I just wish this site, and this site's meta could strive to be more credible that Facebook-like "likes and dislikes". But I guess social media has trained too many of users to vote based on emotions and reflex, and not reasoning and deliberation.
Jul 2, 2020 19:42
@AloizioMacedo I look forward to reading it. Thanks for letting us know!
Jul 2, 2020 19:31
Also, the other user you saw fit to suspend, @quid, wasn't even 25% as abusive as the OP from the meta question and related main post. So I just don't get why some abusive users get a pass, time and again.

@amWhy I'm not going to try to read the minds of the moderators, but I wish that they would take a much more active role in that meta thread.
Jul 2, 2020 18:59
It would be nice to see an answer from the mod team, for example.
Jul 2, 2020 12:58
"looking like homework" and "being a research level question" are not mutually exclusive or contradictory.
Jul 1, 2020 20:31
Calum is still up and running, and that's a travesty, given the way he treated half a dozen users yesterday.
Jul 1, 2020 18:41
@amWhy that's not always bad.
Jul 1, 2020 03:47
@Arjun true that. @amWhy and @quid would make a great team!
Jun 30, 2020 18:13
@quid ,this isn't something new, you have been working together since (I don't really know ;-). Nice work amwhy and quid, we need more users like you two
Jun 29, 2020 20:54
@amWhy I'm honestly rather disappointed at the lack of discussion and feedback the question got. Personally, I think it is quite obvious that there is an issue with the close reasons (there are certain cases which just aren't covered at all, and some seeming redundancies which appear to cause confusion). But I guess there aren't many who agree with me...

Students never asked him for a multiple choice exam again.
Jun 29, 2020 16:44
@sai-kartik Okay, deal. But If I see you around after 2hrs, I'll scold you!! :P
Jun 29, 2020 16:43
@sai-kartik I understand. But especially when under pressure, you need to have days to decompress... to chill, because that helps you perform best when you are under pressure.
Jun 29, 2020 16:35
@sai-kartik don't forget the gals!
Jun 29, 2020 15:40
@amWhy I'll keep it a secret. ;-)
Jun 29, 2020 01:23
This honestly made me want to delete it more.
Jun 29, 2020 01:23
Such polemic comments are incredibly off-putting. :\
Jun 28, 2020 19:53
@quid Ah, I see. Anyways, thank you for your attention to this matter. This was helpful.
Jun 28, 2020 19:47
The question was recently edited to roll back most of an edit from over five years ago, on the grounds that it was "quite harmful". I don't want to get into an edit war, but I don't see what was harmful about that old edit. In fact, I think it was a helpful addition of context to indicate how Hilbert's basis theorem might be relevant to a question like this, and to explain why one simple approach to applying it doesn't work in this case. — Jeremy Rickard Jun 21 at 21:52

I think that providing such a comment is a little bit reassuring. If you (generally speaking) go around thinking you're stupid for asking questions, then that's definitely a problem. No one is born fully knowledgeable; asking questions is one of the ways to increase your knowledge
Jun 28, 2020 19:21
@quid Perhaps "complaining" is not the right word, but you have most frequently reported on status updates how busy, tired, overworked you are. You've yet to answer, to my question: "how is your day going": anything better than not that great, not that bad. It's okay @quid. I vent a lot here too. But when you seem always so pressed for time, or rest, or relaxation, it seems to send a message "don't bother me right now."
Jun 28, 2020 16:15
@amWhy Much more clear than the other commenter, in any event.
Jun 28, 2020 16:04
Better yet would be "I would if I could understand..." (i.e., flipping your use of would and could in the meta comment, @quid).
Jun 27, 2020 17:25
@amWhy , ready to take on some higher level books now. And most of the authors tend to hide a little bit of their charecter in the book they write
Jun 27, 2020 17:22
@Arjun It is rather tragic. So be prepared. I just know you've enjoyed some Hermann Hesse novels. This was one of his first, if not, the first published work of his, and I think he expresses mixed feelings about overemphasizing academics over personal development. I suspect, as in most of his novels, the main character reflects bits about himself (the author).
Jun 27, 2020 13:23
@quid And if you ever get frustrated with a user over-editing their post, or persisting in comments, you, and you alone, can write: "Just quid it, already!"
Jun 27, 2020 12:56
Funny thing I've noted. Very often, when intending to write "request", my fingers take over, out of habit, and I end up writing "requestion"! :-)
Jun 26, 2020 17:19
I'm glad the two of you are bonding. But lets try to be more inclusive in this chat room? It is public, afterall.

Ah, alright, I realize I am being too obnoxious here by posting the electronic music I like :-) sorry, I'll try to control myself. Most probably I'll take the discussion somewhere else to another chatroom of MusicFans.SE, like Off The Record. See ya.

Feel Good by Griffin and Illenium ft. Daya. The second artist there (Illenium) is way too awesome. Go check out his songs (though don't listen to the new ones, they're bad :P The old ones like Fractures, Afterlife, Rush Over Me, Don't Let Me Down(Remix) are extremely awesome).

@FakeMod It was close even in the electoral votes. If the people who voted for useless third party candidates, which is a very small number of people, had voted for Hillary Clinton, she would've won.
Jun 24, 2020 18:17
@FakeMod The democrats have a small majority in the US (there are more democrats than republicans) but the election is not by popular vote. If it were, Trump would not have been elected. Instead, the vote proceeds state by state, and based on the election result within the state each state submits their electoral votes. Trump got the most electoral votes.

@Qwid Their claims can't be taken seriously until the medicine is tested under standardized conditions through clinical trials and results are statistically analyzed.
Jun 24, 2020 17:32
@Qwid Hope is fine, but this man appears to be a charlatan, attempting to profit off of the fears of others.
Jun 24, 2020 17:27
@Qwid I am quite dubious. Do you have a link to the peer reviewed research?

There is a place called India in the United States
Jun 23, 2020 19:34
@MattSamuel , u win this round
Jun 23, 2020 19:28
@XanderHenderson someone's really keen to change course of the survey xD
Jun 23, 2020 19:28
@Qwid You misspelled Indiana again. There is no place called India in the US, and, as an American, I can tell you quite confidently that there is nowhere outside of the US. :P
Jun 23, 2020 19:24
@Qwid Well okay, but I will choose to discontinue, depending on the nature of the survey... :-)

@sai-kartik I think Stephen Hawking was an exemplar of both brilliance and inspiration, along with the capacity to be very humble.
