and don't have a strong opinion one way or the other about its creation. Here are some topics that often come up when doing tag management (see this Meta Math SE post for examples).
What is the ...
@JanOlavR I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with you. Comments are for improving questions and it seems like your question would be better answerable by the community if you provided a modicum of concrete data, like the number of questions you're proposing to tag and explaining why the existing tags/search options aren't good enough. You are free to ignore everything I write. — postmortes32 secs ago
One should keep in mind that there are only five slots for tags. If we created too many tags for very specialized topics, there will be questions where more than 5 of the existing tags are suitable. I will add that I did not find older occurrences of a tag for Kleinian groups - I posted the SEDE queries in the tagging chatroom — Martin Sleziak26 secs ago
I guess it is self-evident - but I will still point out that this is not a right place to discuss tags on MathOverflow; they have their own meta. (So we should stick with Mathematics.) @postmortes How exactly did you get 64 questions. I only get 33 results. Perhaps you searched for bothquestions and answers? — Martin Sleziak43 secs ago
@postmortes That is a fair point. But there are existing tags with less hit on searches, like ackermann numbers (on overflow) and acyklic orientations. Do you disagree with me that it is a well-established mathematical subject? — Jan Olav R27 mins ago
A quick search suggests that there are 64 questions about Kleinian groups on math.stackexchange and 135 on mathoverflow. These all seem to be tagged with some combination of hyperbolic-geometry and geometric-topology though other tags appear as well. On a site with actually hundreds of thousands of questions, are these numbers enough to warrant a special tag? — postmortes2 hours ago
I am a bit unsure if this should be posted here or in Mathematics, but I try it here.
I was surprised to see that there was no "Kleinian groups"-tag at Mathematics and Mathoverflow. I would like to know why. Is it because it has been considered but turned down, or has it never been considered?

@XanderHenderson I edited the tag but I have a suggestion to replace the name of monotonic-functions by monotonicity if possible ,what do you think ? — pieyesterday
@XanderHenderson one suggestion is Questions about proving or finding the conditions for a function to be increasing, decreasing, or monotonic. This tag may also include questions about applications or consequences of monotonicity, such as convergence, optimization, or inequalities. — pieyesterday
As per Robert Harvey's suggestion here, lets have a review queue for tag synonyms. It should be filtered so that users will only be shown what they can vote on. This should help all those languishing tag synonyms.
My current suggestion is that the (1) usage should be renamed to something else, or if we can't come up with something better then merged with infinitesimals. (2) is probably fine to be synonymized to derivatives and (3) should be retagged.
@XanderHenderson Since the suggestion is to blacklist a tag, maybe it would be useful to hear from the mods. Since I see that you're around, I tried to ping you - at least to check what you thik about this.
As I posted in the retagging question, I want to improve the state of the differential tag and the suggestion seems to be positively received. Is this a good place to discuss what exactly should be done and how to go about it?
Suggestion: Burninate and blacklist differential.
I'd like us as a community to evaluate the tag differential. The tag wiki suggests that differential should be used in somewhat of a differential geometric setting, however much more than half the time it seems like it is used specifically fo...
> Suggestion for Tag excerpt is: Everything involving fractional calculus (FC) differential equations: in practical application of FC differential equations; in pure mathematics; numerical methods for the resolution of FDE; dynamical systems; fractional partial differential equations; FDE of distributed order; boundary value problems for FDE; techniques for studying FDE; in a variety of subjects ranging from mathematical physics to probability theory.
If creation of this tag is considered, do you have a suggestion what the tag-excerpt and the tag-wiki should look like. (If you do have some suggestion, you could include it in your answer - or at least edit them after the tag is created.) BTW here is a link to a few related comment in the tagging chatroom. — Martin Sleziak3 mins ago

@PeterPhipps As far as I can tell, the OP suggested the synonym already on December 2 - about two months before this post. It seems that in the meantime, the suggestion was downvoted to $-2$ and removed. (But it was there today - and it is still shown in SEDE.) — Martin Sleziak56 secs ago

An article on hash functions has this suggestion for making a good hashing function:
Multiplication Method (Cormen). Choose m to be a power of 2. Let A be some random-looking real number. Knuth suggests M = 0.5*(sqrt(5) - 1).
I'm a big fan of Professor Knuth (who isn't, of course), so I was cur...
Gold tag badge holders have the power to unilaterally close a question on that tag as a duplicate. My suggestion is the bronze and silver tag badges should have extra power too. I'm thinking that a duplicate close vote by a bronze tag badge holder should count as 2 votes, and a duplicate close vo...
I would like to make a suggestion for the Tag main page, were currently they could be found the filters by:
Popular: tags get orders by the amount of questions each tag have
Name: tags in alphabetical order
New: tags ordered due their creation date

I disagree with Willie's answer. I found this post because I was going to make the same suggestion. We do get questions of the form "It says 'X' in this book, but that seems wrong and I think it should be 'Y'", and sometimes that turns out to be right -- here's one that I just answered Distinguis...

B. To suggest the new tag on meta first - and see what response the suggestion gets. (My impression is that not many people are familiar with this topic - so I am not sure whether it could get much feedback on meta. Of course, I might be wrong.)
@MichaelAlbanese They would certainly fall under the intended topic of this room. (For example, there were some such suggestions in this room or in MO editors' lounge.)
This looks like it should be a reasonably uncontroversial suggestion. Unless there is an objection, I will make the change next week. Do you have proposed tag wiki changes? Could you add that to your response here? — Xander Henderson ♦Feb 23 at 20:58

In this years Tag management thread, I've suggested the creation of the tags hochschild-cohomology and a-infinity-algebras. Let's say for the sake of argument that this suggestion is well received and not contested and that I go ahead and create them.

I recently suggested that the kaehler-manifolds tag is a synonym of the kahler-manifolds tag. Was this the right thing to do for these specific tags, and if so, should I mention the suggestion in this thread?
